  1. Mr Smith , you are in a minority of about three I would think at the most. Despite your years here you have forgotten that if you - the farang were not here, it would not have happened, so it is of course your fault.

At the beginning of this year one of my dogs found it self under the wheels of a motor scooter, she was spooked by a noisy exhaust, the young girl riding the scooter unfortunately went flying over the handle bars and ended up in a crumpled heap, - many tears, lots of broken plastic and a large crowd on the scene.

Despite all the usual - underage/no licence/tax/insurance and tearing along, I paid for everything, luckily my wife knew the girls family, everything settled up later on.

End of the day, it was the farang's dogs fault

Correct , it was the owners fault ( that is why almost all thais will say " thats not my dog " ) .i ran over one on my bike in cambodia ( had me off and in hos[ital ) the locals offered to serve it to me for lunch, i swear this is true,. :bah:
  2. Hope you at least have her Thai ID number. With that and a few "friends" of either the brown shirt (police) and/or detective ilk and some $ you can most likely get a handle on which slimy rock this skank slithered off to and... Oh... By the way... Wouldn't do the same again if I were you. :whistling:

"How to become a millionaire in Thailand?? :jap: Come as a billionaire"

Whats the bet he dosent know her real ( thai) name and couldnt find his way back to the village without her,
  3. Classic here - as usual. Absentee relationships do not work. As to the family saying 'we couldn't find her' - wake up buddy. Then there is the cost of construction. 6.4M Baht? Mate looking at what is there you have - no more than 2M Baht based on what I have built (a lot here) and the rest is in her families and her pockets. You cannot bulldoze it legally either. You have been done and in the classic of all statements - the walking 'ATM' stamped on your forehead works in conjunction with 'shit for brains'.

Right now as is often said - you can take the girl out of the bar but you can't take the bar out of the girl. If you 'really' wish to find her, go look in another bar. Really ... grow up! ermm.gif

"Absentee relationships do not work" , Well with prostitutes they surely dont, .to the op, i wouldnt bother trying to find her, let this be a (very ) expensive lesson, and move on,
  4. Not true... If he is at the wrong lane, it will be his fault... But then again, this is Thailand and we should try to avoid killing the natives... It looks bad...

I tend to just drive the same way if they come against me, not slowing down, not moving aside, I presume that they know what they are doing...

Not true ?.well i was turning left out of foodland 2 lane highway, looked left and right, nothing, looked right again nothing, pulled out, bang, hit a bike on my side of the road coming in the oppisite direction, cop came 6000 baht to be paid to the bike rider, we have no RIGHTS in Thailand, or to confer, we dont have the same rights in Thailand,

"I had no worries until I happened upon this forum two days ago. While I don't adhere to a policy of "ignorance is bliss", fear mongering (rumors) is not exactly what I'm after. I can't help but wonder if some on this forum are purposefully trying to cause problems/market upset."<br><br><br>Couldn't agree more. Think the worst offenders are the idiots who say don't buy more than you can afford to lose.... There are no rights for foreigners in Thailand..... Thais hate us..... Nobody ever made money investing in Thailand etc, etc, etc whilst they sit in a 3,000 Baht a month rental condo in Soi Khaotalow dreaming about getting enough money for their next hourly girlfriend....
<br><br>whilst i dont think i have ever wrote any of the above statements ,i do think there is some truth in them and im not sitting in a 3000 bt rental condo in soi khao talo(not sure there are any condos in that road to be honest.....lots of villages and shop houses). i have condos and houses for rent here so i am an investor and get a small return.<br>when you buy a condo off plan then you have to be careful as you are putting a deposit on ..well nothing to be honest so if it dont happen you would lose it,and usually they say"don't buy more than you can afford to lose" more when it comes to buying a house in a thai ladies name or a bar  which actually is good advice as many HAVE lost there house!! <br>there are less rights here for foreigners, yes we have rights but its very very difficult to do anything here with out the bribes etc to get someone in authority to uphold any of our rights and to be honest a thai gets a lot better response when shit hits the fan for them.<br>"thais hate us" is extreme for sure ,i just say they prefer our money to actually having us here with it as it takes a little effort to seperate us from it.<br>"Nobody ever made money investing in Thailand" of course again is untrue as there are many foreigners here who can make some money but its true its not easy to make money here as there are many difficulties to overcome....you can make a return on investment here but its only small..usually 5 to 10 percent and even then has risks due to thai laws for foreigners etc,a farang who makes very good money here is indeed lucky and usually has a lot of thai people connected to his business/investment. usually its those that plan to open a bar/shop/restaurant that this statement would ring true in 99.9 percent of cases.<br>so even though the idiots you talk about may be really negative its probably a lot better than saying everything is great and easy and thais love us etc as then new investors will be given a very false impression .....there are a lot of problems that can and do occur here regularly(especially pattaya) as it is a popular place for many scammers to do well.<br>as to the suan sawarn project and this thread then the problem is people being told different things by the office workers and therefore no one knows what to believe as if the story stayed the same each time then there would be no thread and we all know that if a project is in trouble then its vary rare to get the truth until too late. <img src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":o"><br>
Anyone thats disagrees with your post has either never been in business in thailand or is blinkered by a fixed pension /living i would say, <br><br><br>
  6. farang ting tong...

This is 2010 and you don't have to pay for a Thai girl anymore...

Sure there are ones you can pay for but there is also an abundance of "normal" Thai girls.. educated/single/financially independant just waiting on the sidelines like wall flowers to be picked up...

Find them in the gym / sports clubs not in your local massage or go go bar....

Anyone who pays for a Thai wife and family with all the information at hand now on the internet is just bonkers... IMHO..

    Anyway upto you...makes interesting reading....

Absolutely true, but we don't know what the OP and his wife look like and how old they are. An ugly 50 year old trying to pick up a nice white office maiden might have a problem. However, there are plenty of old maids out there who are still open to offers and who still have decent jobs. Maybe too much effort? But way less problems in the long term.

The FIL cockfights. Great job. He's really working hard.

its usually young guys that keep bringing up the age difference as it seems they are jealous, however its not just thailand where an old fart can get a bird ! .....

  7. Read the small print and disclaimers from any of the international couriers. Read the small print and disclaimers on eBay as well. When you ship ANYTHING of ANY COMMERCIAL VALUE to ANY OVERSEAS country, you MAY be liable to locally levied duties and taxes. End of story. Just because you have pieces of paper saying it's broken means nothing to Customs agents anywhere. As you already pointed out, IF it is repairable, it's worth something. Customs agents know that as well.

DHL, FedEx and UPS's CORE business is shipping stuff globally so in order to stay in business and protect that revenue stream, they are COMPELLED to observe the law regards verifying what people say is in the package is actually in the package. Just because you pay +45 quid to ship something to a mate on the other side of the planet, the cost does NOT preclude your goods from inspection and being evaluated for any duties and tariffs, broken or otherwise.

If you have any questions, come back and post.

You are missing my point mate, the phone was to be sent back to the uk, also they want the 7750baht paid into a private bank account ( i have the bank account details ) .This is a little odd dont you think ..so to quote me the laws and customs here dont really tally .DHL are in on this for sure as the email is from them and dosent include their share/charges which is payable on delivery, ( which wont happen )

Why is the fact it was going to be sent back to the UK relevant? Dont get this...

Usually DHL will issue 2 invoices. One will be for their handling fee which is paid to them and one will be for import duty which, although they issue the charge advice, it is payable to a different account which is that of the Thai Customs.

How do you know this is a private account? Does it have someones name on it?

Yes ,its a private bank account and an individuals name,. and you can import temporarily which i asked for,

  9. Why not make a formal complaint I know rolling on the floor laughing but if you have private bank account details and instructions this would be a prime opportunity to get the press involved and write letters print his details and make an issue of it hel_l post it on Abhisits facebook page and let him now

If abhisit is going to start cleaning things up he can start with your one

If you are telling the truth that its a broken tel and have legitimate receipts and are being honest nothing will change until everyone that has an issue liek this complains and now there is a direct route to the PM (facebook) use it as a complaint for all the Corruption

Laughable yes but if you dont do shit and just accept the fact you have lost money then Som nom Nah

What are the chances that his complaint will come to haunt him even more later. Disgruntled customs official might want to extract some revenge ph34r.gif

Yes this was my thoughts also,.

You guys must be either Thai or have lived here long enough to start thinking like them.

Because this is exactly the attitude that festers corruption.

Nope, we are farang, but we have been here long enough to know that we wont make one iota of difference to the way thais work,if you think otherwise i wish you luck,.

  11. Took some friends there aweek ago ,now all katoeys and Tony Turner as i see it is struggling to keep a sunken boat afloat, the place is dismal with forward facing seats and NO FOOD,we were a "crowd " of 8 at 10pm when Tony came on, i feel sorry for him, ( have you seen his toyota yaris and mazda 2 .jeez, )

  12. To my way of thinking , a broken anything is usefull only for parts , could you not have declared it as such say for $10.00 ? Over the years we have imported many component assemblies that were stripped and imported into Canada in a couple of packages as 'spare parts', no customs duty

    Just a thought .

Thanks, but importing into Canada has no resemblance to Thailand , the phone was bought on ebay by a friend for 65 pounds, we included the payment receipt, there is no doubt that they think we are trying it on and they see this as a way to suppliment their wages,
  13. Its all we can expect in a city of prostitutes/pimps and their offspring serving in a lot of cases all the scum/ criminals that descend on the place, for the decent amongst us im afraid we have to put up with all the sh!t that goes with it or move on,.:)

  14. Had a box arrive from the uk in 3 days, 11 days later its still on customs hold, its a broken sony satio phone a friend has sent me to fix, delcared at 65 pounds, they have just asked me for 7500 baht taxes , paid into a private bank account,,as you can imagine i have told them to &lt;deleted&gt; off and enjoy their ( broken ) phone ,.this is not the first time its happened either,,be aware, imports can be VERY expensive,.

  15. All the relevant information is in the link provided.
Thanks for your help, we have been together in thailand for 3.5 years with our 8 year old daughter, ( she has a british passport ) ,i retired here, however circumstances have changed and we are moving back, it has been suggested as we are all travelling back together that its very unlikely that she will have a problem at heathrow, but we intend to do it right,
  16. Don't cock around any more, get down to the police station will all of your paper work, tell the police there is a 25k reward to the first policeman that brings his daughter back.

Get the mother in law arrested and tell the police you want to press full charges with your lawyer in a criminal court.

Your wife will contact the old bitch and you'll get you kid back faster then you could imagine possible.

    DON'T DICK AROUND ANY MORE!

I agree, grab the bull by the horns, AND plant some red herrings for the wife just in case,..Let this be a warning to all you farang husbands to be, choose your parter/spouse very carefully, as we can see some thai families can be totally without heart and savage like, im also a bit concerned about possible repercussions to some of the posters ideas, i dont envy you my friend, :)
