  1. HI all I have never been to singapore I think you should send your stories to CNN and BBC news and let them report on world news. I recommend anderson cooper 360. quote name='oakweb' timestamp='1281798941' post='3816018']

I too remember no problems the other two times I went to Singapore with my fiancé, very nice custom officials. But the attitude I saw being given out at the desk, and also what the AirAsia employee had told us was an increase in Thai's being returned, this makes me believe that this is something that is happening now and is a new situation. The European girl being given a hard time about the old passport, and the other Thais my girlfriend met that from what they said also never had any problem in the country or visiting before. It makes me think that this issue is just a growing problem at the Airport, bad management, or some policy gone awry. We have friends that live there that say there are never these problems at the Bus border crossings.

Why doesn't Singapore do the VISA process like all the other places do? Why wait for the traveler to go all the way there, and then refuse them? It's just stupid, and the fact they do it with large numbers of travelers every day makes me angry. The fact they profile Thai girls like they do, also makes me angry. It's amazing to me that customs does not care that a Farang traveler to Singapore is not sufficient enough to guarantee a Thai girl into the country.

@Benjie never arrested, never a problem, remember we visited there twice before no problem. USA Visas are the most difficult to get in the world for Thai nationals. And usually once you have a USA Visa, getting other

    VISAs are easier.

    @QED I'm 45 and my fiancé is 32.

@balo I have no idea if they would let her in if I was of cooler head, but they can kiss my ass anyways and I hope the next Farang they take on with a Thai girlfriend they will think twice before interrogating them.

Good news on my side is even though the reservation I made through American Express said 100% non refundable for the room, after speaking with a Supervisor I was given a full refund.

I started my phone call to them by saying, "My fiancé was refused entry into Singapore since she was too sexy". They were quite accommodating. Makes me think they have seen this problem as well.

I appreciate all the feedback and posts about this, it makes me feel that we are a rather large community now. It's not my first time traveling with a Thai girl. I married my first Thai wife almost 16 years ago. 16 years ago there just were not that many guys with Thai wives/girlfriends as there are now.

  2. Hey i'm off to Phuket next week, should i be worried about these warnings? Planning on going to most off the tourists places, clubs malls beaches etc. Also going to Pattaya and Ko Samui to head to the full moon party and probably spend a few days in bangkok to finish up, i was excited about the trip but after reading this travel warning not so much now.

DO NOT RENT JET SKIS!!! USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! STAY AWAY FROM FULL MOON PARTY ( drugs are predominant and very illegal in thailand) be very aware of

do be very aware of whats going on around you. buy a doorknob lock that fits on your doorknob and is secured by a lock. that way if a girl wants to rip you

off she cannot get out nor can she let someone in.:):jap::rolleyes:

  3. Perhaps True is experiencing financial problems??

My issue was with them wanting to charge me to re-align my TV satellite dish (their equipment) after a storm.

Seems someone in my other thread mentioned they didn't have to pay for re-alignment in the past.

I just dropped them. Wasn't too thrilled with their programming to begin with.

    hello

suggest you contact the ntc it is a very good consumer protection board. they have a weg site, speak english.and are more than willing to help.

they ,if needed, wiil actualy go and talk with the people you are having problems with.

it sounds like they are trying to extort money from you.

    hope this helps,mrsmithbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifsmile.gif

  4. As they say follow the Money. Take the money away the problem will be solved. I am surprised it took them so long to stop the transfer of money. Also I think the Government should allow everyone who has suffered financial losses because of these people who fund these terrorist and their disruptions to sue for all the damages. It will take care of the money these people have so they are not able to destroy this country ever again

there will not be peace,Taksins objective is to have thai fight thais until the whole country is embroiled in civil

war. then when that is done ,cambodia will invade thailand! thais will be so busy fighting each other that it will be a piece of cake. guess who will ride into thailand on a tank? claiming thailand as his own and himself

    as supreme ruler ?

Who wants to dispose the monarchy? and the ultimate aim of the udd supports this. even they don't

about the up coming war with thaitland and cambodia.

  5. hi,for those close to surawong road, you can go to the roadhouse.its on the same side as patpong.just walk up to the main road, keeping patpong on your right.you can't miss it!good food good price, all the trimmings and lots of seating on 2 floors and entertainment.last time we were some guy ws doing the"who".have a nice thanksgiving!!! :):D:D

Agree bourbon street, I too can not recall what they charge.

Madrid you are correct no charge for the food, but get there early, the place is small. If you are going with a family not the place to go, to hard to get a table, last year ended up sitting outside

  6. hi i think that they are 1. here illegaly 2 part of a gang who have been preying on people at atm machines 3 engaged in some illegal activity.

i am the only foreigner living in my building ,and one guy who, whenever i have my door propped open ,gets up and closes his door, strange :) mrsmith

Met a guy a couple of years ago who did exactly as in the original post. He tried to get me into calling clients. Apaprently they got hold of lists of people owning share of a particular stock and told them there would be a split or similar and they have to pay up some money in order to get them...

Another couple of companies have been selling stuff via phone to other countries and then never paid the sales staff..

Today in the same building as our office there is one unit fully occupied with phillipinos. They are very careful not to exit or enter when anyone else is passing their door.. Not sure what they are doing..

  7. question; did michael travel to thailand with a group or a friend? did he have sufficent monetary funds or a credit card

to use? did he contact family upon arrival or before departing thailand? had he been to thailand before?

if he had a credit card, the cc company would show the location of the atm he used.

most people who use a cc usualy use one close to where they were staying.

i have looked at a few thai newspapers, and not seen his picture posted.

did michael check in at the airport?

    thanks,mr smith

  8. :)hi here is a real story that might relate to your problem of no job seekers: i am married to a thai

lady, who has a sister with 2 sons 26 and 27. the younger son has a liscense as a tour guide, one day

he was complaining about no work. i went online and found a tour company on silom road.i called them and told them about my wifes sisters son who was a tour guide.asked if they were hiring, and they said yes, tell him to come by and bring his li

cense. i then took all the info (who to see, where to go,etc.when i told the son;his reply was no thanks!!

the other son got a job with ppet ,but is unhappy that he has to start at the bottom, and cannot start out as manager/boss making big money.

  9. :):D hi the narai is the best for bkfst, linch and dinnerlots of thai and farang fare+decent prices. they are on silom road. happy eating!!!

OK my 4 year old had gotten a thing going for Sunday breakfast buffet. We've tried Siam City Hotel which is good – but 650 baht. (not sure if they charge for him). What's a good (OK great doesn't matter he's 4) breakfast buffet that's cheap? Kids eat free is great since he wants to bring a friend along. Close to Lumpini is a plus because we've got to see how the lizards are doing as well.

I usually go to the Travel Fayre's in Bangkok and pick up really good cheap tickets for buffets.

I have been to The Eastin and The Raddison as well as Ramada on Suriwong.

Eastin was great but not much of the good old Roast Beef (mostly Thai food, maybe as a conference with a lot of Thais was on at the same time).

The Raddidon was nice, and even met Peter Reid. (not much in the way of sweets)

Ramada was excellent, good choice and loads of good food, cakes as well.

  10. :):D hi you can take your xbox to sapan lek, they can fix it for you. you will need somebody who can speak thai. hope this works, rsmith

  11. hi all, as of april 17,all banks in thailand now charge a fee to use your foreign atm cards.

the fee for transactions are 150 baht. thai citizens are not charged unless they us a atm that is

different from the bank where they have an account; but if they use it at a different atm more than

3 times they are charged 5 baht!!! :o

  12. :o hi all

i am looking for a company who makes small motorized trikes 125cc and up,or makes a conversion kit.

I don't want a big trike such as harley etc. I will be using it around roi-et. also has to be able to

carry 1or2 passengers. i have seen some small ones in bkk,but owner cannot speak english.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,james

  13. This topic will probably get moved to the Technology subforum but I'll answer now:

hi ,if you live in bkk,go to fortune tower at pra ram cau and go toi think the 3rd floor.there is a booth where

a guy that sells used equipment including amps ,recievers, speakers etc.you can probably find what you are looking for. hope this helps.you can phone me at 0875923969

There is an American here who was/is manufacturing speakers made from granite (search the said subforum above for details..I remember a conversation about him with his website link 1+ years ago). As far as I know he didn't make amps though.

The only amps I know made in Thailand are valve amps (15-30 watts) by TS Audio. There are various others too which kind of look DIY. If I were you I would hunt out the second-hand shops where you will most definitely find excellent monos (transistor and valve) by Asian, American and European manufacturers. If that's of interest to you and you're in Bangkok, PM me.

  14. Hi mick i am using firefox, and ais.i experence a lot of dropped calls, when you get that error message you will probably find your connection has been disconnected.just click connect, and it should reconnect.the engineers at ais cannot explan why.

also up-date to latest version of firefox.its free and easy

    hope this helps,mr smith

    Hi

Recently (past 2 or 3 weeks) I've been having a problem with Firefox (version 3 - not sure if that's anything to do with it). From time to time when following a URL I get the "Page not found" error page on a URL I know exists. Then I click the Try Again button and, after 1, 2 or more clicks, the page eventually loads.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it Firefox v.3? Is it the True DNS being rubbish?

    Cheers

    Mick

  15. :o can somebody post a picture?maybe tv readers can help catch him

Amazing , even more considering that this criminal is only 21 years old !

as stated above he is a murderer .

Not exactly a fan of Joran van der Sloot, but to get the facts right: he never confessed to murdering anyone. What he confessed in the under cover operation was getting rid of the body, after she suddenly died.

Sure hope he will get arrested and not just deported.

Tijnebijn: I am sorry but I have to agree with Mario2008 here.

Joran van der Sloot*, 21, and from Aruba/Netherlands Antilles and Holland son of an Attorney/Lawyer, is not a convicted murderer. He is still a suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway/USA on Aruba, May 30, 2005 but he is not believed to have killed her but surely involved in her disappearance (after she died.....or..wasn't dead yet.... :D ). The case is vague at this point and it could not be proved that he actually killed her.

post-13995-1226164736_thumb.jpg Natalee Holloway disappeared on May 30, 2005 on Aruba Island/Netherlands Antilles.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalee_Holloway

    * There are many video results about Joran van der Sloot on Google/YouTube, showing his 'confession' when he was secretly filmed in a specially prepared Range Rover:

    http://video.google.nl/videosearch?client=...4&ct=title#

It could be that Thaivisa members never heard of the story but it was HUGE news in the USA, Netherlands Antilles as well as in The Netherlands.

Dutch Crimereporter Peter R. de Vries published many television reports about the case with the climax of an, UNHEARD OF, Undercover Operation where he and his team exposed Joran van der Sloot, 'confessing' -secretly filmed- that he knew about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and what happened with her, since he was with her that night on the beach on Aruba.

The television broadcast on February 3, 2008 attracted the LARGEST EVER audience on Dutch television (and later the same in the USA on many Networks) and was watched by almost 50% of the total Dutch population of 16 Million.

Peter R. de Vries was recently awarded with an Emmy Award in New York because of his undercover production about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Everything about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway is here:

    http://www.peterrdevries.com/

    So: why now Thailand ?

JORAN VAN DER SLOOT is in BANGKOK

possibly involved in Thai Girl trafficking

    post-13995-1226166138_thumb.jpg

Key figure, Crimereporter Peter R. de Vries, mentioned last night on Dutch television that he was no longer interested in Joran van der Sloot, until he was informed, some months ago, that Joran van der Sloot was living in Bangkok and offered an acquaintance of his in Holland to deliver Thai girls for a price of Baht 500,000 or €uro 10,000 per girl.

The girls were promised they would act as dancers in Holland but the real reason behind all this was/is probably of a different nature...(I am careful here since the program* is not aired yet...)

According to Van der Sloot he would take care of passports and visa documents, necessary to travel to The Netherlands.

Peter R. de Vries was contacted by a vague friend of Joran and offered his help. This man, together with an employee of De Vries' team traveled to Bangkok recently where Joran was ''exposed and secretly filmed'' for the 2nd time by the De Vries team.

    * The Part II of the Joran van der Sloot story will be aired on Sunday, November 9, 2008 and will draw millions of viewers, no doubt.

Most newspapers in Holland reported the news on their front pages.

Joran van der Sloot was secretly filmed in a hotel room in THE LANDMARK HOTEL - Bangkok. The team was also showing his (he's 21 !) villa in Bangkok and driving around on a big motorbike (Harley style) - (photos in papers).

Another, famous Dutch Television Host, Ivo Niehe was staying in a rather expensive Hotel in Bhutan (!?) in September when he spotted Joran van der Sloot at a table next to him. Joran recognized Mr. Niehe and disappeared. It seems that Joran has enough money to travel around whilst living in a big villa in Bangkok, driving a big motorbike....

The story, no doubt, will be followed up and it remains to be seen if the Thai Police will have enough evidence to arrest Joran van der Sloot, or not, after seeing the footage of the 1 1/2 hour of television on November 9, Sunday.

According to a large newspaper, Thai authorities have been informed about Joran van der Sloot and an "arrest is not to be excluded" as the Dutch paper, De Telegraaf, reported

But maybe Joran van der Sloot won't wait for the outcome and has fled Thailand already.

    We'll see.

  16. :D hi this might help you with getting english instead of thai: the little buttom on your remote to the right of the 6 buttom has an alternate language, namely english. selecting this will give you english with thai subtitles. :o:D:D

great, that truevisions website is exactly what i was searching for. thanks!

the channels i've found in english are hbo, cinemax, starmovies and hallmark (channels 12, 13, 14 and 15) along with the news channels cnn, bbc and cnbc (42, 43 and 44). are there any others that people watch? i know i've clicked through and seen a random english program here and there but the majority of time they are in thai. i don't see a system to the madness lol

thanks a lot for answering the really dumb questions

  17. :D lets put a meter on every thing that moves!!!!!!!!!! bus, taxi, tuktuk, boat,mc,kitty, plane, train

auto, include a recording device for the amount, then the government can collect tax on it. :o:D:D

We all know the answer is to take 50% of them off the road, stop them parking up and onlywanting to work private hire and to get some proper taxis to work on the meter.

Until then, the little bastards can starve on their Bt5 or Bt10 forever (which they won't as the maths proves) save the few good ones.

  18. hi ,i suggest you contact the childs mother again to find out when she plans to return.make an offer to let he son stay with you. :o

    distortedlink:

We had already established that the mother would not be returning home or, indeed, any relative - that's why we offered a place to stay.

As you probably are aware, it does no good to confront a Thai person with accusations of any wrong doing, so we felt that, in this instance, this would be the best approach.

I have no way currently of contacting the father and am not sure what good this would do anyway.

If I was not concerned about the welfare of the child, I would not have posted this thread would I?

  19. :o hi aries,i completely agree with you!!!

hey, congratulations. at least you asked before you jumped. some never did and regretted later..oooopss...

just one question: so what if the friend is pregnant? if business was good, all the more she should hold on to it for a stable income for her, her child or family... selling out doesnt make sense??? huh? duh? whatever!

am femme, am not from thailand and this is the most objective reply you can get.

THINK!!! ASK AROUND!!!! at the very least, read many of the posts here about farangs investing in TH for their GFs. if youre still convinced you are making a good decision, go for it.
