There is certainly a theoretical possibility for Covid to be spread via surface contamination, but hundreds of people contracting it from the same turnstile beggars belief.

That's true. There could be a host of other surfaces elsewhere causing the same problem. We don't know why the health officials narrowed the blame down to this one area.

When I was taken out, it was by a motorcycle passing far too close to me and its wing mirror caught under my arm and dragged me before I went <deleted> over tit. They pulled up just up the road, turned around, saw I was still alive and sped off. At the same time some stall holders at the side of the road were screaming at a pick-up to stop as it was turning out of a side soi and was going to run over me on the main road. I managed to scramble out of the way and tried to pull my bike with me but the pick up ran over the rear wheel before it stopped. Luckily I wasn't hurt like you, just cuts and bruises. Took the wheels off the bike and hopped in a taxi which dropped me off at the bike shop, where I left the bike for repairs. new wheel set and derailleur.

The sod of it was that I had cycled from my home near Udomsuk to Sanam Luang, back along Petchburi road and was heading up Onut to the airport track. So I had been through the heavy traffic areas, only to be taken out on a much quieter road.

Hope everything works out with your back and you can get back in the saddle. I haven't been out on my bike for 5 years now (since I remarried). But will be out a lot when I retire upcountry in a couple of years.

You were hit by a motorbike. I've had a few pass me - in both directions, but not really close.

Having said that, it's only one time too close that causes an accident.

Yeah, nearly getting run over by a pick-up too - the usual lack of spatial awareness.

At least it only ran over your wheel and not your leg.

    It's Kalasin-ish, you're moving to isn't it, if IIRC?

That's 170km from me in Udon to Amphur Muang Kalasin. I've no idea if in a couple of years I'll still be able to cycle that far. See how it goes.

My info' is that there are four things for sure that can exempt you outside. Maybe there are more?

01 - Drinking. A plastic cup of juice with a big straw. Or swigging a can of cola.

02 - Eating. I always keep a sausage in my pocket for this.

03 - Smoking. According to the lady doing the slippery massages.

04 - Exercising. Self explanatory; any physical activity really.

The local market started up again last evening. Masks about 50/50.

I won't ask about the sausage in your pocket.

Out our way, absolutely everyone on the regular market wears a mask. No exceptions - other people will tell them to put one on or to go away.

    04 - Exercising.

It seems that although the face mask regulation is nationally implemented, the exercise one is vague and set at local level.

Despite a senior government doctor last year stating publicly you must not wear a mask when exercising as it restricts the free flow of air into the lungs, and you need more air when running, cycling, etc.

(I'm not referring to our mate Big Nut - he's no doctor)

My interest is regarding cycling. if I ever get back on the bike after being side-swiped while in a wide motorbike lane by a car driver in the first car lane not paying attention. Caused me a fractured spine and broken coccyx (don't snigger boy).

Blimey spend a penny an' do some quarantine in return ..

sounds like a cr*p deal to me ..

Is it extra hard wearing covid on the turnstile as well ? as you might have thought it had been worn away after few dozen touches , alright maybe a couple of hundred but 800 odd is stretching it abit ..

We're getting down to logistics now. I know I'm making some assumptions here, but bear with me.

If, for example there is a turnstile at the entrance, then either another turnstile or a door which needs to be pushed open.

One person puts the covid germ on the turnstile at entry. Some people immediately following could touch it. Then the exit could have the same problem with the exit passing on the germ through contact.

Again, if people use the toilet a couple of times a day, they could be repeating the process. If they use the market regularly, once infected they'll be doing the same for days.

As I posted earlier on here about plastic, stainless steel, cardboard, copper, being found to harbour the covid germ, I'd think it could be possible.

I have seen many a Thai and others never washing their hands entering or exiting toilets, suffice to say, touching anything, including ones private parts must start with washing hands before and after, anything less than that is just dirty !!!

    Slightly OT.

I remember hearing in a safety/cleanliness lecture about the importance of washing your hands after using the toilet, but also before.

. There was an instance quoted of a guy who worked in an engineering factory. He developed cancer of the penis, due to not washing his hands before urinating. The germs, etc, present on his very dirty hands were transferred every day for years.

Naomi wasn't a shy person. Spoke her mind to the point of being rude; as you say.

Point taken about taking pics of people without masks. I can recall the three people that were in the village wearing masks; at least while I was looking. One was an ice-cream seller. The other two were garbage collectors.

    I'll be careful.

Even driving in your car alone, incredibly I think you're supposed to wear a mask (as it's 'outside your home' according to the regs).

Problem now is that, even as the fine has so kindly been reduced from 6,000 to 1,000 Baht, it can create an opportunity for police to make some money out of it. Or is that just  my cynicism at work?

How on Earth can you blame an inanimate object for the spread of a virus?

Oh, wait, I forgot where I was for a moment.

A year ago scientists were trying to find out different ways covid could be transmitted.

A medical journal in the US published data that the covid virus could survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and 48 hours on stainless steel.

  8. I've only seen such accident first-hand. It was thirty years ago on soi Ruam-Rudi in Bangkok.

A motorbike with a passenger rode over half-a-dozen telephone cables laying in the road. As they went past, the cables became tangled in the motorbike's rear wheel.

Suddenly the cables became taught, stopped the motorbike instantly.

Driver and passenger both flew over the top of the bike, hitting the road hard.

Spokeman for CCSA saying clusters NOT under control. People warned to be extra careful. Health Minister does't know what CCSA is saying. What a complete and utterly brainless, incompetent moron this guy is. Definetly PM material with these attributes.

'Health Minister does't know what CCSA is saying'

    Heresy, pure heresy.

He's just got his mouth set on 'random' at the moment.
