  1. the whole year is expected to be 1.35% Lays potato chips went from 20 Baht to 22 Baht to 24 Baht. Food went from 40 Baht to 50 Baht.
  2. I think Richard Lynn was the expert on the issue. IQ and the Wealth of Nations was a very good intro to the subject. People with lower IQ's cant comprehend complex tasks. Hence the type of economy they would have will be less complex compared to those with higher IQ's. So what is intelligence - in my view - pattern recognition. You have the ability to see patterns forming. IQ in my view is mainly genetic which most likely provides 75% of your IQ and 25% environmental. So the Flynn effect is closing the 25% environmental gap. Lynn once spoke about how he was limited by the Chinese government that he could only take the IQ tests in certain wealthy areas. Most of the test takers had American accents which he found strange. On more than one occasion he noticed that the same students arrived in different towns in China where he held the tests. He was a remarkable man with really good insight. One of the brightest people I had ever spoken too. RIP. The topic came up once many years back and a friend of mine asked me what I thought the chances of Cambodia rising would be. Considering the war had a massive dysgenic effect on the population. I said that it did not look good. The bright ones are a minority and they will have fewer kids than the not so bright people. Either way it does not look very good. Much like the speculation as to what would happen in sub-Sahara Africa. Pretty much the same disaster we already see unfolding. Most likely a malthusian catastrophe. Nature has a way to keep everything in check.
  3. Well lets see. If you make money abroad and live on your retirement visa. Since you are then paying taxes would you still need to play this 'money game' each year - 2 months before and 3 months after? Could you then just show your tax receipt?
  4. The headline is strange. British man recounts shocking encounter with racist Russians in Phuket. I thought my word, white people calling white people racist in Thailand. This must be a new twist in the politically correct tales.
  5. True, its just another disaster in the making. I however get this strange vibe when he says "The initial proposal includes a raise of the minimum wage to 400 baht per day and monthly salaries for university graduates to 25,000 baht." You cannot legislate people into wealth nor can you legislate Thailand into a upper middle income state. Sorry but this type of 'commie' thinking I have seen in Africa with disastrous consequences. People will simply disinvest much like China is seeing people leave because of higher salary bills. The idea that "This is part of a broader strategy to generate higher tax revenues and encourage further investment." to me spells disaster. People do not invest where the labour is expensive and the work can be done elsewhere.
  6. I always hate passing them when the container is empty. The containers make a rattling sound when its old and empty. RIP to those killed in the accident.
  7. 4. Do my wife and child have to accompany me to the Thai Consulate? Guarantee letter from Thai Spouse, can be Thai or English Certified copy of Thai spouse’s ID card Certified copy of house registration book Is there a limit on how many times you can apply for a 3 month Non Imm O marriage visa? Cambodia would only do it twice for me in one year.
  8. I was wondering if immigration is closed next week for ASEAN? Also what happens if my visa extension due date is during this time. Should I go earlier if they are closed or does it become a 2 day overstay if my expiration date is during this time?
  9. Thanks. I had the number ported to AIS and it works. What a relief.
  10. Which mobile phone network because it cant be TrueH? True truly sucks.
  11. 1. Do all the banks use VOIP for their SMS OTP's? 2. Cant one ask to allow the spam SMS's through to your phone if you wish?
  12. Hi, There are two threads on here that they cant receive an OTP code from banks and other services from abroad while in Thailand. It appears to be global from Australia, UK and South Africa. The threads don't end with a solution. Has anyone been able to receive an OTP lately? I am on TrueH and they suck when it comes to any help. Someone said they had their TrueH ported to AIS but then another one from this year says that AIS does not work now for the OTP any longer. When I called TrueH he said the number was blocked because of spam. I am going to assume not from me but from elsewhere. Said he will unblock my number and it will take 15 minutes. Well that did not work. 1. Can I ask to allow myself to read the spam? 2. Does anyone else know how to get around the OTP problem now? Much appreciated.
  13. ????What a mission! This used to be very straightforward 10 years back. My visa expires in November and my passport January 2023. The Embassy already clipped by passport edges so I cant leave the country. Can I then just simply wait until November and do the visa transfer and visa extension then? I am not going to get the bank book and bank letter again. I could just do it all one time. Is there a time limit to transfer the visa to the new passport - I understand from here there is no time limit? Still do my 90 days online with the old passport?
  14. There was a rather insightful documentary a few years back on British television. It was about Brits who live with a ladyboy in Thailand. They asked the one, well when you naked and she turns around there is the 'thing'. He says yes, it does not fit in with the rest of her body. The interviewer asks him, well what do you think when you see the 'thing'. He pauses and then says that he thinks of it as an oversized clitorirs in his mind. I wondered then how many who like ladyboys actually do this level of mental gymnastics.
  15. Typed while sitting outside the 711 drinking your Beer Chang .... ????
  16. ???? A thumbs up just would now have done it justice. That was a very good answer and true by the way from my own experience. When they are in their mid 20's they are still malleable but once they hit 30 its like a coca cola bottle. Its molded and it aint changing into a teacup.
  17. I dont mean to be rude but his company should have covered this with their private medical insurance. There is also Social Security and everyone has to pay into that. Friend of mine here in Thailand who worked here got diagnosed with cancer and the social security paid for his treatment at a government hospital as that was the closest to him. It was early stages and he made a full recovery. This was a few years ago. I had a friend with stage 4 and it cost him everything, including the house. He had kids and wanted to push on. Did a gofundme as well. Died a year later leaving his wife and kids with nothing. I told him that Stage 4 is Gods waiting room. You need to make peace and let it go and not run up debt beyond what they can carry as the kids are young and need a roof over their heads. He insisted on private healthcare instead of free government care back home as well. Some people are just beyond me. I get really tired as well when expats run these 'fund me' when they should be taking care of these things themselves. They are irresponsible. If you dont have the money, go home and seek free government care at home.
