  1. Does anyone know where I can get a Vitamin D blood test done. I have tried to obvious places, hospital web sites but they do not seem to either work properly of do not state what blood tests they do.

I have read that low levels of Vitamin D can weaken your immune system this is especially pertinent to people with dark skin. In current climate I would like my wife to have a test. We are already taking a vitamin D supplement,

but if her levels are not high enough then we may have to increase the dose.

For those that are interested I have attached the following link.

If anyone know where I can get a test done I would be grateful.

  2. Recently I put out an article re above subject and many readers got the wrong idea in their comments so for clarity let me explain.

I should point out that we are not trying to recover any monies from the failed funds, we know there is no money. One of our complaints and there are many, is that  FPI and Scandia should not of made these funds available to ‘retail’ investors as these funds were designed for ‘Sophisticated’ and ‘Professional Investors’ and that they failed to act on this, and allowed these funds to be made available to retail investors for a very long time. There are now questions of financial misconduct and lack of due diligence to name but a few.

Anyone who lost has money through these funds with  Ponzi / Scam schemes and invested their money via Friends Provident or Royal Scandia (now Old Mutual) now have an opportunity to recover approximately 50-60% of their money.

    The funds were

    1. Axiom legal financing

    2. LM managed performance fund

    3. All other group LM funds

    4. Premier New Earth

    5. Premier Eco resources

    6. Kiwanis

A group of 93 investors have been working to recover losses for last 6 years and we are now ready to proceed

We have engaged a firm of Litigation Solicitors in London, a London QC who has lodged a statement of claim where we have a 60% chance of success and a firm of Advocates in the Isle of Man.

We have obtained Litigation Funding & Insurance for the case and cover any adverse costs

So you have “nothing to lose but everything to gain “

Our lawyers are very positive that our case will be successful.

Taking part in this action will be at no cost to you. If the action fails then the Litigation funder will pay any costs.

If you feel you feel you qualify to take part in this action please contact Peter and he will get you registered and entered into the action

Peter Kells to get you registered in the group on:-

Peter is a committee member of the Class Action he lost his savings, he lives in Bangkok and has been involved in the action for the last 6 years.

Below is an extract from a letter regarding the funds in the action:

    Dear Investor,

     GROUP ACTION

We are writing to you as we understand that you may qualify to join legal proceedings which have recently been launched against Friends Provident International Limited ("FPI") and Old Mutual International Isle of Man Limited (formerly Skandia International) ("OMI").

As explained below, there is an opportunity to join the action free of charge as the costs of the proceedings are being paid by a litigation funder.

We represent the initial group of investors who have already filed claims in the Isle of Man Court. We set out below further details about the claims and the legal team which is representing investors. The claims seek compensation for funds which were sold to investors by FPI and OMI and which have either failed or suffered substantial losses.

The funds were sold as "Personal Portfolio Bonds" or as "Insurance Bonds" and had product names such as the "Executive Investment Bond" and the "Reserve Investment Bond". The funds in question include the following:

    1. Axiom Legal Financing Fund

    2. LM Managed Performance Fund

    3. All other LM Group funds including the Trilogy Wholesale FMIF

    4. Premier New Earth (all investment schemes managed by Premier New Earth)

    5. Premier Eco Resources Fund

    6.Kijani

Fund Investors who were sold structured notes with underlying interests in these funds may also be entitled to participate in this action.

The Group is unfortunately unable to accept registrations from direct investors in the funds who were not sold Portfolio Bonds / Insurance Bonds.

  3. A few years ago many expats invested in certain funds sold through Friends Provident International and Scandia ( now called Old Mutual) via IFA's. To our cost many of these funds failed and many of us have lost a lot of hard earned money.

During this time support groups have formed with a view of trying to recover our money. I am pleased to report that a class Action is being bought against these two companies, funding has been approved, and there is no cost to any individual

Attached is an extract from a letter stating which funds are being  contested, it is only these funds that are eligible to be included in the class action.

Please read the attachment if you feel you are eligible please contact Mr. Peter Kells on 0846450007 or email him at [email protected] and he will will give you more details.Thaivisaattach.docx

Mr Kells is on the management committee of the action.

In order to complete the deal I have been told by the dealer (Toyota)that I need to go to the Immigration office to get proof of my address , so the new owners (LetSure - Toyota's second hand dealers) can legally own the car. My question is what is the procedure, do I need to download a form before I go and what if any documents do I need to copy. I intend to go this Mon morning (Chiang Mai) to do this, I just like to be prepaired as best I can to save time.

  6. Thought members of California Wow ought to know, if they didn't already, that Califorina Wow, Chiang Mai will be closing on 1 Feb 2013, that's this coming Friday. The notice said the management apologies for the short notice and asks members to remove their personnal belongings from lockers and that's basically all the notice said.

  7. I'm having problems connecting to the on line queing system. Every time I try to click the on line queing button (red button) I get the Immigration page but the booking section in the centre of the page does not appear I get 'unable to connect' message. I have clicked the block pop up window on Tools/options/content. If anyone can help I would be grateful.

    Thanks

    John

  8. Thanks for that, I will give it a try.

Try DK'S Book Store parking lot on Khoichasan Road on the east side of the moat directly across from Mad Dogs. Lock gated after about 7PM and security guard. I use it all the time. Tip the guard.

  9. When I go into town for a few beers I always take public transport, as I do not want to drink and drive. Does anyone know if there is a safe place to park over night so I could take my car in the evening and pick it up the following day.

  10. For the last two years I have used the combination of income and money in the bank for my Retirement Visa, adding up to the 800,000 Baht requirement. I had also topped up my bank account a few days before my visa renewal to make the 800,000 combination. Now it appears that the money has to be transfered 3 months before. I understood that this applied to the 800,000 Baht in the bank option, ( even though I never understood why) but not the combination option. Can any one advise me on this.

    Regards

    John

  11. A Thai visa can never be transferred to another passport. Only the current permitted to stay stamp is (and suspect that may be what you mean?). Or are you talking about one year extensions of stay?

You need a new passport if you plan to return to Thailand (and you should have obtained it some time ago). You can not obtain a new visa or entry into Thailand on your current passport so you must obtain a new one now. Then leave to obtain a new visa or visit Immigration for a new extension of stay. If extension of stay they can be obtained up to 30 days early so only one visit would be required in any case.

Sorry I should have made it clear I already live in Thailand, Chiangmai,

  12. My visa is due to expire on 2 Oct and my passport expires on 29 Oct. Would I correct in thinking I should I get my passport renewed now and not after my visa is renewed, as the passport should have at least a year left. If I renew my passport now could I wait until Oct, visa renewal, to have the visa transferred to my new passport and save two visit to the Immigration office within a couple of weeks? Any comment would be appreciated.

  13. I have read that for the retirement visa extension, that money, 800,00 or 400,000 for combination option has to be in a bank account 3 months before the application is made, I have also read that you must have the money, in the account on the day of application, meaning that you can transfer money to top up your balance a few days before you apply.

One more query my visa extension expires 2 Oct 09, so my next via extension will expire on 2/3 Oct 2010, however my passport expires 29 Oct 2010 will I need a new passport for this coming visa new extension, again I've read that a passport should have a minimum of 18 months left or is this for first time applicants?

    Any comments would be welcome.

  14. Can anyone offer me some advice. I'm and UK citizen, 54 and married to a Thai national (11years). At the moment I have a retirement 'O' visa, renewed last Oct. I have read some articles regarding the marriage visa. I'm interested in this as the financial requirements do not appear to be as stringent as for those of the retirement visa, (especially now as the pound appears to losing value every day).

I have been told that getting this visa can take up to 3 months as it has to go back to Bangkok for approval, is this true and when would I apply for the visa, any time or when my current one expires.

    Any comments would appreciated

  15. I have been told that if you have a combination of say 35,000 Baht per month and 400,000 Baht in the bank that this has to go to Bangkok for approval and it could take up to 3 months. I live in Chinagmai if that is of any help, is this the way they do things here or is it government policy.

I prefer to keep as much money overseas as the interest rates are much higher than here in Thailand.

I look forward to any comments.

    Thanks in advance

    John
