Apparently the bank book is not enough right now, at least not for the border with Malaysia.

To the OP: Carry the 20'000 on you to be on the safe side.
I need a new entry stamp for my non-B visa next week, and the visa service I always use demands everybody to have the cash these days. 3 months ago a copy of the bank book was still enough.

A friend of mine from Phangan went last week for his yearly extension (marriage). Handed in all his papers early moring, completed some missing stuff. Was told by the '2nd in command' to come back 3 hours later. So he came back at 3PM and was told all papers OK. Unfortunately they couldn't give him the signature because 'the boss must sign and is not here, so please come back in seven days to get your signed extension'! My friend was mightily pissed off!

If you only go out with Thais for 'honey' than that's the truth. Some people go out with Thais for other reasons.

Yeah sure. I love to go out with the local fisherman and have a chat about classic greek literature, Sartre's existentialism or the price of wine in Chile.

Ok So bit lazy too ask google before - B2B bookstores stock 4 models of Kindle in Thailand - yes more expensive not least because of duty & VAT . But thats why at least Kindle would try and support their presumably sales agent - with an interest so see Thai language books in wide circulation.
Whilst falang not possibly want to read a Kindle in sun - the Thais will love to - they don't because just not enough Kindles to read with yet for sure?
You know Thais that like to stay in the sun and even read in the sun? Must be aliens in disguise!

I read/heard that the (small) geckos don't eat mossis, but I'll happily stand corrected because I love the little buggers (thoug not their droppings!).

As we always say here :
- get yourself a bungalow for a few days - I'd suggest Maenam area (unless you're a party/barladies guy, then you'd prefer Chaweng/Lamai/)
- rent a motorbike and check the area for a place you might like long-term. You should get quite a discount at this time of the year..
P.S. A little secret advice: One can often get 20-30% discount when putting the cash on the table.(But check the premises carefully first!)

There is no german speaking ghetto on Samui and I think we're all glad about that (even we Germans/Swiss/Austrians = GSA).
There is a fair amount of GSA in Maenam/Ban Thai/Bang Por and also in Lamai. But even there you'll meet your occasional russian parvenu as you call them.
'Der Farang' is a german newspaper (also online) based in Pattaya, which has normally 1 or 2 pages per issue dedicated to Samui.
Hope that helps.

The only place you can get the multiple entry non-b visa is at the consulate in Penang Malaysia. Your work permit must be valid for at leas 8 months to get it.
I get mine from Kota Baru consulate.

Thanks for the story and especially the info about your Q-ticket-numbers, vitally important indeed for my next visit at HKG immigration.
BTW I got ticket number 47 today at the local post office when buying stamps. Hope that helps.
Sorry but I just couldn't resist.

When is this situation going to be sorted out by the Army. The situation with the police in Samui is an open secret, if you want to open a business in Samui, you have to pay the police! They demand money from every shopkeeper on this island, selling legitimate or illegitimate merchandise. If they can't get the store for 'copyright' infringements they go for the work permits of the employees. Either way it is impossible to operate a business in Samui without paying the police. This is not a secret, it is common knowledge. So get it sorted!!
Absolute 100% pure BS!

I totally understand the ban for ferry/train passengers, we all remember the countless atrocities committed by passengers who had a beer or two.
On the other side are all those poor drunken car/taxi/bus drivers and boat captains (I remember 2 occasions where the Raja ferry captain was apparently totally drunk at 5 AM, needing several attempts to moor the ferry at Don Sak in calm weather) who kill a few thousand people every year.
Just a matter of priorities.

This stuff:
You empty the little sachet into the trap, leave it somewhere they'll find it, and watch as they industriously carry the poison bit by bit back to their nest, the tiny fools.
yes, that's the only stuff that works longtime (months)., except for the red ants. And yes I have problems finding it when I need it, 7/11s, family marts, Tescos, often they don't have it. But at least they always the horrible sprays .

This shows again that the police know quite well what's going on 'out there in the jungle'.
Best outcome is the killers will be identified and maybe even go to jail (if the police are not directly involved).
Just a shame that even if they know who is the 'mastermind' he/she wont be prosecuted because of all the known reasons.

Bizarre statements - the mind boggles

What is a volunteer police officer, never heard of such (except foreigners in tourist police)?
-
Absolutely shocking if true! Stabbed in the stomach and slit the throat, for a few hundred baht?! And one of the guys in the reenactment picture even seems to have a jolly good time laughing.
Looks like the general disregard and derogatory comments about Burmese (as taught in Thai schools and reinforced by police and parents/general populace) had some effect!
And at the end the boys will probably only get a slap on their hands because they're 18 or under.

Now I'm definitely gonna try it then!
You can get in Sweden bar, soi Rasta bar, Chaweng beach road.
A swedish pizza with kebab and sauce bernaise at Sweden bar in soi Rasta bar, probably served by a Thai, that's what I call international!
P.S.: Still not sure I'd wanna try it

Of course she was killed by her burmese boyfriend. No Thai person would ever commit an act like this. It is simply out of character for them. The police on Samui are so fabulously incompetent, it is hard to imagine them actually engaging in detective or forensic work.
You seem to believe that that Burmese are not capable of murder. Newsflash for you, in Nathon alone there were several murders Burmese on Burmese in the last 3 years. Believe me you don't want to cross a Burmese after he had some whiskeys, especially not the fishermen, they are every bit as dangerous as drunk Thais.
And apparently the burmese women can be as jealous as the Thais.
Seems to me also the RTP did quite a good job here, same as in other cases I know personally where they found the perpetrators fast (even if they were Thais, shock). Even if their forensic/CSI capabilities really suck.
Do you still believe in Father Christmas?
Thank you for your incredibly valuable and informative answer.

Songserm and Seatran both have car ferry.... all close by.... I would try and choose Seatran over Songserm.
Advanced booking would have probably been better, especially as someone pointed out above, it's Chinese New year period ...
Good luck!
Songserm and Seatran have car ferries KPG to Don Sak, really?
