You have a 12 month grace period to renew your licence.

i.e. if you have a 5 year licence you can get a new 5 year licence within 12 months of expiry.

After 12 months you would have to go through the process again, which is the same as the conventional renewal anyway (i.e. need same documents and do the indoor tests)... but you’d only get a 2 year licence.

    thankyou this is good news/info

From a Thai bureaucracy perspective, getting a Thai DL is one of the easier things to do...

    1) Letter of Address

    2) Passport Copy

    3) Medical Cert

    4) Home country licence (no need for IDP if in English)

Turn up in the morning..... do the indoor tests....  The only thing an agent does is guide you through a simple process and perhaps cut down some queueing time.

thanks, at present im not in thailand and license finish soon, that why i would like agent to do for me. i have 1 yr renewable visa (retirement), valid till mid next yr. not sure how quick i make back to thailand

  3. thanks for all replies.

had my local "fixer guy" come over and after checking everything have come to find that the alternator is damaged... dropping it off today to see if they can refurb it. hope they can as its made in italy and a new one is around 450 euro... also it was only producing 110 v ..... so have a doogy dial and looks like the breaker is faulty too...

  4. the dial reads 210 v when engine is flat out. it runs most of the house hold stuff but you can tell that say the bigger elecrical stuff is not running at 100 %. before  it would start/ run the big aircon or the submerge pump but it will not now.

over many hours (1000 +) could the avr become worn/damaged?

sounds like a job for my local kubota dealer.

  5. got a kubota  dg7500 geni that has not been used for say 6 months. started it the other day and can only get 210 volts when the engine is flat out.

any ideas why? i would take it back to where i bought it but its very heavy ect.... a home fix would be good.

  6. will be getting my new passport soon, have a non o multi visa issued from outside of thailand, that is now expired, when exiting the country (land crossing) can i just take my old and new passport and get stamped out in the new one or do i have to visit immigration first to get the new passport "activated?"

  7. Are you looking to just supply the pump via the genset?

the pump would work from the mains electric say for 8 months of the year, then when the electric is on-off I would want the generator as backup, also when not working the pump I plan to take it to the main house and use it for say fans and maybe aircon if possible, but really its just for the pump as we need access to water at all times.

  8. hi, I have a 1.5 hp submersible water pump (franklin) and want to buy a generator to power it when the electric goes off. I will be looking for a 3.5kw or slightly larger generator to run this. my question is how do I connect the pump to the generator, just take the cable out of the fuse box and put a plug on it then plug straight into the generator? would I need some sort of breaker between the devices to protect the pump? say like a fused extension cable? I will be moving the generator between houses so would it also be ok to plug say fans or aircon units in this way also. ie straight into generator with a plug? sorry if my question is stupid bit I do not have a clue..........

  9. thanks for all the replies! as ever a great source of info on here!!

the paper work I have is kor sor 2 I think....... on the first page it is just really a copy of the front of the marriage cert. ie no surname. on page two its says that we have requested a change in the cert. ie my surname.

when I went for the last visa run I had to see the boss veitiane, had too wait many hours, he said that it is still not right that my surname does not appear on the first page of the paper work. on my photo copy he made some notes, to this effect. he said I have to get this sorted by next visit!

at the local amper (where we were married) the lovely boss man says no ways is he changing anything! he looked at the notes too. I will try and go again to see if he can help, if not I will get the wife to phone the relevant office in bkk. thanks for all the advice, always a learning curve here!

  10. hi, my marriage certificate does not have my surname on it. only just found out. been married 3 three, blink.png was told at veitaine (spelling) that have to get it sorted!

been back to the local amper twice and have been told will not change certificate. have been given four bits of paper with stamps ect on, took them on visa run and was told by boss at veitaine, we will not give you visa next time. back again to amper, told get divorced and marry again..........? not really into that. any thoughts.

yes I wish I had spotted the mistake before..........

  11. Here in Udon/Nong Khai area, a decent one from a shop that builds them are around 90-110k. That's why i snapped a s/h one up for 55k! This came with a 14hp as new Kubota engine in, (150 hours on the hour meter - yep the 14hp ones have an integral hour meter as well as electric start), worth nearly the price on it's own. It's a mish mash of Nissan and Toyota, Toyota chassis and gearbox, everything else Nissan.160 kms to get home. Realised it needed some money throwing at it after i rebuilt the clutch master and slave cylinders twice, all the tyres were shot. I've had 3 punctures in about 6 months, every time replacing not only the inner tube, but also buying a decent s/h tire same time for around 700 baht. Took it to my favourite mechanic, and said check EVERYTHING, will need a new clutch, maybe brakes. He replaced everything with the word clutch in it (6k), new front brake discs and pads, 4 sets of wheel brgs, greased everything that had a grease nipple, changed the gearbox oil, and gave it the thumbs up, total cost 12k inc labour. Great truck now, total cost about 70k, drive it myself too and i'm 6'3", after i chopped the roof and added 4", great for Thai street cred. This has a number plate, but again fallen off another vehicle - never been registered, never will be. Cops love it with me driving - no probs. Gearbox jumps out of 4th, so you have to keep your hand on the lever to keep it engaged, no probs. Turned down many offers of 100k for it. Very useful truck.

    Are the 90-110k recent prices?

Can you specify where in Udon/Nong Khai area the Etans are build (village name)?

    Cheers

brother inlaws has one of these machines, very strong indeed, seen it loaded with tons of sugar ect.. he runs its with a kabuta 140 engine that he has converted to run on gas (lpg), you can hear him coming from miles away. he says its very cheap too run. it owes him around the 100,000 mark.

ask around at your local shop ,i m sure someones knows somone who makes these.
