Many thanks Forethat, yes you are correct, the legal gender assignment of a transgender in Thailand is that the person is defined by it's gender at the time of birth, regardless of gender reassignment surgery. Although I do believe there are moves to relax that rule, to what extend I don't know.
As far as which tee 'he' should tee off from I think, to avoid post match in-house bickering, gossip etc, especially if he beats the captain's wife to the first prize, and by definition as he is legally a man, he therefore should tee off from the back tees with a man's hcp. Can't see it being any other way.

If a lady boy, married to a member, was playing in an organised competition, what tee would be used, and what would the handicap implications be?
Serious comments only please.
Thanks,
TB

Yes and me also, thanks a lot.

After reading the endless posts re visas etc I am still not totally convinced that a re entry permit can be obtained at the airport prior to flying out. Can someone please catagorically state that this is the case for all international flights and if possible refer me to the official source of this procedure. If this is a fact, then I have to wonder why so many people requiring a re entry permit add, unnecessarily, to the chaos at the Immigration Office. Is it because of the uncertainty that they might turn up and find it is not the case thus causing a major disruption to their holiday plans, flights, hotels etc?
Many thanks,
TB

A friend of mine, UK expat living in Chiang Mai, recently had the following experience when attempting to renew his UK passport:
This is his story:
Preamble
I retired to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand in 2002. My passport at that time expired in 2004 and after checking with the British Consulate here I submitted my application to them and less than 2 weeks later I received my new passport. The expiry date on that passport was July 29 2014.
March 21 2014 – British Consulate Chiang Mai
I had been advised that the system had changed slightly from that above in that I was required to present the completed application at the British Consulate for checking and approval only. Thereafter I would be responsible for forwarding it, via a courier service (DHL), to the Passport Office at Liverpool, and pay the costs including the courier return costs. As I did not consider this to be unreasonable I was happy to comply.
March 26 2014 – British Consulate Chiang Mai
I returned to the British Consulate with the completed forms and the requisite photocopies, only to be informed that the system had again changed since my previous visit on the 21st. It was now necessary for all applicants to deliver the application papers personally to the UK Visa Application Center in Bangkok and furthermore, when the new passport was received by the UK Visa Application Center the applicant had to make a return journey to Bangkok in order to collect it in person.
Not happy with this information, I complained to the British Consulate regarding the absence of advance notice of this change and was informed that they “thought” there may be a grace period and advised me to contact the passport advice line in the UK for further information. My main concern, apart from additional expense and inconvenience, was not so much the expiry of my passport, I still had 4 months before that expired, but my Thai (Retirement) visa, which has to be renewed annually, was due to expire June 12th and I did not want to run afoul of Thai Immigration requirements.
I contacted the Passport advice line in the UK and after connecting I was put on hold for 23 minutes before I hung up the phone in disgust. I tried again later and eventually made contact with a pedantic sounding gentleman who, despite his blustering, knew less about the new system than I did, he eventually put me on hold for 12 minutes while he went for advice and when he came back he told me, in a voice lacking any conviction, “if the Consulate said there was a grace period then go ahead and try.” This was not very reassuring so I returned to the Consulate and spoke with a senior member of staff who told me that I had been misinformed and there was no grace period, I was then given an email address to make an appointment for an interview in Bangkok. This was now April and I was still no further forward.
I sent emails to UK Visa Application Center in Bangkok on April 1st /2nd/ 3rd and 5th requesting an appointment before finally receiving a reply on April 7th granting me an appointment for April 22nd. In that period I also sent a request for assistance to UK passport office April 2nd. They finally replied on April 17th advising me to contact Bangkok (a little late!) I duly flew to Bangkok and submitted my application papers, there was no interview just a harassed employee who quickly reviewed my application to make sure it was complete, took my payment, gave me a receipt and said it would take 4 or 5 weeks. I then flew back to Chiang Mai to wait.
May 21 2014
Sent an email requesting information on progress, no reply.
May 28 2014
Sent again and received reply May 29th advising me to check progress of application by logging on to a web site. On entering this site I was immediately advised ‘This website is not available to people living in Thailand’!
June 3 2014
Informed Bangkok about website and again requested information; they replied that I would be advised when the passport arrived in Bangkok.
June 4 2014
Called UK passport office and was informed my passport was ready and should be in Bangkok on Monday June 9th. This was now very close to the expiry date for my Thai visa so I went to the Immigration office in Chiang Mai and explained the situation; they were sympathetic but could not be any more helpful than to inform me I would be fined 500 Baht (£10) per day for every day after June 12th until I produce my new passport.
June 10 2014
Again called UK (more expense) it was confirmed by another person my passport was completed May 29th and was ready for delivery. I sent another email to the UK Visa Application Center in Bangkok advising them of this.
June 12 2014
Finally received notification from the UK Visa Application Center in Bangkok that the passport had arrived and I could collect it anytime at their office. I made arrangements to travel to Bangkok the next day (June 13). I advised the Thai Immigration of the situation again hoping they may be a little understanding but they said I could renew my visa on Monday and I would only be fined 4 days overstay (2,000 Baht). When I collected the passport from the UK Visa Application Center in Bangkok they told me it had only arrived the previous day and what I thought was adding insult to injury was the fact that the passport was given to me still in the DHL envelope which I opened in the office and I wondered why it couldn't have been sent to the office in Chiang Mai or the Chiang Mai British Consulate.
The UK have recently reduced the costs of new passports, by the time I receive my new Thai visa this saga will have cost me close to 32,500 Baht (£600 pounds) in travelling expenses, phone calls and fines plus the hassle, worry and inconvenience that at my age (77) I could do without. I realise this is a very long story but I had to tell someone about it and once I started I couldn't stop.

I can 'get' a copy and put thai subs on, may take a few days. If ur still interested pm me.

I have a dream that someone will realise that 'Red' means 'Go' at the traffic lights and change the order accordingly, I have a dream.
I have a dream when I have visitors from UK they don't want to go up Doi Suthep, I have a dream.
I have a dream that when my friends and I order a meal we get the dishes at the same time and the starters first not last, I have a dream.

It was a really good deal until the Supersport feed got cut prior to the 2010 world cup - had F1, cricket, rugby etc. Also no more BBC. Al Jazeera a bit samey, Middle Eastern-centric. Have cartoon channels (Thai and English) so good if you have kids. Reception can be duff on some channels. Not all old movies; they'll often play some that haven't long been on cinema.
Aye, it's the sport (EPL, F1, Golf, etc) that I'd miss most and the turn-on when the Toon smash the Black Cats...again!! but I suppose as an addition to True it could be worthwhile...maybe.

Saw one just like that yesterday at Makro, Hangdong Rd, upstairs, leftside. Otherwise, try Index Living Mall, next to Carrefour on Superhighway.
Thanks MES, before I dash over there do I need a Makro card to buy such things. I've never shopped in Makro but I hear that a card is needed.
Cheers,
TB
I have also seen them in Macro, also in Big C at Hang Dong and Teco Lotus.
You don`t need a Macro card. They will ask you for a card, just say you do not have and then they use a special card reserved for customers without a card.
Thanks to one and all for your kind assistance. Regarding the electric kettle suggestion; need something a little more aggressive to force me to get my fat behind out of the computer chair in the morning. A 'clunk' wouldn't do it I'm afraid, whereas a pain-in-the-arse whistle would certainly do the trick. So it's off to Makro this morning...
Cheers

Looking to buy a whistling kettle in Chiang Mai similar to the one below. Anyone know where they can be found? I have burned to destruction 1 of the conventional type and blackened 2 others on the stove while engrossed in the pc (probably reading tv posts) waiting to make my early morning cuppa. Before anyone suggests that I move my pc to the kitchen or my stove to the pc room, neither of these are practical solutions.

Hi Krupnik, haven't come across anywhere that sell thai movies with English subs. When I download the movie I also download the English subs (if they're available) and either burn them to disk as hardsubs or put them in the same folder as the movie (file name must be same except for file format eg .avi .srt etc) most new DVD players will play the movie and pick-up the sub at the same time. Bought movies from a shop is a wee bit more difficult to add subs.

Also means no more Doc Martin
Will see if I can dig you out all four seasons of Doc Martin I have on DVD somewhere
I'm currently watching the new Spooks Ser.9, George Gently ser.3 (Martin Shaw) and a whole host of old and brand-spanking new stuff from UK TV in HD or otherwise. All the old comedy series, dramas etc, etc...and Doc Martin. All BBC/ITV sport programmes and live events.
How? Easy, download the torrents from The Box and UK Nova - to mention two, (free) drop them (+/- 4-6 shows) onto your 4-8 GB USB flash drive (250 Baht +) as an AVI file shove it into your dvd player's (600 Baht+) USB port and Bob's yer uncle! Both picture and audio perfect. When finished, delete and reload. True Vision, eat yer heart out!!
PM me if you need to know more.
Cheers,

I don't have the Michael Palin series but I do have both the Ewan Mcgreggor and Charlie Bowman adventures, Long way round and Long way down. Pm me if you are interested in a copy of these.
Have you come across the excellent Rob Hof series "Trails from the East" looked everywhere, must be keeping them under a tight wrap. Words like rockinghorse and shit come to mind!
Do you have "How to lay on the couch for weeks and not put on weight", by any chance?
Has it rained yet?
Yes I have, aka, "The Off Button". Just joking of course!

Don't know the guy personally but have appreciated his mature and helpful comments on many occasions. Seems like I'm not alone in this appreciation. Good luck, good health and a speedy recovery.

Hi Toon Broon - I'm going through your stuff quicker than I thought (I must get out more). Do you have an updated list?
Crikey, it's not only me then! I had another 20 disks just last week and have gone through the bloody lot again already. In some ways, I curse the day I ever started this thread because I've been spending far too much time slouched in the couch watching a plethora of great viewing. Still, it is the rainy season!
That reminds me, I must make a new list. That's the great thing about ToonBroon, if it ain't on his list, just request it and he'll get it if he can. Quality has been spot on with all my orders so far, and he's been able to dig out some real blasts from the past in British TV.
Aitch
I have UBC, but I've only been catching the news now and then - mostly just putting on DVD's. I have watched Simon Schama's 15 part series The History of Great Britain twice! It's a masterpiece. I've just gone through Spartacus, though the missus couldn't understand all that Roman debauchery - I'm sure she thinks I'm a pervert.
I'm glad footie is starting soon otherwise I'd be tempted to kick UBC into touch.
Seems like I should attach some sort of health warning to my list re excessive watching of DVDs and a get-out clause pertaining to divorces arising as a consequence thereof.
In the meanwhile updates are winging their way to you.
Cheers

Watched the first episode of Frost today, which took me back a few years - but it was absolutely wonderful. DI Frost with his greasy bacon sandwich in hand, always late, always sarcastic, totally non conformist and suffering through a range of personal emotions.
Isn't David Jason a great talent - from playing young Granville in Open All Hours (alongside the late great Ronnie Barker).....to the best comedy series of all time (IMO) Only Fools & Horses.....with Del Boy, complimented superbly by the long suffering Rodney (Nick Lyndhurst).
I have 1st Series of Only Fools & Horses if your interested plus the Inspector Morse series. I agree they just don't come any better, Brits at their best is wot I say. Alright then!
