  1. nobody ever said anything about short distance.

The problem is the broke farangs using them on chao-fah and the bypass road, causing mayhem and havok.

If you live in nai-harn-rawai-kata then go ahead, use it to get to the beach or whatever, the traffic never goes beyond 40km/h anyways. I think its a good idea to use one in those small slow roads, save on gas and save on cleaning products.

I have had more problem with farangs using samlors in the middle of the main roads or driving their very tanned and no so respectable wife on their knees with 3 non-lukrung kids tied to the steering wheel of the motorbike(with lights off at 9pm when the kids should of been to bed hours ago) than with thais.

Why does a farang using one mean he is broke? I use one because of the convenience and because neither I or my nurse can drive a car.

  2. If they annoy you tough t1tty. Learn to live with them like all the other stuff you moaning minnies have to put up with.

I have just had one built onto my bike with a ramp and I sit in my wheelchair strapped in it while my carer drives me about. Without it i wouldn't be able to get around.

As for them being illegal...we went through a police check yesterday where they were pulling all the bikes over...copper waved us through and smiled.

  3. Not tried the Offshore since the new owner took over so hope it has improved as prior to him it had gone downhill bigtime...the sausage was inedible and the coffee rank.

Montes Bar and Restaurant for me on Pisitkoranee Road bottom of 50 Pee Hill.

  4. I wonder why there aren't more of the bigger 4.5' X 9' size tables as opposed to the easier 4' X 8' tables. A serious pool hall should have serious full regulation size tables IMO :).

The owners want it to be easy so you play 6, 7 or 8 games an hour at 30 baht a game.

  5. Oh that sounds more like it! It was an exercise and they probably had people acting injured or dead as part of it. Someone passes by and sees maybe 8 "dead" people laid out and thinks it's real.

I've had a good look round where it is supposed to have happened...behind Safari Pub I was told...but see no sign of it. The road behind Safari is badly rutted and I could only get about halfway along it on my old Wave...a lot of the edge has fallen over the side in several places but not where I could see any shacks below. Plenty of elephants plodding up and down it. probably part of the exercsie took place behind Safari too.

  6. Pretty much confirms it then :-( Why do they hold back on reporting it? If it's 8 bodies now ok and if they find more afterwards they can always say so in an update. I suppose it will finally make the news tomorrow.

Meanwhile a hole appears in Patong hill and it's all over the media within 30 minutes or so!!

  7. I'll go and have a look in the morning IF it stops raining because where I'm told it happened is only about 400 yards from me.

2 were killed a couple of weeks ago on the hillside in Patong up behind the Beach House bar on Nanai Road.

  8. I've been told 8 killed yesterday in a landslide between Patong and Karon so presumably onto a Burmese workers camp? Yet there is nothing in the media.

Maybe this will be like when I posted about the 2 poisonings on PhiPhi 2 days before it appeared in the local farang media.

So you've read it here first BUT my source is Thai! This isn't something anyone is likely to make up but maybe they have their facts wrong. Anyone else heard anything?

  9. Rumourmill says that the owners of the new resort are pressuring the authorities to have all the gogo bars in Seadragon relocated and for the touts licensed by the police to have their times restricted when they can operate. Somebody's idea to improve the image of the Bangla area!

I heard recently of 3 guys getting hit with a bill of 2700 baht for 3 beers in one of the gogos recently. You don't mess with the touts though...bit like the tuktuk drivers can be some nasty repraisals as one gogo owner can testify.

  10. I've been dealing with several of the hospitals here for a while and getting a bit tired of the runaround about pricing. Now I'm looking to get a cortisone injection in my spine. Orthopaedic at Phuket International when I asked him how much the cortisone injection would cost ummmed and arred a bit then said about 30,000 baht and I would have to go in at 9 one morning and would have to stay in overnight and go home following morning. I agreed to have it done but when looking on the internet find it shouldn't be anywhere near that price and reckon he didn't have a clue what it would cost and just thought of the first figure that came into his head and added 10000...or more likely he DID know the cost and was trying it on...and I had told him I lived here and didn't have insurance. So PIH gets a vote of "no confidence" from me now and I won't be going back.

So I phone up and cancel the injection appointment at PIH. I go back to Bangkok Phuket where I had first started out to ask them how much it would cost thinking they will probably quote about the same as they are an "insurance" hospital too and the first thing the girl asked me was if I had insurance so I said no. BP say it will cost 7500 - 8000 maximum and I will be allowed to go home after 3 or 4 hours if there are no complications! So a 1/4 the price of the hospital down the road! I should have asked her how much it would be if I did have insurance...I would guess 15000+.

I've not been to Vachira but no doubt it would be even cheaper there!

  11. I had muscle pain in my lower back after sitting for only a few minutes - visits to a chiropractor sorted it out - for a while, but when I returned to work I would get the problem back again in no time at all.

The chiropractor I visited had a web site with some links to alternative medecine suggestions and one of them was something which seemed very off the wall. I was, like most people, sceptical but thought I would give it a go, lo and behold it sorted me out in a few days, my back is now about 95% right.

Now, I'm going to set myself up to a heap of ridicule with this suggestion, but, like I said, it worked for me, so:

Have a look at this website: www.copperhealth.com/coil_instructions.htm.

It is for something called a Lakhovsky Coil.

And please don't ridicule it till you have at least tried it!

    LP

I won't ridicule it because I've always been open to alternative medicine. Much of the time I've learnt the body is self healing mostly during sleep and just needs a little help along the way. I have bulging discs in my lower back and with one doc I'm at the point where he says surgery is the next option...take out a disc and fuse 2 together...meaning I will lose the pain and be able to walk again but my back will be stiff forever and I won't be able to bend right over. So off to another hospital and another orthopaedic and I'm back on the expensive meds again and having physio everyday which includes decompression...being stretched.

  12. Going back at least 10 maybe even 20 years I have a faint recollection of such a gadget being sold back in the UK in such organs as Exchange & Mart; markets down the Old Kent Road and at car boot sales by characters like this>>> onlyfoolsandhorses.jpg

Maybe they're finally penetrating the Asian market!

Would love to know how much you paid for yours and for the installation ladykata? Is it a one off fee?

  13. would you give them 2000 baht but not take them home with you?

afterall I dont see anything good in forcing the girls to do the hanky panky in order for them to get some money together to send home! :)

555....I can't think of many here that would need forcing to go with you for 2000 baht! Especially now in Low Season.

  14. So eventually if that's the case and these gadgets are illegal...maybe they are diverting the metering to somebody elses' usage!...at some point the company who supplies ladykata with her electric are going to wonder why they are only getting 600 baht a month off her when she used to spend 3500 baht with them and will come knocking on her door to find out why and will no doubt find her using the illegal devices? She is effectively committing fraud and cheating the electric company out of their revenue right...or this magic box is sending some of her metering to some poor unsuspecting neighbour which again is fraud. She must be really gullible to think this magic box is going to reduce her bill so much without someone the other end noticing.

Or 3500 baht to 600 baht...to put it in laymans' terms...she's fiddling the meter bigtime!

  15. ladykata wrote>>>

anyway the latest thing i bought off the internet, a import from china reduces your electric bill, a replacement fuse box with a digital readout, don't know the technical name for it, my bill was on average 3500 baht, now never over 600 baht, i know a electrical device uses electric so how can it use less to work, i don't know but within 3 months it had paid for itself, now all my friends are buying and installing them.

3500 baht for a month!!!!...and you're a lady living on your own? What on earth are you running there? I've been here 5 years. Apartment I'm in now I have a fan and computer running almost all day and nighttime I run aircon all night. My bill has NEVER been more than 1800 baht. Seems to me before you installed all the money saving gadgets you were being ripped off. You sure you weren't paying for next doors' electric too? That goes on a lot.
