  1. I remember at the time how many forum members were frustrated with Abhisit for not doing anything to end what was at the time utter chaos in central bangkok. The general consensus back then was Abhisit was too patient with the red demonstrators, and that something had to done, and by done everyone understood that meant sending in the army.

What happened after that, what with black shirts and lots of guns with real ammo I'm not sure we will ever find out. What I do know though is saying it was wrong 5 years down the line is cowardly and sanctimonious, as at the time there was no other way out.

So very true. I remember the peaceful red protesters firing grenades into BTS stations, trying to set fire to gasoline trucks, burning buses and driving them at troops. I remember the redshirts setting up road blocks and assaulting and robbing citizens, redshirts stopping a military truck with armed soldiers aboard pulling them out and assaulting them, the soldiers wouldn't raise their weapon in their own defence and had them confiscated by the mob. One soldier was even murdered with his own weapon! I remember the Abhist government refused to take action preferring to negotiate, then when a deal was arranged Thaksin vetoed it and the violence continued.

  2. Since our Police force is corrupt to the bone and has a worldwide reputation as an organized criminals, I welcome the British to come review the case.

    That's what he should say.

indeed they let the boss of the island on the crime scene as the pics prove seriously does anybody think thats a real investigation?

but they insist and they are so persistent and stubborn in their farce

Very strange and concerning event, the injuries to Hannah Witheridge appear to be and act of anger designed to make a beautiful girl deformed and ugly. Hopefully the truth will come out and the perversely sick individuals who committed this heinous act will be suitably punished.

PS: You can find an interesting video at You Tube, entitled "The Story of the Koh Tao Murder", but beware there are some graphic pics.

  3. we can only hope they have done dna tests on his other male family members to get the proof needed, it also seems that the police were stalling the investigation under orders from these influential people, lets hope this does not mean that the killer will walk free due to family influence as we so often see here in Thailand.

I was thinking this morning back to Dale Henry's murder in Ranong. The murderer was tight with the police, and was known to have done "jobs" for them. The victims families need to get a good lawyer. The Canadian embassy were not the most helpful in Dale's case, so don't expect too much from the UK one.

Good point Mosha. I remember that case. Awful it was the pressure was kept on. Sadly the tosssers at Brit Embassy wont do anything

The wife of a Canadian man shot to death in Thailand, her lover and a hit man have been sentenced to life in prison. Dale Henry, 48, was shot in the head while sleeping in his own bed at his home in Ranong province, Thailand on Feb. 3, 2008.

It's almost as if Thaksin is worried about being forgotten. Judging by the poor artwork and general naffness of the book cover, this must be another masterpiece by the crying Lieutenant Sunisa L.

My favourate Thaksin book is the one he had written to portray himself as a man of the people. It is hilarious. Easily googled, will have you laughing in disbelief at his humble upbringing slaving away in his Dads coffee shack and then riding to school alone through dark roads on a rickety push bike. Just brilliant!

I 'Googled', 'Thaksin autobiography' and didn't find it. Will you please supply a link or key words to use on Google?

Jaidam is basing his scorn on a Thai Rak Thai Advert before the 2001 Election. To understand that, let's face it, electioneering piece in it's context, it might be worth reading this:

Pasuk Phongpaichit and Chris Baker in “Thaksin: The Business of Politics in Thailand” look carefully into Thaksin’s background and note that by the time of Thaksin’s birth his family was “well off and well connected” (page 34) although notes (page 36) for a period of time that the family fell on hard times after Thaksin’s father was apparently cheated by a business partner and Thaksin’s early schooling was at a nursery at a local temple and that Thaksin helped his father in the businesses they had. Pasuk and Baker then note (page 36 again) that the hard times were “relatively brief” because after three years at a local school Thaksin later went to Montfort College which they describe as “one of Chiang Mai’s most established, prestigious, and expensive schools” for the rest of his education.

BP: Thaksin was never poor. He was born into a well-connected family, but through circumstances his family became middle-class for anywhere between three to five years before rejoining the Chiang Mai upper classes. BP should point out that this is Chiang Mai “upper classes” and while it is correct to describe Montfort as an expensive school for Chiang Mai, the cost of tuition fees pales in comparison to an international school in Bangkok.

It might be worth reading the topic Fab4 as you post has nothing to do with it.

But given that Thaksin is such a Pathetic prophetic figure it must give him pause to castigate the author of this book as the title 2559 is also the alleged number of people killed during Thaksin's war on drugs. Or that 2016 marks ten years from 2006 and the end of the statutes of limitation for Thaksin's crimes.

PS: Ramet, google, "Thaksin biography" autobiography implies he wrote it himself.
