Entry requirements August, 2022
RickFarang posted a topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My brother will visit in October. In years past I read reports of people being denied entry into Thailand because they did not have 20,000 baht or equivalent in another currency in cash. 20,000 baht or U.S. $600 is a lot of cash be carrying around and does not sound like a good idea to me. Is there any news about this? Thank you in advance -
Undoubtedly to eventually be retrofitted with facial recognition software.

I would not take such important advice from a bunch of strangers over the internet, even though some have a lot of experience and a great batting record when I can easily contact the Immigration office or Consulate that will process the application. That saves a lot of worry and doubt provided that the advice from Immigration or the Consulate makes sense... -
Udon Thani Immigration
RickFarang replied to DaveCW's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I've been using the Udon Thani Immigration service since they came back to Udon, which was even before they moved into the police station complex. I have never had an problem with them, though I have learned to ask, on my last 90 day report prior to extending that I should ask if there are any changes from the previous years. Yeah, the 100 baht thing is the only bit that keeps them from being ideal from my point of view, but having been to other immigration offices in the years before Immigration came back to Udon I realize that Udon Thani Immigration is far better than most if not all others. -
Big C in Udon Thani is limiting cooking oil sales to 3 bottles per person as gaps are starting to appear on the oil shelves, at least for the less expensive oils.

Arrived in Thailand and told to use Morchana app (by law)
RickFarang replied to cyril sneer's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
You can always buy a new phone and SIM card, install the application on your new phone and then leave it home or at your hotel when you go out. By the way, whether the information is used or not, most of us with cell phones are being tracked by the phone companies. There have been stores in the news that mentioned that the sought person was located by looking where his cellphone had been. -
Confirm 800,000฿ in bank
RickFarang replied to PaulDee's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Well, not total nonsense. People are always trying to game the system and Immigration is trying to catch them. Those who strictly follow the rules make the rest of us pay. It also increases the burden on the immigration officers who probably would prefer that things we much easier. -
Overstay or 7 Day Stamp
RickFarang replied to MICHAELDUTCH's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
From https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand-visa/visa-overstay-thailand (I do not know who publishes this site, but the information is consistent with what Immigration has said in the past.) If you are caught in Thailand as an overstaying foreigner you will be detained and face punishment. However, if you leave Thailand as an overstaying foreigner without being caught you will only face a fine and possible ban from re-entering Thailand, depending on the length of your overstay, when exiting through immigration control at the airport or land border, and will not face any imprisonment or detainment. As you can face detainment and imprisonment even when overstaying by just one day, it is important to avoid getting caught or being questioned by police, and resolving your overstay issues as soon as possible. On occasions, immigration police will do random checks on foreign nationals on entertainment centers, on the street and some checkpoints. -
A large gathering making a lot of noise? The police might be interested in shutting it down. Living across from the new train station in Bangkok, where over a hundred tuk-tuks would wake us up around 06:00 we didn't get much sleep because the bars in front of our building. Complaining to the police, they told us to call them if it was too loud after 02:00 (AM). It worked many times as we were able get over 3 hours of sleep each night!

I had 2 AZ and 2 PF. When do I need a booster?
RickFarang replied to pauleddy's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Why do you think you need a booster? Because the drug companies and their paid shills tell you that you do? -
Thai Alternative/Brand for Lysine Ointment? (Cold Sores)
RickFarang replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Health and Medicine
Shop your local pharmacies for Lysine tablets which are now in Thailand. Far superior to creams. In the meantime eat plenty of Lysine rich foods such as cheese.
