    Seems sensible enough.

Although I just can't seem to workout what makes places like Italy and New York so vicious in regards to the virus yet Thailand has had IMMENSE exposure and barely did anything to stop it other than a loose stay-at home order, hand gel, and masks.

I red a day or two ago about a study in China, that out of 300-something spreading events only one was outside air, others inside - mostly home spreading to family and public transportation. I think that (people in Thailand spending a lot of time in outside air, not a lot of public transportation outside of BKK), with Vitamin D from sun exposure, masks, and hot air must have a huge effect. Plus absolutely a great thing that you'll stay in hospital until testing negative, reduces a lot of probable infection hotspots forming.

I tend to agree that the weather and proximity to the equator has something to do with it, but how do you explain countries with similar weather and latitude having way higher infections?

    Air-conditioning?

I think you'll find a hell of a lot of Thais are home already, having lost their jobs when the lockdown closed many, many workplaces, leading to massive unemployment.

Yes, certainly in this village (and the same is true, I'm sure, all over the country), there are many faces around that one only sees a couple of times a year, typically New Year or Sonoran.

Netanyahu's plan to annex West Bank is similar to Putin's Annexation of Crimea and continuous war on East Ukraine. Horrific and illegal actions.

It's time for the rest of the world to place very heavy sanctions against Israel. Ban their travel, stop trade with Israel and freeze Israel's and people of Israel assets around the world.

Rather like they have with Putin's Russia then?

Oh goodie, the mist boring ‘sport’ in the world, where games don’t last minutes or hours, but whole days. How have we managed to survive during lockdown without cricket?

Well personally, I have been watching highlights of some great matches on YouTube - often with a glass of home made cider ( I'm getting quite good at making it), and slices of apple and New Zealand Cheddar!

The Somerset County Cricket Club channel has been a great comfort...

No news on where he (the leader of the free world and revolutionary epidemiologist) suggests the UV light should be inserted? If all else fails I could suggest some" access points"!

NYC has had 11,000 Covid deaths.

Tokyo, the World's largest and densest city, has had 93.

    NYC is locked down.

    Tokyo was never locked down.

Both have had the virus for the same amount of time.

Why is NYC's death rate 250 times higher than Tokyo's? Just saying...

I'll hazard a guess - and this may upset some - perhaps New York City has many more vulnerable people with immune systems compromised by obesity, poor diet, (diabetes etc.) and a less effective or certainly less comprehensive (social or socialist according to your point of view) health system. These two things may lead to many more "pre - existing conditions" which both compromise the immune system and inhibit access to healthcare.

  7. Some may accuse me of being unduly cynical, but I wouldn't mind betting (were it legal) that a whole new regime will emerge. Reopening permits, suitability assessments, regular checks on procedures and precautions. Obviously influence, as understood by officialdom, will play a large part in gaining a place on the initial list of businesses allowed to re-open, but no doubt there will soon be a whole range of informal fiscal arrangements open to those who lack sufficient influence...

  8. Although I have carried such a laminated copy around with me in my wallet for years, the only document I have ever been asked for is (on a couple of occasions) my driving licence.

I also keep a picture on my phone.

As a matter of fact, some years ago when the subject was undergoing one of it's regular airings on this forum, and being in the immigration office, I asked. The officer I asked, who had just (literally) pocketed the fee for a letter confirming my address for the driving licence people said I had to, as "I was a foreigner". His younger colleague followed me outside, and said not to bother, a picture on my phone would suffice!

The minister said that he would set up a committee to investigate the matter which would take around two weeks.

Two weeks to set up a committee then two years to run the investigation before concluding there is no case to answer.

The investigation will take 2 weeks and cost 3 million baht

And that, as they say, is the rub. Even with a case of such blatant corruption as this, it will either be swamped with bureaucratic inertia, or used as an opportunity to steal even more money, Whichever route is taken, or perhaps even a combination, it will be simply another exercise in utterly blatant corruption. These people are utterly shameless. The motivation is always not how can we stop this from happening again, and bring the perpetrators to justice, but how can we ensure we get (or increase) our share.

Kim this dictator treats the North Korean people worse than dogs, we are certain that there are concentration camps worthy of the Nazis but this dear President Trump declares himself on good terms with this bandit of Kim.

Trump supporters obviously find that completely normal. They will probably tell you that they prefer Kim to Obama.????

Well, he is distinctly "whiter", and therefore rather more their sort of chap...

Keen on guns ( and burgers) too, or so I read.

    What"s not too like?

First place I had a beer in Bangkok. Buckskin Joes. Soi 0 ????

Yes, first bar I ever went into too! Stayed in the old "Golden something" hotel on Soi 1.

I remember sitting sipping a beer one night down there when a British Army Band marched down the strip playing full blast, turned round and marched back up! In full kit, (except for headdress). One of the Foot Guards Regiments I think. Officer in front looked a bit embarrassed! I presume that they had been performing at the (relatively) nearby British Embassy, and did it for a bit of a laugh.

Oh, he does not suppress, he is a much better interpreter of the message than those who spoke the words.

You do not appreciate his interpreting skills, his ability to articulate, clarify and distill complex messages.

His role as an epidemiologist is much underplayed, along with his humility.

Beside all that, true as it may be, isn't "the fall" when he is due to be re-elected? Can't have anything diverting from that glorious moment. Back in your box Mr CDC Director Robert Redfield , what do you know about these matters anyway?

Um... did the Commerce Dept check today’s Baht overpricing?  Here we go again.  The Baht is at a six week high.  Thai industry and exports will die off, just like tourism.  Wuhan virus and an overpriced Baht will do immeasurable harm to this country.

Much of the world is teetering on the edge of a depression/already in one.

Property prices will fall, and other investment opportunities will open up and a strong Baht will be jolly important to those influential people who take an interest in such matters. Don't expect their possible forthcoming bonanza to be interfered with!
