Young wife, long life.

I have a Syndome ECO II, Power Rating: 2200 VA / 1320 W. I have a PC, 2 monitors, router, True Visions box, and TV connected to it. It will supply power for about 30 minutes when the power goes out. I comes with software that I installed on the PC to monitor the UPS and I set it to shutdown the PC after 15 minutes. I had to put in a new battery after 2 1/2 years, I got it at IT City for 7,900 baht. There are cheaper ones with a lower power rating.

My wife owns 3 stores, a convience store, pet mart and a hardware store. She works a lot - takes up most of her time. But, she makes over 500,000 baht a month. 14 years ago, I financed her to get started with the convience store. Within 2 years she paid me back and went on to open the other 2 stores with her profits. I'm really lucky to have her.

The reason I asked is my US credit card will expire next month. The last time my card was up for renewal, the bank refused to send me a new one because I live in Thailand. They thought I was a security risk. After a few calls and complaining, they sent me a new card. So, I am exploring alternatives in case they won't send me a new card this time.

Thank you for your experiences. I appreciate it. I haven't decided yet if I will get one or not.

Does anyone have experience with using a Bangkok Bank ATM Card or Credit Card to buy things online in the US? I would like to know if it works before I go the trouble of getting the card(s) set up. Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies. I should have stated that my O-A visa is based on retirement.
A year or so ago I asked Immigration what the requirement were for marriage visa. One of the requirements was two witnesses from our village. My wife and I were not comfortable with dragging two people down to immigration. So, we decided not to do that.
So last year, I applied for extension on November 1, 1 day after the October 31 deadline. The IO agent approved my extension but said when I get insurance to bring in the paper from the insurance company. But two insurance companies denied me insurance because I had cancer a few years before.
So it seems that I won't need insurance because I'm 76 years old. I remember reading somewhere that several people over 75 applied for an extension and did not need insurance. But I don't know if it was in Korat or not. I'll contact immigration to see what they say. -
I have an O-A Visa, 76 years old and cannot get medical insurance. I have to renew my Permission to Stay this month in Korat. Will I have a problem renewing it without insurance?

I would also prefer a box where you can pause live tv, rewind and see whenever you want and having the option to record on the box.
Had this in the UK with the BT box.
You can get a PVR option with True and attach a hard drive to it. I have it and record many programs that I can watch later. I can also pause live TV, rewind, and resume.

So stores will have to close earlier than 10pm so that employees can travel home before 10pm?

I emailed SSA in Manila three times in the last three weeks asking about changing my address and still have not received a reply. Guess I'll have to call them.

Is there such a thing as a book written for Westerners learning Thai script or should I simply ask my wife to write down a list of characters and their associated sounds?
Try http://thai-language.com/ and http://www.learningthai.com/thai_alphabet.html
They have good sections on learning Thai script

They are doing a petition and email campaign to try to keep the office open. Go to the forum and check out the details.

Is the tax return going to a PO Box? If so, sending it registered won't work. There is nobody there to sign for it. I make that mistake once sending my tax return registered to a PO Box, and it was returned as undeliverable.
Also, my wife said the most all the Post Offices are closed for Songkran from day 12 to 15, so you may have trouble finding one that is open.
