  1. It happened once or twice in twenty years that an item was not in the bag after shopping at a 7/11. Grrrr. However, on one occasion I thought I left a 500 baht note on the counter and upon inquiring the next day it was returned to me. The three staff each received a hundred baht tip for putting a big smile on my face. I rate 7/11 staff at 99.9/100.
  2. Good point, Mike. If the amount I fill in the tax return is too small, it would look suspicious as it would be inadequate to cover my living expenses.
  3. If I didn't transfer any money into Thailand but made monthly withdrawals at the ATM with a foreign debit card, would I be able to avoid local taxes? Thanks for your input.
  4. I have a blue book with my name and I am not a Thai citizen. I asked for one and it was issued to me over the counter in Pattaya. This appears to be an anomaly. Was it a fluke or can someone provide an explanation? Thanks.
  5. No, and the ratio of kindness to rudeness is 100:1
  6. That's right. At my school they were put straight into the store room never to be seen again.
  7. I only complained once at a Thai restaurant and don't recommend that anyone does. I only that said the food was cold and asked for it to be reheated. It came back half an hour later, cold and perhaps tampered with. Yes, it was very busy It was pre internet.

    Boy Blues Bar

My deepest condolences to Boy's friends and family. I enjoyed his music very much and hoped to see him play again. May I know the circumstances of his death?
  9. Entering Australia one has to sign a declaration whether food is being imported. Twice I declared I had no food, completely forgetting that I did. I was caught once and given a stern warning which was well-deserved. I wasn't detained or fined.
  10. Maybe just lucky, but my experiences at Suvarnabhumi post-covid have been excellent.
  11. Everything good in cattle class on recent Thai flights. Will continue to fly with them. Mooooooo.
  12. Not completely reliable. Gave me a wrong form once and created a domino effect nearly cost me 30K baht in tea money.
  13. Accepted a fare to airport then showed up to tell me it's too far. Why? Asked me to cancel the ride. Told him to get lost. Parked and watched me frantically try to get a Grab. Why? Not going to stop using Bolt because of one idiot but please allow for the possibility of getting one and have a Plan B. And tip generously for good service.
  14. At the purple one in Big Third Alphabet I was offered a probable Ponzi by a staff member. Impossible returns. Beware. (Sukh, Pattaya.)
  15. Hi wn78. I used to be a reflexologist. According to its dogma, pain in a part of the foot indicates ill health in the corresponding part of the body (see chart). i could choose to give comfortable massages and take the money, or I could try to improve someone's health and make them uncomfortable at the risk that they'll take their business elsewhere.
  16. Glad to see so many taking the side of the worker, although there are also good employers like those I have been lucky to have.
  17. There are permanent solutions but I had some temporary respite by covering the shower drain with a wet cloth and plugging the kitchen sink when not in use.
  18. Jomtien Beach. Somewhat trashless and somewhat blue.
  19. 1. Can I port my number to post paid 2. And if I do would I be able to top up credit and validity in Australia using my SCB app. 1, I don't know. 2. Yes. The DTAC app will allow payments from a number of Thai banks including SCB. The payment is verified by OTP sent to the DTAC number and it appears on my phone while it is in Australia.
