The elevator is a necessary equipment to transport passengers in the building.

The pool is for recreation and socialising.

I'm sure person's responsible in the building are doing what they can to put in some rules to maintain safety for most everybody and not just a selfish few.

As I understand it, it is up to the building management as to whether the pools are open or not.

Maintaining, cleaning and staffing the pools costs them money.

Now, why are the pools closed?

Not really. No-one is ever fined 500,000 or jailed. Just posturing and totally meaningless.

It is just another official bumping his gums, and getting on the telly so everyone knows he is important.

Working out what they really mean is like listening to short wave radio - you have to filter out lots of extraneous noise before you can get the actual message!

My guess is the government coffers are empty, that is why prayut is out with the begging cup. Surely there would be enough money to help the Thai people if they reallocated the money meant for submarines???

Aren't the Submarines being paid for on the "never never" - I'm sorry, I meant by successive tranches of funding in various financial years.

In other words, they don't have the cash.

It strikes me that the same is true for many if not all of the extravagant infrastructure and facility proposals made over the last five years. They seem always to be in "the final stages of negotiation", "awaiting financial backing", " work is due to start next year". I rather suspect ( we will never know and would love to be proved wrong) that the outgoings from the exchequer, to fund a bloated armed forces with unchecked shopping lists, seemingly unaudited and unaccountable state enterprises and any  number of lifestyles, business opportunities and overseas investments leaves little if anything to spare when something like this pandemic comes along.

I find this very good news to read. Whatever the monetary sums end up being you can believe that at least some will get to the people who need it mSo we have to acknowledge and appreciate, thank and give credit to the donors for providing such funds. Long may this generosity continue!!

To the people on here who already are sarcastically criticising, making derogatory remarks, scoffing at the hand outs and generally showing disrespect to the donors. My message to you is that fortunately for the needy Thai population your mean mouthed words mean absolutely nothing to the donors and thankfully will not change one action of what is going to happen in the coming weeks. Quite frankly why be mean mouthed on this site and show your true character. If you do not like what is happening here in LOS then move to another country!!

Why all the padding - just say it man: " If you don't like it just go home"!

"Quite frankly" I find your naivity, coupled with a supine acceptance that "Whatever the monetary sums end up being you can believe that at least some will get to the people who need it most." ( therefore accepting that much of it will be skimmed off ) as disturbing as you find those people criticising that "mealy mouthed"

Judging by various reports there have been large queues at outlets for booze, so obviously plenty of Thais aren't hurting for cash, just yet!!

There again, many, perhaps most, are small retailers, buying to stock their businesses. I somehow doubt that many "ordinary Thais" are in Makro buying in bulk...

Just a question. Seems strange that some random governor can choose to continue ban. On what basis. Safety of his flock or perhaps an anti booze issue, or wanting to be his own man with swagger, or religion.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Wanting to be his own man with swagger. As has been pointed out, it is up to each governor to decide. Enjoying a drink is pretty well a universal experience, whether it be a shot of Lao Know whilst sitting on a mat or an expensive cognac in a hotel lounge. The power to say nay or yeah to people being able to enjoy that near universal experience is probably as intoxicating as the booze itself. I really think that it is as simple as that.

It is interesting that several posters have said that the Thais expect the ban to be reimposed soon. I would be fascinated to know why they think so - my Thai is far too inadequate to pick up such nuances! I wonder, do they think it is for genuine reasons to help with controlling the pandemic, or do they realise that they have been cut a bit of slack and the whip will be cracked soon, bringing them under control for controls sake?

This is why case numbers and mortality rates are so low in Thailand. Everyone here is full of disinfectant.

Chilindo - the auction site - have sent me a delivery. I ordered 9 small items, 8 of the items in the box were totally wrong! However, one of the items in the box is some sort of UV light. With that and a box of Chang, I will be good to go!

So is Prayuth attempting to go to war with the elites of the country?...

Or is he just projecting power over the people because he can??

OR.... Is he projecting power over the elites AND the people???

    who knows.

I think that he has got himself into a right mess.

The power structure for this regime is complicated. He is not an absolute dictator, he depends upon a variety of groups to keep him in power. One of those groups are the provincial governors and their administrations. They are not elected, but appointed by his government. He depends on them to control their provinces, in line with central government policies.

When he assumed 100% control at the start, some details were left to the provincial governors. That is why the various "booze bans" were all for different periods. This was their chance to show that they too had power, and were going to use it. The provincial governors then adjusted the bans so that they were all singing from the same hymn sheet. Prayut cannot overrule them, without causing them to lose face - he dare not do that because he relies on them to control the country.

He is also probably in bad odour with the brewery moguls, and also many other big influential concerns who will be losing money because of his actions. This is a risk for him, but backing down and allowing them to have their way will cause such a big loss of face to him that it would quite possibly fatally damage him as Prime Minister.  What is more they told him to go away when he was asking for money to support the government earlier this week, so he may have the hump with them - silly man.

In a muddle, way out of his depth. The sad thing is, the big brewery moguls will ride out the storm, the people whose livelihoods depend upon making, transporting, wholesaling and selling booze may well not.

Many will go to the wall because of these battles to save face and wield power.

I'm from Somerset too and I totally agree, all the other chedders just don't taste the same...

I too am from Somerset - I find the Mainland Cheddar quite satisfactory, in particular when combined with my home made cider - which the present situation has caused me to take up ptoducing!

If I were you I would hang on to the hope that there is enough left over by then, after various troughs have been filled and refilled, to give you a refund.

Let's face it, with all the umh, outstanding commitments to be met, and little chance of any revenue over the coming months, they will probably be asking for more in July!
