  1. Yawn! Another branch of the ruling elite are wheeled out to fan the dying embers of mr. Sutheps insurrection. Only the courts can save him now.

How has the state of emergency harmed the economy? It is the daily protests that have harmed the economy.

Effectively this group supports Suthep because he says he'll reduce the minimum wage. I don't know how people manage on 300 ฿ a day, let alone any less. The minimum wage is a populist policy according to the ruling elite. It's a populist policy that allows millions of Thais to live with some dignity. Not much, but some, and now the RE would like to take it away. No wonder PT keep winning elections!

Imagine you own a bar/restaurant with 5 employees who used to get 200 a day and now you have to pay 300 a day. That is 500 a day on your daily wage bill, or, 15,000 per month. You would need to sell a lot of beer, pies and Sunday roasts to recoup that. That's assuming you were breaking even in the first place.

So the worst case scenario is you go out of business and x5 Thais are unemployed.

Best case scenario is you convince them to stick with the 200 rate

it make you a slave owner, remember me never to come to your place

  2. Hahaha riiiiight! And you guys are helping the farmers out of the kindness of your hearts?

Your darling leader and his cronies came up with this idiot scam and rather than help the farmers, they ended up screwing them. How many more rice farmers have to kill themselves before you idiots admit this scheme is not only a failure but a monumental waste of tax payer money? PRDC use these farmers to overthrow the Poo government? How about the Shinawatras using them for their votes and then screwing them over? bah.gif

Yes you can buy food, take care your kid, family.... in reality you are just a looser, just your fascist leader did this making the country looking like a third world, i hope you proud yourself.

nobody want to buy rice, because what you do to the country, and i see most people see now Yellow = just Be YELLOW means coward not responsible for actions happen

  3. I have lost track of how many "grenade" reported bombings there have been in the last week or so. But tell me, o wise ones, is the term "grenade" being used in error by low intelligence level reporters, or do they now sell grenades at the local 7-Elevens in Bangkok? If so why not supply the security guards with several to lob back at the original attacker.

Honest to goodness grenades, were do they get them? I don´t knowñ but there have not been any further details about the group of people arrested a few days ago carrying the same type of grenades as have been used.

That is because they have been freed because they said they didn't do anything wrong and that the 4 grenades and ammo were just for personal protection and the police accepted this without delay and issued a statement that these people were totally innocent of all and any involvement in attacks on protesters and they had 'honorable' intentions.

This is why the police are NOT trusted. Personally I hope that the entire police force is replaced once Suthep wins, and he will win.

In your dreams he will win he is just cutting is own hands of why you think red are just sabai because suthep will kill himself he lost already a lot of voters now he start trowing bombs at is own people because red want step down or react to his stupid hitler like speeches

  4. Hooray, keep up the good work Suthep

I happen to agree but you need to understand that a prolonged political crises will also affect the inflation rate in Thailand.

You may get more Baht each time you change your dollars or your pounds, but the goods you buy with that effectively weaker Baht will also be more expensive.

That point often doesn't get through to those who cheer the higher exchange rates.

It will especially affect first those products that have some foreign component or are imported into Thailand ... the kind that Farangs buy.

Such things as Cheese or Hot Dogs or Sausages imported from your home country.

    Basic economics 101.

who want to eat imported food, i live here and buy Thai product and yes some product went up in price a litle but not so much, my opinion they kill this new Hitler called Suthep

  5. I know what you were thinking. You were hoping to spend some time with some cute Thai girls ooying and ahing over your adorable child while you starred at their cleavage and when that did not happen you got pissed off and mutilated your child's hair at home and then took yet another long shower.

your very sick you have to check yourself in with the police

  6. In most cases there are two forms of questions for the response up to you.

First form, yes or no answer: Example - Hon, do you want to go out to dinner tonight? Usually easy to pick up the cue as to the correct reply. You know, does she look tired, is she already cooking, etc.

Second form, two option questions: Example - Hon, do you want to go to Burger King or McDonalds for our wedding anniversary. In this case there is no correct answer as you are in hot water either way. wink.png

up to you means just up to you, it is general teaching english in thailand after 8 year i not hear it

  7. Yingluck and her CAPO (di tutti CAPI) keep on repeating that they will abide by international standards of riot control. They have plenty of latitude to choose Chinese standards that permit the use of explosive tear gas grenades fired from shotguns and wooden staves used on farmers, Kyrgyzstani or Burmese standards that permit the massacre of minorities, Ukrainian or Russian standards that permit just about anything. Looking towards the Western world she could apply US standards as exemplified by the Ohio National Guard that successfully suppressed a peaceful protest at Kent State University in 1970 leaving 4 dead, or closer to home, take a leaf from the Korean book which permitted the massacre of 165 students at Gwangju University in order to restore order in 1980.

Which is to be Yingluck? Please don’t say you don't know anything about this but you have assigned officials to study the issue.

    get a live looser

  8. The restraint shown thus far is commendable. Well done team red, the better people without doubt.

So you would have been full of praise for Abhisit in 2010, waiting nearly 4 weeks before doing anything. Great restraint.

Which govt offices had the reds occupied at that point?

They stormed government house and Thaicom. At Thaicom, they used molotov cocktails.

good at least we had some drinks

  9. The rally ends, and people dispersing back home, which is a good thing in the current climate.

But if they will take the current situation in a good-natured manner remains to be seen. The rally is only the fish leaping into daylight briefly, before returning to the depths where it is unseen. There needs to be dialogue and discussion and consensus between all parties, just going home and feeling angry about lost-face is not going to help anyone.

i agree there is going to be some aftermath

  10. YIngluk could take heat out of all this by simply dissolving parliament and calling new elections but of course Taksin wont allow that since he knows this is probably his last chance and he's quite willing to cause whatever simply to cling on.

I can understand anyone simply refusing to accept anything but total dispersal of the evil Taksin clan and none could trust a word they would say. Taksin has said so many times hell stay away from politics, he resigned and then withdrew that and has broken every promise so its understandable for Suphet to refuse any dealings at all.

How common people will take this I don't know but I do know Taksin has caused so much angst and hatred against him and his clan from normal ordinary people that they are simply totally fed up with him and want him and lot out.

One man and his megalomaniac ego has caused all this and its probably now a war to the end. It is simply not possible to compromise with this government who cock a snoop and openly say they wont recognise court decisions.

So you dont know how common people would react in an election but claim that normal ordinary would react different ?

Please tell us the difference between common people and normal ordinary people ? you seem to be saying they are a different class which inferrs you consider the common people to be inferior and not normal, well its the common people that have the mass vote and perhaps just perhaps that whilst this kind of attitude towards the common people prevails they will continue to mass vote for the party they think will benefit them at least somewhat. It sure isnt going to be the party who considers them to be inferior or abnormal i suspect.

Maybe thats why the past 8 elections have always been the same result, the common vote is the vote that counts not the rich or middle class but the commoner in their millions . wink.png

BS common people ordinary people <deleted> are you on about many common people or ordinary people or poor people or issan people or whatever you call them hate and loathe Taksin. Stop being so crass as to try and pretend to be champion of poor. Your probably like most hypocrites living very nice life . We harvest the rice and my wives family are about as poor as you could get but have through hard work made a decent living a bit removed from where they came from. They however are not so silly as to be brainwashed by red lies and Taksin BS.

You'd be good in a peoples star chamber sitting in judgement while lording it over all and pretending your really with poor.

Just like your master who thinks because he has fooled enough to vote he can do anything. Do you need a list of all dictators who were elected such as Mugabwie, Saddam, Hitler, Amin and countless others. If you can't see Taksin and his clan for what they are you are as blind as those who followed all other would be and successful dictators.

Best just call an election and then amnesty bill is dead but no that would not fit the plan to bring back Taksin at whatever cost

You made the distinction between the two not me, perhaps you have a problem expressing yourself properly and should be more clear in the first place. I Try not to get too wrapped up in the politics of any party as none really care about the people, there are elections that is where it is decided and should stay I do know the results every time in the last few and the endless crys of call an election we want an election every 2 years have always ended the same way. Then again that's not even what this mob wants this time apparently, just what they expect to be given or happen is a little bit vague.

Who said i even like Thaksin ? I don't but i do have respect for the election process and it should be allowed to run its term whoever is elected by due process, stamping about like a child in the meantime every couple of years impresses no one really..

As for dictators stop being such a drama queen, we hear far too much about every single problem since he left being attributed to good old TS the guy hasn't even been in the country for half a decade, talk about a ridiculous blame culture. The rich and elite have dictated in one form or another here for the past ooooooooo forever and probably will continue to, red, black, yellow, white its pretty much all the same only some atm the old money are trying to turn it back a few decades and ignoring the progress that has been made. Not exactly an enlightened bunch.

I hope your rice harvest is most bountiful and that you realise whilst on the farm in your little bubble it is only a minute part of the country and not as obvious where the vote lays as you seem to think, nor has been the last 8 elections and unlikely to be different next time. ATM I see nothing but a bunch of fools running amok disrupting daily events who fear to do it the legal and legitimate way as usual because they know they will lose, if they cared so much they would take the millions of baht wasted and use it to campaign properly and work hard towards changing the red heartland minds, but that's a little bit too long play minded for them i suspect.

Things will change only when attitudes do and I don't see that happening anytime soon with the pathetic assumptions that if someone disagrees or has a neutral point of view they must be on the other side etc .Frankly that's rather limited in thinking and synonymous with the very problems that continue to plague Thailand today.

and who are you the next Suthep ?????

  11. Thanks to all for your advice and insights. My purpose in posting was to solicit other ex-pats' experience with this issue and there was no intent to disparage backpackers. Most backpackers actually are much better than many of the daily/weekly rentals which we get in the building. Need I be politically incorrect in saying that most of them are mannerless, clueless Indians (from the country of India) who swim in the pool with clothes on, have noisy kids running up and down the hallway, and who cook in the unit with the unit door open, creating ubiquitous smells in the hallways. I know that several web sites have mentioned that Indian tourists are new to Bangkok, (as are the newly wealthy Chinese), and that many of them are "cheap charlies" who lack manners and proper courtesy as it relates to their fellow man. Hence, we owners are victims of the Indians' learning curve of proper manners.

if it is my property i do with it as i like rent it to everybody i like. you not still adapted to Asia... let it go you will feel better

  12. Just for those who have difficulty calculating the approximate interest rate charged by these boys... 20.000 becomes 24.000 in 24 days. So the interest/profit of these guys is 4.000 over 24 days. 24.000/20.000 = 20%. On a year basis this is 360/24 = 15 x 20% = 300% Not bad....

On the other hand the vendor should have kept her promise. No one forced her to borrow these 20.000. And when she asked to lower the amount to 500 per day the boys agreed, which is quiet nice of them actually. She then deceived him by not paying up anymore while still owing him money. He got upset and we all would be upset too. So... Well yes, these guys are tugs, but not excessive. And the vendor is a thief as she refused to pay back the money that she borrowed.

only 1 word... correct thinking, i hate this guy's but they are more mild then the Indian tug's here.

just enforce road tax, insurance to the value of the car and ask an normal tax, sure it will change and government will sure make more money, and sure i not like to buy a Porsche who taken apart and put together again.
