When I was nominated for poty, I did not wish to be a candidate and asked for my name to be removed, I was told that it was not possible to do that. Having said that craig chose to remove himself for whatever reason, I care not one jot.
The candidates we have left seem to be taking this very amicably, not like some of the voters, I guess they must be feeling very uncomfortable at the moment. Can't we go along with this without all the carping, after all it's supposed to be a bit of fun.
I had no idea I was in this until 2 days ago. Those in the final running should be asked first before proceeding. IMHO.
We have many, many good members here. Sadly, a few bad ones that tend to ruin it.

You do not have our permission to do so! Plus you've been around TVF long enough to understand that negative posts from idiots is part of the landscape, ignore them and continue.
I've been threatened several times and had personal details published. One reason I quit as a mod. Not worth it.
Sorry and thanks to those who voted for me.

Please vote for Colinneil. Thank you.

Yep practiced family medicine for 30 years. We knew this a long time ago. It was hard to get this point across to patients. Sadly they "paid the price."
I use to work with a very large lady. Saw her downing 1/4 gallon of ice cream one day. I asked if that was a good thing. Her reply? "It's diet ice cream."! LOL

Craig, you're on.
Based on how many negative posts have been made here, I'm very reluctant to participate.

Perhaps give Colin until 9 am Thai time and if no usable and qualifying response, move on to Craig?
I'm shy. LOL

What type of guitar do you play? I'm acoustic. Guitar and mandolin. Bluegrass, Irish, etc. Love it!
Ears got blown out as a teen playing rock n roll. LOL
Edit: that's my 1965 Gibson ES-345 stereo in the case there. Sold it a number of years ago when short on cash. Terrible mistake.

It is common knowledge Craig was a mod.
It is also common knowledge he is extremely helpful.
And sometimes it comes out in my posts. One a mod....
One reason I became a mod was to give back to a community that helped me so much when I first moved here. TVF was extremely helpful. And through that, I met many, many very nice people. A recent one being @simple1
We've got many fine members here. And a forum that's helpful to many.

Looks like Craig will be touched on the shoulders by the sword this year then .....
If so, I'm lucky. If not, I sure hope Colinneil wins. I may not agree with all his posts, but his fortitude in light of adversity is impressive. Hats off to him.

no investment research on weekends when the kitchen is exclusively mine and i can compose undisturbed culinary delicacies listening to classical music of Verdi or Puccini.
And during the week you're wife composes some of her dishes? Lucky man.

If nothing else, I could live with "Taco-Bell". But where? (haven't been in town for almost a year, so I am not "up to date").
Can you give location(s)? Approximately.
Where is JT when you need him?
Thx &cheers.
Having lived in the American SW for most of my life, I avoided Taco Bell like the plague. Too many better places to eat. But! Here in Thailand, I'd visit there for sure!!!! LOL

I find this troubling on many levels. Legally she does not own the street, but morally, she is trying to make a living and parking a pickup in front of her shopfront can affect her sales. She does not seem to be particularly wealthy and I would suspect that she, like many small shop owners, is hoping to make enough to make ends meet.
I would politely ask her if I could park there, and if she agreed, would probably buy a couple bottles of her cooking oil as I got ready to leave.
And I would not even consider videoing the encounter and using my limited Thai to call her names. Just not a very classy response.
Perfect post. Calling somebody ting tong is over the top. It's a horrible thing to call somebody else. Unless you know them very well and they understand you are just kidding.

I am wondering if there is any REAL wine for less than 500 thb / bottle in Thailand ? Any idea ?
Thanks.
I've yet to see a decent bottle available for under 500B. 650B is about the cheapest "good" wine I've found. Back home, that bottle would be about 200B.

Just drove straight through the Samed park entrance. Army guys dealing with a big group of Chinese tourists. I will donate 40 B (Thai fee) on my way out
Please don't. It's not a national park. Just a way to scam tourists out of money.

I got stung for the full price at Koh Lipe. What a joke. The interior of the island is full of trash, the beaches are chock a block with resorts, the beaches are jammed with longtail boats, and that silly walking street....paradise ruined.
Wifey argued with them, but no luck. 200B to tour an island covered in trash and packed with resorts. NOT a national park.

Love it!

Thanks. I don't know that place. I would agree the Chinese food options are better in Bangkok, of course. But it amazes me how much better the scene has gotten here and also how rare it is to see westerners at the better places here. Yes, it takes effort dealing with the menus, but for those that like Chinese food, it's worth it.
Your efforts here are fantastic. I read every post and have gone to many recommend here. A huge THANKS!
I'm in a bit of a difficult position as my wife is an amazing cook. She's been to over 70 countries and routinely makes dishes that come from her travels. My HK friends are both amazing chefs also. So when we do go out, it's got to be good! LOL

To add can you please mention the place you found overpriced and horrible? Good chance we would agree but even if not that info on your opinion could be useful to readers.
Be clear our major point of disagreement isn't about that such places exist but that there are exceptions. The price thing is harder though as the Chinese food here is usually not cheap. But I'm cool with not cheap if good.
Sent from my Lenovo A7020a48 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
It was near the tiger park on Sukhumvit. Went with our friends from Hong Kong. According to them, the best Chinese food is in Bangkok.

You don't get out much then. Pattaya is a tourism city. There is a huge social media scene only for Chinese and Indians. Some of these places are doing better quality and seeking repeat customers.
Be nice. You know I get out a lot. The absolute worst restaurants I've tried have been oriented to tourists. Foreigners who live in the city aren't tourists.
Just ate at one the other day. Over priced and horrible.

Well, in this case you might be right about avoiding it because it was clear from the ads that it's a very EXPENSIVE restaurant.
But as far all local Chinese restaurants targeting Chinese tourists (independent ones rather than bus buffets) I totally disagree with you. Some of the best Chinese restaurants in town fit that description now but of not all of them are good and reasonably priced. But SOME are.
In fact, THANKS to the boom in Chinese tourism now, it now can be said Pattaya has a number of quite decent Chinese food choices and their existence is clearly the reason for that. Similar to the boom in Indian restaurants. Not all of them good of course, but the huge scene wouldn't exist without Indian tourist masses.
I've rarely found restaurants catering exclusively to tourists to be any good. No repeat customers, under the table payments to get customers in, etc.
The best ones cater to locals primarily.

Chinese. That wasn't obvious? The only thing on the signs using roman letters is the name -- YIPINLOU.
I'd avoid it like the plague. Oriented towards Chinese tourists.

I didn't pull out before. I was entered into it without my knowledge. Again. And at the time I was a mod. So management pulled me out. I was very happy with that decision.
After the abuse here. I quit as a mod.
