  1. Taxi is what, 300 bath regular hours and 400 late/holidays including highway from BKK central? I think 2-4 times the regular rate should buy you a decent limo service, I wouldn't want it if it's overpriced.

It seems like you get camrys for under 1000 bath, and then the mercedes e-types are the next step up at around 1500 bath, and then the top of the line luxury sedan bmw 7-series at over or maybe around 2000 bath.

  2. Finally I'm ready to get rid of all the filthy sweaty plebby masses when I travel, my Thai Airways gold card is due to arrive this summer. So I noticed last time I went to Suvarna that the 1st class lane which leads to Thai Aiways business/first/gold card check in area 1 is for limousines only - and some of the cabs can get a bit stuffy. So I was wondering if anyone would like to recommend a limousine service that does a good job in the 1000-1500 range from BKK central to Suvarna airport so I can hop right into the first class driving lane at the airport?

  3. Do you REALLY think Issan girls are warmer than "normal" girls? If so, try this little experiment.

Find yourself any poor Issan girl, in the first 5 minutes of meeting her tell her you have little or no money, if fact you have hit on bad times.

No prizes for guessing what would happen.

Money makes you more attractive as a man in Asia, but it's not a wild card you can use to get anything you want, and it's not necessary in order to find someone nice if you have other good sides. Where I live, young, capable, good looking expats usually have pretty hot local girlfriends even if they're just scraping by financially, and the most attractive girls and women who are interested in foreigners usually pick guys who are both attractive on a personal level and can support them, but they don't pick them after the size of their wallets.

Look at it this way - if a Western man REALLY hated something, like being poor, how many many of them do you think would do it anyway all the time because they liked the girl? Some wouldn't even stretch their budget 1000 bath for the evening for someone they really liked, never mind spending a life in poverty for them.

Aside from not being able to buy stuff you like, poverty in a third world country usually means you lose a lot of rights, because the official state tends to serve people with money. You get less proper medical treatment, your lifespan will probably shorten, you're much more likely to be victimized in crimes etc. People who come from poor places know this all too well, so it's not just a question of vanity and consumerism, it's about survival and happiness, and it's pretty understandable really.

  4. I guess a lot of it has been said before, but here goes. Yes, you were stupid and coming on too strong by giving her a gift and showing up at her office. And fruit in Thailand? Isn't that like giving someone ice in Antarctica? If you give a lady a gift, you're supposed to show your brains and taste in choosing something she fancies, something delicate, luxurious, imaginitive or fantastic from a far away land, to lull her in to some fantasy that coincides with the romantic fantasy you're also trying to lull her into. Don't give her something she could buy everywhere else and she's very used to. Hope you atleast didn't give her a bunch of banans.

And for God's sake skip the long explaination letter. It'll make you seem desperate. Give her a few days, and she might start to think about you. Give her a week, and hopefully she'll be thinking even more of you, your good qualities, how she hopes you don't dump her etc. That's when you give her a nonchalant message on her cellphone. Don't grovel about the mistakes you made if you meet her again. You can talk about them if she hints at them, but don't grovel. Try to forget her in the mean time, it will help you no matter what.

I can't believe all the feminist age related nonsense in this thread. Attractiveness is based on fertility and finding what appears to be a suitable partner. Women are most fertile at 18-21 after their hips have widened fully, then their fertility starts sinking like a rock in the end of their 20s, and then full or relative infertility usually occurs at 30-40. Men produce sperm unless their reproductive organs are damaged, they're dying or dead. Time is the real test of a man's caliber, if his genes and ability to take care of his children are good, while women don't have that luxury. That's why older men have liked younger women and vice versa throughout the ages. Men are universally lauded for having many partners, while women are universally shunned for it. In terms of fertility, a 41 year old man and a 26 year old woman are pretty much the same, like it or not.

  5. Just the kind of dark age WoD nonsense that makes me take my yearly 100K USD spending money elsewhere.

Whenever I drink, I like to have the possibility of lighting up a fat one. It always keeps me from blacking out when I'm drinking too hard, because it makes me drink a lot less. I also stay a lot calmer, I become nicer and I stop reacting aggressively, because like with a lot of other men, alcohol can make my temper rise quite a lot. Besides that, I do it because I want to. :-)

All light drugs should be legalized worldwide. Anyone who needs help quitting should get it. Hard drugs should be tightly controlled, but still given to those who want them. Then the excess tax money from all those billions and billions of dollars saved every year in most countries by not adopting a "war"-strategy against its own citizens can be used to help and treat some of society's most downtrodden individuals, instead of making their lives even more miserable.

  6. Since the specific case at hand was already closed, it seemed appropriate to use the attention brought to this subject to focus on slightly different sides of the same general issue. However, I now see the error in what I have done, and I sincerely apologize if you or any others might have been offended by my small, but obviously still significant deviation from the topic starters original intended area of discussion. I promise from now on to always stick to exactly whatever topic the threadstarter outlines, no matter how fruitful or interesting even the slightest deviation from the original subject might seem in the heat of the moment.

  7. I never understood why this would be such a hassle. If you're stuck in Thai immigration with no return ticket - simply phone or order a ticket from AirAsia via an internet terminal, and then you have a valid onwards ticket. If immigration require validation - simply hand the phone over to the customer rep you just ordered the ticket from, or give them a phone reference or a printout or the e-intinary of the ticket. They have plenty of tickets available for under 100 USD, especially if you're going any place, any time within a month. All you need is access to a phone/or internet terminal, and a visa-card or similar with 100 bucks in it. And who doesn't have that in 2008? And if you don't have a ticket, don't have a credit card, or you have one, but don't have 100 USD on it - then I guess you're just the kind of broke-assed tourist they were looking to weed out with that demand in the first place.

It might look like I'm plugging airasia.com now, but in fact, I'm not. However, if any representatives of prizewinning AirAsia, the only low price airline to fly from Suvarnabhumi airport, are reading this - yes, I would actually like a free gift voucher for my unwavering customer loyalty to Your esteemed Company.

  8. Couldn't locate SOTA, there's no address, and I didn't bother to trawl the whole 40.000 inhabitants place. No soi, no nothing, no wonder I didn't find it.

Anyway, there are lots of internet cafes off those two streets that run from that big street that goes straight from the gigantic phallus symbol known as the Victory Monument (complete with vigilant guards to preserve its proud erection), the one that goes by that big shopping centre. They're very cheap and quite nice, 15-20 bath per hour. Some even have comfy chairs and big, modern 21 inch screens. But I didn't find my place there before I lost interest and left.

  9. Hi Farangutan

Thanks! Dunno too much about this place, just been here two weeks. Haven't heard about that street, but I could probably ask some locals. If I can find it from the BTS station, it would be good.

If you happen to know the neighbourhood, you wouldn't know a place to work out too? Lol... Just some basic free weights, nothing fancy. Best place so far is Fitness World at Ari station, but they're a bit expensive (2700/month.. maybe not much to make a fuzz about), and I didn't like 'em that much either.

  10. Thanks for the tip, I appreciate your effort. I'm here right now, and it's a nice place. But it's not quite what I wanted, really just want a place with a nice office chair that has complete back support, like these or more comfy: http://www.everythingofficefurniture.com/exleatofchai.html Only they'll have to be el cheapo chinese versions I guess... The chairs here aren't very good, in fact. Not for typing, atleast.

    REVIEW:

Burgers are quite nice, and also quite expensive (150 bath). This place feels gay even in this gay part of town. Lots of boys/guys for hire in this quarter. If you feel don't like half of more of the customers being gay, don't come here.

Ok, it's been two hours now, and I feel all gayed up... Time to go. All in all, not a bad place, if you don't mind .... Well, you know. But I probably won't be back.

    Tomorrow I'll check out

    SOTA Internet Center

    http://www.world66.com/asia/southeastasia/...a_internet_cent

plush comfortable executive chairs Mhmmmm... and they have jumbo 19 monitors too... just waiting for the catch here. Maybe they chuck out pc-users, it's a mac place. Or the desks give out random 10000 volt electric shocks...

So stay tuned for this, perhaps the world's greatest internet cafe review series in history. Tomorrow, we shall see what the greatest internet place in Bangkok REALLY is - SOTA, or that totally gay other place.

  11. Hi all!

Travelling with my laptop PC, trying to do some work on it. I managed to get my guesthouse to give me a cafe-chair and a small table, but it really stinks to work 8 hours a day on them, my neck and shoulders are starting to kill me, and I'm eating paracetamol like candy to keep the headaches away.

I'm looking for an internet cafe with really comfy, ergonomic chairs and nice desks (ie. no elbows hanging in mid air, and good lower back support) and (bonus) a big 19-22 inch LCD-screen to plug into my laptop. You know, the kinds of soft, yet firm leather chairs that just let you sip coffee/tea/energy drinks all day while you're banging away at the keyboard, and make you feel even more relaxed when you leave in the evening than when you came in the morning. I'm at Saphan Kwai (the stop before the end of the Mo Chit skytrain line), and I'd prefer it to be close, or atleast not on the other side of town, and on the same skytrain line.

    Anyone?

  12. Frank Mir won, but still a good debut by Lesnar. He controlled the action from the start, peppered Mir with hard blows, took him down at will and achieved dominant positions on the mat. The stoppage due to rabbit punches was pretty dubious, as Mir seemed to be turning into them. Losing by submission to a former UFC champion and jiu jitsu black belt in your debut is definately nothing to be ashamed of.

    Brock will be back.

  13. Where can I watch UFC 81 live in Bangkok?

I have full access to a stream that broadcasts it live, but I don't wanna watch it alone in my room unless I have to... lol.

I have a laptop pc to log in from, so if anyone has a bigscreen TV and a (fast) internet connection, then the only thing left to do is GET IT ON. :o

I'm a nice guy btw, 290 pounds of muscle, plenty of tats and scars, and I beat two murder raps (all the witnesses died...). No seriously, I'm a decent person. :D

  14. Hi everyone,

Thanks for having me here, looks like a very informative forum. I've finally got my stuff together, and now I'm flying over to Thailand. Looking for one of these kinds of accomodation:

    1) Bangkok apartment: Smart, well located, modern and convienient 2 bedroom room apartment. 80-150 m2.

    2) Beach house: 100-200 m2, 2 bedrooms, preferably with own coastline property and/or garden.

    3) Other: Any exquisite property in LOS in my price-range, for example in the north.

I go to enjoy warmer weather, work out, live healthily, work via laptop, visit buddhist temples, sites and architecture, and ofcourse to meet wonderful thai women. :-) I don't drive and I need cleaning and laundry, but not necessarily provided by the landlords.

30.000-50.000 is my proposed budget, but if I really love a place, I'm willing to pay up to 100.000 bath/month, atleast for one month, and then get something cheaper after that.

So how to get the best possible place for my money? I've seen several really nice apartments at places like thaiapartment.com, but I'm wondering if those prices are actual prices or just what the landlord would ideally want. Could you haggle on the advertised prices if you agree to pay everything cash upfront, if there are many available apartments in that market segment? Where do you find quality residencies at the lowest price? Are people in real estate generally interested in bargaining on the rent, and how much could you persuade them to give you, say on a serviced apartment at 80.000 bath/month? Could I get it down to 50.000?

Hope someone can help, looking for any good advice.
