  1. Lot's of good precautions here. Thanks from several months into the future. I have been using Transferwise to build a history of transfers. From what you say,. I should also have a pension statement when I go for renewal. The reason for recyle of portion of the money is that I don't use that much money, and I prefer not to continually amass an excess of money in baht.

As you all probably know, Transferwise transfers "for long term stay in Thailand" deposited into Bangkok Bank are no longer certain to be coded FTT. I did a trial yesterday and it was not coded FTT.

Has anyone used OFX? I am preparing a trial after speaking to one of their staff. Another thing I have been unable to do with .....Wise, in spite of the fact that they instruct one to log in and get personal questions answered.

    Thanks to all who contributed.

@tjansen The problem you are experiencing is why I closed my PayPal account a couple of years ago. I was being asked to change/verify my password EVERY time I tried to log in to pay for something. I think the messages ARE from PayPal and not a scam. I reported this to PP several times but could not get the issue resolved to my satisfaction. After about 20-30 times I got sick and closed the account.

Great that's what I want to do. Did you find a good replacement for PayPal?

  3. Help please on the safe use of paypal or even better, an alternative to use.

I don't even know that the website that I reach is a spoof or genuine. Therefore, I cannot do anything. Whèn I entered my email and password, I was presented with two sign in blocks telling me to change and confirm my password. No mention of my name. When I send it to spoof, I get an auto reply that is totally irrelevant.

I anticipate a problem even closing my account.

I would appreciate detailed guidance on closing my paypal and then secondarily replacing paypal.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

You can apply for a extension by showing 12 months of transfers from abroad that are 65k or more.

After the 65k baht is in your account you do what your want with it. I suggest if you want to transfer some of it out of the country I suggest you do a domestic transfer to another account before doing a foreign transfer.

ubonjoe, your answer is very useful. Thanks a lot.

Can I use the "income combined with bank account" method with transfers? e.g. 32.5k per month (65/2) and 400,000 in the bank with all of the proper account aging.

  5. Hello, I have a question about replacing the former Embassy letter with monthly transfers, and I am hoping to get the usual informed assistance from Thaivisa Forum members.

-I am a US citizen, currently using 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for my visa retirement extension.

-I had used the incomer voucher letter from my US embassy for a few years until that option was removed.

-I live in Ratchaburi province and use the Immigration office in Ratchaburi.

-QUESTION 1: Can I personally transfer, monthly, at least 65,000 baht into my bank account in a single transaction each month for a period of twelve months initially, then continuing on into the future, to satisfy the income requirement for retirement extension of my visa?

-QUESTION 2: Is it permissible to transfer a portion of that money back out of my account ongoing?

I am hoping to hear from anyone with either direct experience doing this or certain knowledge of someone doing it. Thank you very much in advance.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Jansen

  6. I am using my first ever wetsuit for swimming in a pool. It is tight in the crotch and tends to 'displace' the nuts up into the groin, especially when it is cold. I am thinking a groin protector cup would help. Any suggestions or ideas would be useful.

The material of the wetsuit is 90% neoprene, 10% nylon. I have seen suggestions to alter the suit with neoprene and glue and don't know how that would work.

I live in Ratchaburi Province and would like to know the best source for any suggestions, e.g.

-Exactly what cup would be recommended. There is a very large selection on the internet. I think if I could get one by mail within Thailand it would be good, but only if someone could recommend a good choice.

-If modifying the suit is recommended, where would I get the materials and any guidelines to use.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I am kind of counting on the wetsuit for continuing to swim in an outdoor pool during cold season. My body becomes a bit stressed after 30-45 minutes of swimming in cold water.

Thanks a lot, in advance, for any ideas.

  7. Yaay, I coaxed the Panasonic heater into allowing the water to flow and to heat. The basic premise is that the unit needs enough pressure to activate the pressure switch, then it needs enough flow to activate the heater(s).

With the cover off, I saw what I believe to be the pressure switch activate. I didn't actually see the flow switch, but there is a chamber with an inlet opening and a small exit hole in the other end. I would say that maybe it will indicate flow by bleeding off enough water through the small hole to keep pressure at that point within a certain range.

Pressure is applied by opening the supply valve, and it is increased by choking down on the exit valve. Not enough choking down, not enough pressure. Too much choking down, not enough flow. Playing with the balance with the mixing valve open and turned to hot got the flow of hot water going. Then I just left the valves alone and turned the shower on and off a couple of times. I may have to tweak it later, but now I know how to do it.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

  8. Hello, well I got my Panasonic tankless water heater Model DH-6GM4 leak fixed at a local shop, and now I have re-installed it, and I am encountering a problem that I had and accidentally resolved a while back.

What I would like to obtain is an online instruction manual. I have been searching for a while but haven't found one yet.

Here is the problem. When I turned the shower on, I could hear water start to flow through the heater then suddenly stop. When I turn the temperature control water knob to cold, I get water, but to the left, hot, there is no flow. I am thinking that the inlet pressure as well as the flow rate have to be in the right range or the heater shuts off to protect itself. In the last go-around, I was tweaking knobs around, not really knowing what I was doing, when suddenly everything sprang to life and has been working ever since.

So, I think I need to find out what the set-up sequence is to get both pressure and flow rate in range to allow proper operation.

I also realize that the internal temperature protectors may be tripped, so I will push down on those (with the power off) before starting the set-up.

    Any help will be appreciated.

P.S. By the way, I don't think it is a clogged filter because when I take the water exit hose loose and turn on the water supply to the heater, water flows through the filter and the heater very freely. This is with the power off and water just free-flowing through the unit with no controls activated.

  9. Thanks a lot for the three replies. I have an inquiry in with Numchai and also plan to call the SN Parts number when my gf is available to help with translation. And Lobburi 3, If I can't get the part through the mail, your suggestion to buy a new unit will probably be the solution of choice, as it is, indeed an older unit.

I am attaching a photo of the unit, which I included in my inquiry to Numchai. I have sent a message, in English, via their Chat feature. If that doesn't work, I will give them a call, again when I have translation available.

Thanks again for your very useful suggestions.

  10. Does anyone know where I can order replacement parts for a Panasonic DH- 6GM4? I either need an exact size o-ring or a replacement for the plastic pressure switch. I think that's what it is. It is spraying water out of the connection between the pressure switch and a copper chamber above that. The plastic connection looks like it could be cracked. I replaced the O-ring with one I had on hand with no improvement.

    Thank you.

  11. Thanks very much for all the replies. Sorry about the late response. I was waiting for email notification that there were replies, but I had an obsolete email address in my profile.

Yes, this is what I was looking for, from the chart from Chickenslegs and from Metropolitan. 2.1 and 2.8. My nameplate says 2.2 for cut-in and no info for cutout. That is close enough to buy a tank.

The info was probably in the other two posts as well. So, thanks to all.

  12. Hello, I am looking to buy a pressure tank, and I would like to know the cutoff pressure of my pump. It is a Mitsubishi EP-305Q5, photo attached. The nameplate is in Thai, and I think the On Pressure is 2.2 kg / cm2, which I believe is around 30 psig. I don't see anything that looks like it might be the cutoff pressure. I am thinking it should be something like 50 psig, or around 1.65X2.2 kg / cm2 or around 3.5 kg / cm2. I don't see anything on the name plate that is close to that number.

I am trying to learn how to size a tank, and I am thinking I need both cut-in and cut-out pressure, especially for any safety pop-off. Thanks for any help.

The Pattaya City Expats Club has an information page on transferring funds into Thailand: http://www.pattayacityexpatsclub.com/expats/docs/TRANSFERRING-FUNDS.pdf

I used to use the domestic ACH transfers through Bangkok Bank NY branch, but switched to Transferwise (TW) when Bangkok Bank announced they would cease accepting domestic ACH transfers - the International ACH Transfer format they will accept, unfortunately, is not provided to retail customers by most if not all US banks.

TW does the exchange but at a generally good rate very close to what Thai banks offer (onshore rate) but fees are a bit higher but still more favorable than my bank's int'l wire transfer charge.  TW has several different funding methods - I use the ACH pull from my US bank account.  TW uses at least 2 partner banks in Thailand - Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank.  Last July there was a big fiasco when most Bangkok Bank account holders had their transfer routed through Kasikorn Bank resulting their deposit being coded as a SMART (domestic) transfer rather than FTT (international).  This of course causes a problem for those using the transfers to meet Thai Immigration requirements for extension of stay.   However, apparently because of many inquiries/complaints, TW add another "reason" to their drop down list which was for "long stay" in Thailand -- since then, it appears that all with Bangkok Bank accounts using that reason have had their funds go to Bangkok Bank and are coded FTT.  More information is available in the Transferwise Solutions Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2432994320280784.

Very informative. As of a little while ago, I switched to Transferwise. Once I got the procedure down, it went pretty well. And everything you said is accurate. A very fair exchange rate, and a fee that seems to work out to around 1+ percent. Actually Bangkok Bank's fee is 0.25 percent if I were to transfer dollars to BKK, but their exchange rate seemed slightly worse than Transferwise. Without getting too detailed, I went ahead and used TW for the experience.

  14. AS of a couple of months ago, maybe December, money can no longer be transferred from a US bank to the Bangkok Bank branch in New York. Money was rejected by BKK. A call to BKK in Bangkok revealed that that practice no longer works.

Anyone have any other suggestions for ongoing, inexpensive transfer methods, including a favorable exchange rate? It is sounding like transferring USD to BKK might be the best way to handle the exchange rate issue, as BKK, in my experience, gives a very reasonable rate differential, or whatever you would call it. Not so, however, with my US bank.

If that proves true, that leaves the charge for the transfer on both ends. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Preferably based on recent experience, as conditions do indeed arise and pass away. Anicca.

  15. I have a non-critical document that I need to get "notarized". I have heard that there is no such thing as a notary service in Thailand. I just need an inexpensive service that will Stamp & Seal a document with the word notary in it someplace. Thanks for any help

  16. I had my shortest international visit last year when I flew to Myanmar from Thailand, not even thinking about needing a visa. I have a US passport. When I got to immigration in Myanmar with no visa, they directed me back to the plane I had just left, and I took the return trip to Bangkok. I realized at that point that the airline should have checked for a visa before giving me a boarding pass. And of course, I should have checked on visa requirements. It seemed that both I and the airline had egg on our face.

When I asked about a visa on arrival, the officer told me that I could have gotten one, but it would have had to be arranged in advance, I believe by letter.

  17. Hello, and thanks for all of the input. If this idea is helpful to anyone, here is my plan. In Ratchaburi, the officer said we could apply for the annual extension for retirement one month early. So I plan to go a month early, with my usual documents in hand, and if they say I need something else, hopefully I will have time to get it and make a return trip, on time. If I should miss the time and have to start all over, that is what I'll do. If they charge me any fines, I will smile and pay. A sort of meditation for me and conducive to peace of mind.

    Similar to Lungbing's comment.

  18. Thanks to Thurien, Ubonjoe, and I'm a Farang for your replies. One thing in particular that I have read online is that some places are requiring back up proof of the pension. I suppose I will bring a simple photocopy of my pension income statement, just in case.

As for the proof of residence, my experience has been similar. I bring it along but haven't been asked for it. This year I have to switch from Nakon Pathom to Ratchaburi, a new office, and that is why I was specific in my question. I suppose to be safe, I should also update my proof of residence.
