  1. I recently was unable to renew retirement visa because of the bank transfer situation. I am back in US and telephoned Thai consulate in NY. The agent told me that the monthly income , method is no longer acceptable to obtain non-imm O retirement visa. Only the 800,000 baht bankaccount way. When I asked him why this was, he said because the monthly income is "difficult to prove." I questioned him why this was, as it does not seem difficult, he became very angry and just kept repeating, "difficult to prove, difficult to prove". Then he hung up.

Is this true? Have they changed the rules yet again? I know people are sick of this topic, but I have wife and child in Thailand and if this is true I will not be able to live there for a long term anymore.

  2. Thank you for your support and kindness. At least, thank you for those of you whoa re kind. I did make it to border at Mae sai and paid 2 days overstay fine and have 30 day extension. But let me warn you of this. Even though I have never done Mae Sai border crossing  in my life, the officer said I was denied extension because only 2 crossings a year are allowed. He said this without even checking to see if I ever was at border. Obviously he just did not want to give me xtension. But thank you Jesus my Thai wife showed up and spoke to him, and he changed hsi mind and gave me extension. As for those who say I should have all this money saved up, I have supported 13 Thai children through high school on my retirement pension and adopted a boy abandoned by his mother at bus station. .And then my wife got cancer and had operation. If my wife and I were just here enjoying cheap living, we could have saved all this money. We are Christians and not missionaries but we wish to pay back the Lord. I am not preaching, just explaining my financial situation. Merry Christmas everyone.

  3. Today my one year retirement visa expired. I tried to renew it 3 times but was denied because even though I have sufficient income it was not all deposited in bank. I know this is my mistake as every year before I just got letter from consulate. My problem is I don't know what to do now. I jst had motorbile accident and have no mney left for airplane flight even to Malaysia. I ahve new passport and cannot go to Laos. Ii it possible to go to Mae Sai border and reenter with 1 day overstay and pay fine, or will I get arrested. CM immigration is no help at all when I ask what to do. I have plane ticket to America within 30 days if I can stay that long. Does anyone have any advice for me. merry Christmas.

  4. Greetings everyone. Doctor says my wife who is Thai probably has breast cancer, but will not know msure until lab report. Does anyone have information please about what hospital to take her if it is necessary. Thank you.

  5. An old man from Ireland broke his leg day before he was due to renew visa in Mae Sai. This was on 12/15. He has letter from hospital saying he broke his leg, and he is 76 years old and has no transportation. He asked me to take him to Mae Sai monday and I said okay, but I am wondering can he get extension or exemption from medical certificate or what should he do? Thank you anyone who can help.

  6. I am trying to divorce American wife but having problems. I lived in NY state but lawyer says I am not resident there so cannot get divorce there. Wife lives in california but not long enough to file for divorce there. Has any American on forum gotten divorced from US wife or have information about this. If so I greatly appreciate. Thank you.

  7. I had not been in Thailand long when I encountered this same situation. I could not speak one word of Thai but I used to be in law enforcement and this kind of crap is same everywhere. I just got between the guy and woman and held up my hand and said "stop", which I am sure guy did not know English but still figured it out. He kept yelling and shaking his fist but he was half my size for one thing and like a other posting said these types are usually gutless anyway, so he got on his bike and rode away. There were many Thai people watching but no one got involved. I am not advising anyone what to do, only reporting an incident.

As for posting who says maybe she deserved it, many women have done me wrong but I never hit them. This is a gutless and cowardly act and if woman is no good just leave or throw her out but no excuse for beating women.

  9. I think there might be many bad effects to minimum wage being raised to 300 baht.

    1-Goods will cost more.

2-Many workers will be laid off or replaced by foreign workers.

3-Bangkok business will suffer because why pay more to live in Bangkok when you can live cheaper and save money upcountry.

4-Exports will go down when prices rise.

5-People will have less incentive for education if they make as much without it.

I am not against raising minimum wage, but this is a really big increase in very short time. If 1 person gets a raise, while 3 more become unemployed, is this a good thing?

I am not sure, but to answer some people, no disrespect to anyone's religion, but I myself do not want to be buddha-like, or even buddhist. This does not make someone inferior, I don't think, to not wish to be like Buddha, just as it does not make one inferior if they do. People live in many ways and does not mean this way or that one is better, and really this does not have so much to do about minimum wage.
