  1. Your old UK passport has been cancelled at the airports (not sure about land crossings). Wherever you leave at you'll have to show both passports and they will stamp your newer passport and link the info into their computers.

No need to go to any main immigration office because they cannot swap the stamps over as your new passport was issued outside of Thailand.

You should not be in possession of 2 valid passports. Cut the corner off your old one.

  2. Diplomatic or official passport perhaps?

Possibly, but I think he would have known if it was one of the above. He reckoned it was perhaps due to a reciprocation of immigration procedures between the two countries. Similar perhaps to Kiwis getting 90 days on arrival whereas most everyone else got 30 days because Thais were allowed easy entry into NZ?

I dunno. Surely we have some Norwegian members here that could clarify the issue?

  3. Take no notice from what the other dude said, you cannot get a 12 month None Immigrant "0" Visa from Penang, they will only give you a single entry 90days None Immigrant "0" visa, because i was there last week, and now im going back to the UK to get a 12 month one.

Davo, I picked up my multi non imm O a few days ago (8th Nov.). Only photocopy of marriage paper and 1 photo was asked for, along with form and fee of 220 SGD.

Btw, for Norwegians the visa is free apparently. Lucky sods. :D

Norwegians have to pay the prescribed fees for their visa's :D

Sorry for any confusion ref. obtaining multi from Penang. I meant originally to suggest to 'Davo' to go to Singapore instead of Penang to obtain a multi.

Dr PP, when waiting to hand in my application for a multi, a Norwegian guy next to me saw the fee in my hand and enquired if they were now charging for multis. I told him that it's always been the case. He reckoned he's never had to pay for his visas. He went to the counter before me and I didn't notice him handing over any money, even when I had to hand him the numbered security tag that he dropped while at the counter.

We met again when picking up our passports and he showed me the blank space on his visa where the fee is printed and started to jokingly rub it in that I had to pay.

Could there be any circumstances as to why he should not have to pay? :o

  4. from what ive read, IF i lost my passport, they cant really do anything??

now, im NOT TELLING ANYONE TO GO AND LOOSE THEIR PASSPORTS, IM MEARLY ASKING A QUESTION!!!

    WHAT IF???

Mike, this isn't directed at you but at those who are thinking of 'losing' a passport'.

If you 'lose' a passport in Thailand you'd have to obviously obtain a new one. When you get a new passport you then have to go to Suan Phlu (along with a police report which is easy enough to obtain) where immigration will then transfer info from your old passport.

From the bio info in your new pp they will retreive your TM card info. From this they will find your port of entry, type of visa or entry stamp, date of entry etc. You will be given a dated stamp according when you present immigration with your new passport. i.e. you entered Thailand on Nov 1st. You go to immigration on the Nov 15th with sob story. They should then give you a stamp that allows you to stay until Nov.29th.

If you lose two passports in Thailand either genuinely or 'accidentally on purpose' then expect to get pulled into the immigration office everytime you enter or leave Thailand. Your name will be in the immigrations computers.

I lost a pp in the early 90's. Never a problem. I thought I'd lost another pp around 1999/2000 and obtained a new one. That is when I started having problems entering and leaving Thailand. I kept getting taken into the office for questioning. On two occasions I almost missed flights because of it.

The pp that I thought I'd lost turned up in a deep inside pocket of an overcoat that I wore when arriving from Japan.

I took the 'newly found but reported lost' pp to immigration to clear my name from the immigration computers. It took 2-3 months and quite a few visits to Suan Phlu before they actually erased my name off their list.

Passports should not be treated like candy that you can buy at anytime. They are a valuable and important document. Without one, you're nobody. They're highly sort after by trafficers and other criminals hence why you can only lose one pp in Thailand without receiving any problems at immigration points.

If you lose a pp outside of Thailand, well, that a different story.

  6. Singapore are still issuing multi non-imm O visas. Just got mine yesterday (8th Nov.)

Only document I had to show was photocopy of marriage certificate. They didn't even want to see the original to compare it to. It's never been easier in all the 17 years of visa trips.

Airfare cost me 5,600b r/t with Finnair and 10,000b for visa, hotel (2 nights), food, transport etc.

  7. So...from now go on (for those people in my same conditions) three visa-run (90 days) and then "Thai embassy visa-run"....and no problem.... :o:D

No problem on paper but 3 X 30 day stamps actually only gives you 29 days on each stamp so you will lose 3 days which brings it down to 87 days not 90.

When doing same day border trips, your departure date of one stamp will be the same as the arrival date on your next one. So you'll lose another 2 days there too on overlapping stamps.

    3 X 30 day stamps= 85 days.

    Can anyone confirm this?

  8. I'm planning a visa run to Singapore soon for a non-imm O and was sorting through my documents separating all the originals and photocopies. Wife started looking through them and noticed that the photocopy of her ID card was out of date (It's been over two years since I last had a non-imm O)

The card on the photocopy had expired two years ago. Lucky for me that I didn't try and show this at the consulate.

Question is, had I noticed this myself only after leaving BKK and prior to going to the consulate, could I have showed instead only my childrens birth certificates and house registration for applying for a non-imm O? Would any other documents have been needed?

    Just curious.

  9. Also if I got a 1 year multi entry, do I just have to cross a border and come back again? - sounds like a dumb question, but I wouldn't want to lose it by not following the correct procedure.

    thanks for any advise!

Embassies and consulates issue 3 month non-imm visas and one year multiple entry non-imm visas. A one year multi entry non-imm visa can be veiwed as being 4 X 3 month non-imm visas in one.

Every 3 months just do a border run. Before the actual expiry date of the visa you can do a border run and receive another 3 months stay bringing you a total of 15 months.

  10. You can get off at the airport and take one of the buses as previously mentioned that runs between the two airports. Avoid rush hours and times of downpours as this will slow traffic to a standstill especially going down Phaholyothin Rd towards Ramintra. Traffic along Phaholyothin can be slow at the best of times due to all the traffic lights.

Best bet. Get off the Lopburi bus at Future Park Rangsit and take a taxi from there. Tell the driver to go along the Rangsit-Ongharok Rd (R33) towards Nakhon Nayok and then look for the signs along the way for Suvannabumi Airpot which will direct you onto the A9 ring road.

At a guess, the A9 ring road system is about 15km from Rangsit.

  11. Did my border hop yesterday (Oct.9th) and it was the quickest in an out time yet. 30 mins total.

Normally it's a minimum of 45 mins at Aranyaprathet. May not be to farangs leaving Thailand for good. I did notice there were no backpackers in sight though, possibly due to many provinces being flooded out? Hate to imagine what the Cambo roads will be like.

Got my VOA marked with a nice circled '1' in green ink.

  12. With all hubbub and sometimes confusing info with the recent visa changes, would it not be a good idea to have sub forums for each particular visa category?

That way all the relevant info and discussion regarding a particular visa can be found easily without having to read or skip through irrelevant posts/threads/enquiries/info etc., on other visa types.

    Just a thought.

  13. the visa exempt days (30 day stamps) are the ones where the 90 day rule counts. Completely different from arriving with a TOURIST visa (60+30).

Pretty simple actually. Yes - 1 tourist visa and 2 visaruns for you. Cheers!

Not so simple. One tourist visa (60day) and a VOA (30day) doesn't always add up to 90 days.

If you get the visas back-to-back by doing a same day border hop i.e. depart Thailand on a tourist visa and enter the same day and recieve a VOA, you'll lose a day because the departure and arrival dates will be the same.

  14. No, but you do have to do the equally degrading run to an Immigration Office to report every 90 days.

actually , there is nothing degrading in turning up just down the road and making the acquaintance of your local immigration officer. once your face is known there , things just seem to get friendlier and easier.

for those who do find it degrading , i believe you can do it by post.

So what exactly is degrading about going to a border to renew your visa?

It appears you have some prejudices there my friend.

    :o

Personally I've prefered doing monthly runs to the border as I've stated in older previous posts.

It gaurantees that I get out of the house and BKK every month and I often look forward to doing the runs because I make a two day holiday of it. Heck, I wouldn't mind even paying 1000baht for a special 30 day stamp every month if it would mean being able to continue doing runs every month.

Oh well, I guess it's back to going to Penang to get my visas, staying there a few days and spending money there instead of at Aranyaprathet or Mae Sot. It's a shame that some owners of hotels and food stalls in Aran won't be getting my custom anymore but it's been a real pleasure knowing them.

btw, what will happen to all the Malay tourists who cross the southern borders every weekend? Sometimes several times a week even? Surely alot of southerners won't be happen at the loss of tourist income.

  15. 87 octane in the US is approximately 91 octane in Thailand, and I say approximately because it is all statistical averages rounded off to the nearest whole number. A couple of tenths of an octane really doesn't mean that much, although in some cars it might, and that is why the owner's manual always says if your car isn't running so good on a particular brand and/or from one station, try to change the brand or the station you go to.

I've used 91 on the HD a couple of times and on both occasions got a severe knocking when riding up hills or accelerating hard (both while riding 2 up). I don't know the brands but I always stay away from the brand look-a-likes.

  16. Thanks Higgy.

I have read that statement by HD in their owners and workshop manuals.

It should also be noted that the HD manuals recommend using an octane rating of 87 or higher. All very well if you're in the USA but the equivalent octane rating for 87 in Thailand is above 91 here.

So if anyone has a vehicle that can't run on gasohol and they're advised to run it on 91 octane, check the source of information. Not all countries have the same ratings.

  17. NP Ticket Attendant. Hi.

Tour Guide/Van Driver. Hi. Listen, I've got a shit-load of Korean tourists in the van who've already paid me 200b each. Let them gain admittance for 20b each and I'll give you 20b for each one.

NP Ticket Attendant. OK. But in September the fees are going up to a whopping 400b.

Tour Guide/Van Driver.Wow! Really? Glad I'm not a stupid tourist. Ok, no problem. Then in future it looks like we'll be making more money out of these guests to our wonderful country.

NP Ticket Attendant.Yes, that has crossed my guilt-free conscious mind too.

    Tour Guide/Van Driver. Bye.

    NP Ticket Attendant. Bye.
