It might help if people know where abouts in the country you are ?
Installing Vista is quite easy. You just follow the on screen prompts till the end. If you bought the computer here did you get any discs with it ? They sometimes include a recovery disc that returns the computer to how it came when you bought it. Others have a partition on the hard drive that does the same. If you have internet access then getting the missing drivers should not be a problem. Good luck.
OK. I'm in Bangkok in SV City Condo on Rama III Road.
No disks from HP.
No sound driver for XP, which is why I need to go back to Vista.

Did it come installed with Vista SP2? Is it just a matter of running a Factory Restore?
It is very simple for you to do it yourself.
It came with Vista installed, but after the OS totally failed to start up, I reformated C and installed Windows XP (a total disaster since the sound driver available does not work with XP, and the bluetooth mouse is not found).

I need to reformat the C drive and install Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 on my HP computer. I need someone to come to my place and do this for me. Please PM me nd I'll give you the details if you're interested.

Funny, you already got the far best antivirus, do you know the importance of these updates ?
You can adjust some of the settings in the UI, but this should not be e reason to uninstall it !
Life is full annoyances, be happy your PC is well protected.
I agree that avast is the best out there. And, I really don't find it at all intrusive. I also like how easy it is to disable the program for 10 minutes when I'm copying a file that I know isn't a virus.

The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint 340A http://www.fujixerox.co.th/en/product/3-Office-Printer/9-Black-and-White-Printer/158-DocuPrint-340A would be a good choice. It has a three-year on-site standard warranty which is nice. If this is a little too much printer for you, a cheaper DocuPrint model can be found at Fuji Xerox printer shops.

The best solution, in my mind, is to get the portable version of Incredimail, put it on a thumb drive, and use it on any computer. All your email is downloaded in one place... on your thumb drive. PM me for the link to where you can get it.

OK. Let's start a poll. Who's using 3G in Bangkok on their computer. What SIM are you using? What modem are you using? What speeds are you getting? Are you on a prepaid package? How happy are you with the service?

if you are using gmail try this setting ... its designed to fix exactly the problem you have
If you're accessing Gmail on multiple clients through POP, Gmail's 'recent mode' makes sure that all messages are made available to each client, rather than only to the first client to access new mail.
Recent mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.
Setting up 'recent mode'
In your POP client settings, replace '[email protected]' in the 'Username' or 'Email' field with 'recent:[email protected]'
Once you enable recent mode, please be sure to configure your POP client to leave messages on the server according to the instructions below:
- Outlook or Outlook Express: on the Advanced tab, check the box next to 'Leave a copy of messages on the server.'
- Apple Mail: on the Advanced tab, remove the check next to 'Remove copy from server after retrieving a message.'
- Thunderbird: on the Server Settings tab, check the box next to 'Leave messages on server.'
Cool. Thanks for this. Works with Spicebird.

Thanks all for the information, and excuse me again for my lack of knowledge in this area.

Hi. Here's the question. And, excuse me for being a little behind the technological curve. With a wi-fi capable phone, is it possible to connect to a free True wi-fi hotspot with just any SIM card? Or, do I need a True SIM card. Just how easy is it, and is it basically an automatic connection? What is the advertised speed at these hotspots? Thanks for understanding my deficient knowledge in this area.

I was definitely under the impression that the myth - that port forwarding "correctly" tuned to work with your torrent download platform was the ultimate solution - had been debunked various times. It just does not work.
I genuinely believe that those not on Premium style packages that do momentarily get high range download speeds are not the architects of this. I think this is the ISP not handling/analysing the data correctly for periods of the day and you seeing increased speeds as a result until they rectify the situation.
If you those are you that are lost can get your head around the file-hosting/downloader idea (which is not hard to understand given that you're happy to fiddle with the port settings on your torrent platform) and the small noimal fee you have to pay, I genuinely believe your file downloading experience will be much more happy and relaxed in Thailand. Not only that you'll get your files in a much more timely manner.
Something tells me that I'm shouting into the wind though here.
Going the file-hosting/downloader route is definitely the way to go. Always brazenly fast downloads.

Not exactly clear as to what you're trying to do. Is your work email a Gmail account also? And, why do you need to go to Gmail on the web to check your email. You know you can have multiple accounts on Thunderbird, don't you? Anyway, my advice is to use a portable Thunderbird and use it on any computer. Here's the link to check it out:

Apparently the news is that Thailand may be getting 3G, real 3G everywhere, soon. It has been delayed for years but the word is 3G licenses will be up for sale in the coming months for 4-8 billion baht. Expect DTAC and AIS to jump all over it quick.
I think it'll be in the 2100mhz spectrum.
Governments have been issuing '3G by the end of the year' announcements since at least 2004. Even within Abhsit's term its been accelerated, decelerated, put on hold and 'fast tracked'. The only development in the last six years is the recent passage of some enabling legislation.
I hope I'm wrong, but my best guess is 3G seriously starting to happen in 2012, and there is a fair chance they'll eventually scrap it and start talking about setting up 4G instead. I think there's actually been some press releases about '3.9G' recently, whatever that is. Grrr!!!!
Yes I am cranky :-)
No, just a realist. I wish that they'd ban using the future tense in Thailand. There's too much talk about what's coming and not enough real action.

I've been using 3G in Bangkok for about 5 months. It started out quite fast and reliable, but as things usually go here, has degraded to a crawl at best until about 5:00 AM in the morning. I don't see this improving with more players and customers.
That's because they are advertising it as 3G but it is not real 3G. It is what they call 3G, but it's over the 2G frequency. Thailand still doesn't have 3G.
Once they actually get the licenses, you will get a 3G signal from a tower for 3G in the 2100mhz spectrum (right now you are getting it over the 850mhz, which is what they use for everything else), which is real HSDPA. RIght now, all they have is slightly faster 2G (sometimes) and they are selling it to you as 3G.
I've been on 3G for a year now and usually get 2500 to 3000kbps - streams You Tube and a 700MB torrent in 2 1/2 hours or less. No complaints here.
Hey thaigold, may I ask what your signal strength is and where exactly you are in Bangkok? Are you with True or a TOT provider?

I've been on hiatus for a few days so couldn't reply sooner. Thanks for all the good advice, but on a computer start up with Kingston attached, the drive underwent a file scan check and deleted all "junk" files and folders. Why this didn't happen on previous reboots, who knows. I'm just happy a reformat was avoided. I may try the Touch utility if I ever have a similar problem again.

Forget about all the technical argy-bargy, I wonder how expensive it will be to use. Will they charge up to 1 baht a MB or something more reasonable, like .05? In my dreams.

A bit late, but on Opera 10.53, the steams on the site work great. A plug-in problem no doubt.

Is anyone using True's trial 3G service near Fortune on Ratchadapisek Road. They say if you live within 1 kilometer of there, you have a signal. I have no idea what I need to connect, so need help.

I recently had problems with this particular Cisco router on my friend's notebook. I took it back to the shop I bought it from, and the Cisco kid there also had problems. Finally, a True technician came out and chucked it out and replaced it with True's WiFi router and no problems. My guess is that this Cisco is too high tech for the internet here.

Limewire's days are gone, I feel. I use YouTube to search for the song and keepvid.com, then a converter to convert mp4 to mp3.
Windows Vista Insatallation

The recovery partition is useless since the HP Backup and Recovery Manager is long gone after the installation on Windows XP.
Getting all the drivers for the machine is not a problem, however, as long as you're running Vista and not XP. HP doesn't provide drivers for XP.
I have the driver download page for my HP model number.
What I'm uncomfortable with is reformatting drive C, and then not being able to install the Vista DVD. I have the Vista CD already.
