Given that Ukraine is not a NATO country, or have a treaty with NATO or America, the west does not have to start MAD because Russia retaliated  against Ukraine using west supplied weapons to attack the Russian mainland.

If they do choose to escalate by using nukes, better say goodbye to every person you love before they become dust.

This particular essay may be of interest to some: (transparency of their funding is questionable) - but  I subscribe to & find useful their military assessment reports:  https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/special-report-assessing-putin’s-implicit-nuclear-threats-after-annexation

  2. good question, especially as I'm the ''gun shy guy'' from Nakohn Si. in my situation (where my application in Feb 2024 to switch from capital to income got rejected) the rules I was quoted (using your example of 40k/month) was this: i had the total income for the 2023 year, but it was deposited in 11 of the 12 calendar months - i.e. January to December, excluding May, which was credited on the 1st of June. Consequently, I had 2 pension deposits in June/none in May. That's fair enough - no argument with their ruling. My experience seems to imply that IO will look at the period from Jan - Dec for you. Then again, maybe not. my advice is - go to IO and ask them for what their ruling will be based on.

Already answered by @DrJack54, but I'll just add, although work is permitted on an extension based on Thai spouse, you still require a work permit to be legal.

You can apply for WP on a 'Marriage Visa/Extension' only. Not on a Retirement Visa/Extension.

But once again you are very confused about the types of extensions and there financial requirements. Check out older threads before posting again.

thanks you for clarifying. I got sidetracked by the Thai spouse extension, which I have no interest in, since I am married to a Canadian. It wont happen again I promise, and, for Heavens' sake, please don't report me to a moderator. You must have been a headmaster in a previous life?   :)

Any reasonable person would assume that he was there for the sole purpose of antagonising a pro Hamas demonstration …. there, fixed it for you.

If it was an anti-war demonstration, they would all be demanding the immediate release of the hostages that are still being held by the Palestinian government of Gaza. They have been held for over 6 months now, and their release could end this tomorrow; but I doubt if that fits in with your narrative.

now there you go again. The ''small picture'' brigade. You are so fascinated with the single news item in the OP  that you cannot see the bigger picture (which news outlets publish photos of protestors with anti-war signs). Thanks to Qatar's interventions, and none other, Hamas has so far released four hostages. Hamas, whom I abhor, has called for a grand prisoner exchange to release the rest. Israel says no such deal is on the table. Yet a recent Israeli opinion poll found nearly two-thirds of Israelis surveyed support a prisoner exchange. But that is whataboutery is it not? . so it does not suit the 18 pages of narrative in this topic.

  6. one further thought:  not everyone here is using some perspective: Hamas killed a lot of Israelis (not necessarily all Jewish) in a horrible fashion. Now, it is pretty obvious that the Israeli government wants revenge, to the extent of what? 35,000 dead Muslims? This is a separate agenda from what many Jews around the world want - they want security. and rightly so.  But not at the horrendous loss of lives that continues today and tomorrow. Do not disenfranchise those of us who are against war and genocide, specially by the very people who suffered their own genocide. Savagely Ironic is it not? .

Legally there is only one way with the cause being ""quite openly Jewish," that's why I prefer the whole sentence rather than some people snipping it out of context:

"Officers informed him that his presence, being "quite openly Jewish," could potentially lead to a "breach of peace" amidst the pro-Palestinian march. One officer went as far as to assert that Falter's mere existence was "antagonising" the demonstrators."

So, you might as well be asking us how many angels can dance on the head of a needle. Your interpretation is so tenuous, it's painful.  This whole thread has been  hijacked by the pro-semite, anti-semite groups, with the exception of a few moderate posters. I'd back the judgement of the police, (despite how non PC their warning was, to this guy).  Any reasonable person would assume that he was there for the sole purpose of antagonizing an anti-war demonstration.

That's correct, and it means that unless you already started to do these +40K monthly transfers from abroad you won't be able to meet the 12 monthly transfers criterium to do the switch.

Also be aware as another poster mentioned that not all Imm Offices do allow to switch method, or might have some additional requirements that need to be met when they would allow it.  So best to talk to your local Imm Office to learn about their requirements.

yep. I'm going to take my deposit book to IO next month (the 3 months anniversary of my extension application date) and seek approval for a draw-down to 400,100 baht (just to be safe)

I just did the change at Jomtien one month ago.

Absolutely need 12 full months of deposits and a letter from your bank showing just your 12 deposits and in the letter there would be a statement stating that the deposits were foreign transfers. I didn't  need to, but best not to touch the ฿ 400K until you complete the switch.

would he not be able to apply the rule where you can withdraw 50% after 3 months and top up his deposit to 400k, 2 months before extension application date? or does that only apply to the 800k 'gang (of which I am a member).

  10. My Canadian bank sent me a form to complete including info about my TIN. Now that is something I'll have to put down to short term memory loss. I'm wondering, do US citizens get asked for the same info. I know that there's a form which you have to complete for investment brokers here, which asks you  to confirm that you are not a US citizen. Just curious.

Here is the application form. Once filled out it can be sent by regular e-mail as stated on page 5. I'd also assume that if you have any questions you can send them to the same e-mail address.

You are more than kind. my Danish born wife was devastated to be reassessed for repayment of the 2023 years pension, retroactively. she has never owed any debt in her life and now at 82, she is receiving demands from their debt collection agency. all due to our ignorance of the rules that moving to Thailand, from Canada, with Canadian citizenship only - rendered you ineligible for the 2 Danish Govt pensions. what I am hoping to do is to personally settle the debt and apply for renewal of her Danish citizenship, provided it means something. The amounts are small - but the stress is unhealthy. again, tak.

IF you really want a TIN - a big if - you can easily get one by applying for a refund of withholding tax (the tax withheld by your Thai bank from the interest of your Thai bank account).

You have to go to the bank first, they will issue you a document stating how much withholding tax you paid,  then you have to bring this to the RD office.

This can routinely be done for the last 3 years.

what I am interested in seeing, for the 2023 tax year, is what my tax accountant does with a fairly large amount of dividend income. its taxed on a w/h basis at 10%. and I do understand the rules for gross up to claim a refund (they're somewhat onerous). in prior years it was tax free. anyone else in a similar position - i.e. with a large Thai dividend income?

Yes, very much so, that piece of mind knowing you've drawn a line under the year is important to many people, it is to me also.

Which spawned another thought....how far back can the TRD request an audit, is it 7 years, anyone know?

In other news.....I just filed my UK tax and I will pay 86 Pounds tax. It could have been zero but I wanted to pay a token amount so that, in keeping with previous years, I can demonstrate that I both file and pay. Line drawn under year.

absolutely. same with our Canuck returns - altho' there, there is a claw-back of pension income clause if you don't file. clever people!

    Yes, you're correct.

I'd rather reformulate: No tax to pay, no need to file a tax return.

After  26 years here full time, the golden rule is ''you must obey the law'' - and, in case you were not aware, the law is whatever is interpreted by the officer/court/whatever. I've managed to accept this, at Immigration. But forced to ''eat'' 5 mill. in condo value, at the Supreme Court level. just file a return, is my advice. It's a minuscule point: but one day, you may consider to apply for Thai citizenship, you'll need proof of having filed tax returns, regardless of no tax liability.  jimho 🙂

The answer is that it depends on several factors. You can read about the rules here (official government website in Danish): https://www.borger.dk/pension-og-efterloen/International-pension/Dansk-pension-i-udlandet/International-pension-soege

Many Thanks . I've located that website. One of the biggest hurdles is that most of the Danish Government agencies assume you can register for (and communicate by) their digital post system. We cannot do that, because, crazy as it may seem,  they rejected my wife's passport photo, because it was taken 7 years ago. Her photo taken today using the NetID app is rejected as not being the same person. I have also contacts Pensions International by phone. I just wish there was a specific Q & A section, that I could translate into English, in order to find out what the various factors are? By the way, my wife did qualify for a Danish pension, for the many years when she lived in Canada (despite not reactivating her Danish citizenship, once the rules allowed dual citizenship.
