Poisson? You mean feed him a French fish?
Probably working on the idea of the fish bones getting stuck in the dog's throat.

I bought one of those devices fifteen years ago due to the same problem. Had to get a friend bring it over from the UK for me.
The one I had was no use at all, positioned it within five metres of the dog. It didn't affect the dog or make it quiet.
Perhaps it was deaf.

Mind you, I've filled in the "occupation" question erroneously in previous years. A friend and I used to fly to Phnom Penh on a monthly basis.
When arriving back at Utapao we had various occupations: brain surgeon, goldfish inspector, cow impregnator, anything we could make up. No one ever read it anyway.

I'm on a WP visa, for which that is not needed, so I wouldn't know. But why wouldn't they accept printed statements, which are legally the same as the prints in the bankbooks?
Hmm, I'd think that arguing with an IO as to what they have to accept is probably more difficult than pushing string uphill.

Bankbooks?
I guess some people still live in the 1970's
Yes, immigration particularly when applying for an annual extension of stay.
As we know it varies from branch to branch.
A letter from the bank confirming the minimum amount for the relevant time scale, plus copies of your passbook entries (plus sight of the passbook itself) have always been requested when I apply.
It's all part of playing the game to fulfil the requirements.
I do try not to wear my platform shoes and flared jeans when I go to do it though.

This reminds me of a long time ago when software was distributed on floppy disk...a work friend asked for a copy of a program and I took about 4 copies to him over about a week, each time he said there was nothing on the disk...I was rude and we had an argument..then a work colleague asked if I had let the disks get anywhere near a magnet...well I thought about it and low and behold..every time I had made a copy I put it on top of a speaker just near the door so I didn't forget it before going to work...wow did I feel foolish.
I take your point, but out of four books, only two of them are keep in the same place - not near any metalwork at all.

Annoying isn't it? One particular branch of BKK Bank has a similar issue with the passbook machine, I go there occasionally to see if it's been fixed. I guess you already know the answer ...
I've even tried the "dumb farang" approach and asked one of the staff to "show me how it works", she got the same error but still it's not fixed.
Such is life, there are plenty of other branches.
Yes, true.
I think I'll make an effort to search out another update machine to see what happens. I just hope it's not going to be like pushing string uphill...
Watch this space.

I've had this same problem for more than a year.
Not a problem with creasing the page, but I get the 'magnetic strip error' every time.
I know it's not my book at fault, as in our family we have four accounts, within the same bank, but two different branches of SCB.
I've tried all four books and see the same error for each book.
The bank tried to say the magnetic strip on my book was damaged - but never on four different books, for four different accounts. I pointed that out to them, which only resulted in some shoulder-shrugging, even when I asked if the machine could be checked.
I also phoned the SCB call centre, told them the above. The call centre staff said they would report the matter directly and get an engineer to check the machine.
Needless to say, it's still the same a year later.
I haven't seen another branch nearby with a bank book update machine. I could try harder to find one I suppose, but from your comment it could be a common error that no one wants to look into.

very well said. he said he's got money. I think it would be put to better use on a lobotomy for himself. just a thought.
Personally, I'd much rather have a full bottle in front of me, than a full frontal lobotomy.

There was a gang of pick pockets who were found with knives arrested in the same area yesterday. We should have a news story on it shortly
Any chance of posting a link to it here once it's published, as I don't know if it might be in Bangkok news, Thailand news, or perhaps somewhere else?
Ta.

Can't you win an argument with your daughter by out smarting her?
Hmm, I'd suggest that "outsmarting" is perceived by Thais as "loss of face". That could cause resentment for years. Having said that, crushing the car would probably have the same effect too.

If she still gives you back-chat will you crush the bus too?

I'd agree with you on that. I assumed I was more decrepit than I'd imagined and my memory was playing tricks on me.
BTW, I have already emailed HMPO asking if there is a date already decided when the burgundy passports will be replaced by 'blue'.
(It says they will respond within 15 working days, so don't get too excited yet.)
Further to my post above HMPO have just replied to my email - in less than 24 hours - that's great!
See below:
(quote) We will be introducing a new blue and gold passport for all UK citizens once we have left the European Union.
Leaving the European Union means that British passports will no longer have to conform to the standard EU common format passport criteria, and this gives us the opportunity to introduce a new, unique travel document.
To save the taxpayer money, the newly designed passports will be introduced in a phased approach, starting from October 2019. We anticipate that from 1 January 2020, all UK passports will be blue.
There is no need for British passport holders to do anything ahead of their current passport renewal date – existing passports remain valid. Upon application, the standard renewal fees will apply. (unquote)
This is basically the same as someone else who posted a page from the gov.uk website a couple of hours ago.

To avoid over excitement Blue passports will be issued from October 2019. That is when the contract for the supplier is renewed.
Thanks for that info, but will they have some stock to use up as well, irrespective of the contract renewal date?
Also, what about Brexit in March 2019? Are you saying they will still be issuing passports with the EU on until October 2019, or is there a more complicated answer about using up the burgundy passport stock, but somehow without the EU at the top?
Sorry to be pedantic, but your reply has raised more questions (to my mind anyway)!

They can not understand how I can find the way to a place I have never been before
They were very concerned that I would get in the car and drive down 600 km to find a spot.
I have a big Thailand map on the wall.
The "show me Bangkok" question is quite a challenge for most.
I also have a world map besides.
Better don't even try a quiz!
Years ago in Pattaya, the usual touts came round beer bars selling stuff.
One guy had a world map. I asked where it was printed. He proudly said "Thailand". I knew that already, as it had Singapore in the southern hemisphere.
