  1. "Let me assure you that the Ministry is already doing its best to protect every tourist from every nation," Mr. Somsak said, explaining that the Ministry of Transport will be tasked with reducing number of traffic accidents,

That is a joke, the problem is the crazy driving and an absolute disregard for any laws including the road code. Going through red lights, and compulsory stop signs are the norm. I work in the Eastern seaboard/Rayong area and I see accidents everyday sometimes up to six killed on an offset junction on highway 331. Passing on a dual carriageway for example the same highway 331 while the way is not clear is normal, with cars coming the other way scattering in all directions to avoid the oncoming bus/truck/pickup/car.

The only time you see officials is to be involved in the clean up and the ensuing money train.

  2. The problem is caused by the transfer going via another correspondent bank which deducts 25$ for the service. It depends on whether your overseas bank has a direct relationship or not for a particular currency. I use HSBC to transfer to BBL and in Euros all is normal but when it is USD they use a correspondent bank and 25$ disappears before the money reaches Thailand.

Basically the two banks involved in a TT must hold a reciprocal account with each other, or the payment must be sent to a bank with such an account, a correspondent bank, for further benefit to the ultimate recipient. For that the correspondent bank usually nicks 25$.

    Hope this help

  3. This is the problem when you have 60 -80 year olds running Govermnment and administering among others Universities. Uniforms in Universties except for sports teams went out with the Ark. It's time to get modern thinking people in positions of responsibility and let Thailand go forward instead of regressing.

For the students I hope you go on setting you own standards and resist the old cronies telling you what to do and what to wear. :)

  4. Not too happy with True/UBC.

    What are the options ?

I have a 3 m satelite dish with a multichoice card from SA the rugby is great True UBC could not organise anything regarding rugby. They have channel 29 which says rugby coming and channel 67 says the same, and they actually play it on either ESPN or Star Sport which is brilliant if you want to record it. You wouldn't have a clue which channel to record.

The have their head in the sand. But in the meantime they complain to Dstv in SA that they are pinching their customers while they don't have a clue how to deliver real service to a large group of rugby enthusiasts with cable/KU band in Thailand. But soon they will manage to screw up the little rugby viewing privilige we have at the moment. Most sports bars in Thailand have SA Dstv because TRUE/UBC think providing 6 channels of soccer is what everyone wants to watch. Maybe in Buriram or Roiet but many intelligent people with a little money watch Rugby and have to go outside Thailand to get coverage. Even in "soccer countries" they still manage a balance of sports including cricket not something I like but there should be a choice and in Thailand there is actually none. The funny thing is it costs about 650 - 700 US$ for a SA Dstv Card but the only thing people watch is Sports nothing else - you would think that would send a meesage to UBC but guess what - not at all.
