  1. I know several people to which this has happened when they changed countries, particularly to countries that have seemingly problematic IP ranges which I suspect are regularly used for brute force attacks. The real problem arose because their reset accounts were other hotmail accounts which were also asking to be verified by the other hotmail accounts, thus leading them to fall into a reset loop of hell.

Be prepared to answer a lengthy and detailed questionnaire about your account. You'll probably need to repeat the questionnaire a few times.

2FA will prevent this from happening in the future.

  2. The authorised service centres here are not great in my experience. I gave them (MCC Siam Discovery) a faulty power supply for my MBP last year and it took them 2 weeks to replace it with a new one, despite the fact that it was quite obviously completely dead. The guy I dealt with was also pretty rude and unhelpful.

From what I understand, if it had been a proper Apple store (in the US for example), they would generally just swap it out with a new one on the spot.

Apple should really do something about these crappy places since it only serves to drag their reputation down.

  3. Open VPN admittedly I only use the Android version so cannot offer a review of ipad/iphone version

The OpenVPN client works fine on an iPad, but I believe the OP is asking for a VPN service, not a VPN client. I VPN to my own dedicated server, so don't use paid services, but I heard TunnelBear is good for mobile devices. They offer half a Gig free per month or $4.99 for unlimited.

  4. Please correct me if I am in error on this. TrueCrypt's web site closed and the software is no longer supported. If that is true then it is highly insecure by definition. May I suggest switiching to PGP or GNU PGP?

7.1 is generally considered to be safe.

Truecrypt seems to be working fine with no problems at all.

Thanks for the info. I haven't upgraded yet since I have no particularly compelling reason to do so, but this is good to know.

  5. Reinstall the OS (actually probably not worth it now since 8.1 will be released today anyway and you can just install that). The 5C is plenty fast enough to run iOS 8 without any lag.

I hope they sort out these wifi problems. I'm getting them intermittently on an iPhone 6 with 8.0.2.
