  1. We've all see grossly overloaded vehicles, like the elephants in the back of a regular pickup truck or entire families on scooters. The worst I've seen is 7 teenage students with a guitar and small amplifier squeeze their way onto a scooter. Two of them were standing and leaning outwards, one holding the guitar and the other holding the amplifier while their buddies anchored them. It looked very much like a circus act. It was at a beach and everybody nearby was howling with laughter as the scooter slowly started to move. Amazingly, they made it up the hill going away from the beach, but what happened after that I'm afraid to think about.

  2. Man o man, what a wild thread. Between the personal insults / threats between members and the variety of advise, forums don't get much more entertaining (in a bit of a perverse way, unfortunately).

IMHO the most sensible advise is to not retaliate (immediately, anyway). This will surely escalate into something very unpleasant and perhaps even tragic in the end.

I favour the idea of bringing a BIB connection into the picture. At the very least, this would send the message that the perpetrator's actions are not being taken lightly, and may scare him enough to settle him down and not vandalize your car or any of your property again.

However, if some sort of retaliation is the preference, I would be tempted to abandon the parking space and instead buy some horrible old piece of sh*t car to park there 24/7 -- one that is very old and ugly. This way he can scratch it as much as he likes while it drives him crazy. Park it there in the middle of the night, and when he asks about it, the OP should just say, "Must look after house." repeatedly or some similar drivel. In essence, this will become his new lawn ornament and will most certainly send him to the loony bin. I'm sure the OP can find some awful old near-wreck for very little money that should suit the purpose very well.

  3. A real setup it seems.

Looks like it was from the beginning, love can be blind and one sided.

hmmmm....blind and one-sided. I wonder if that's where the expression "blindsided" comes from.

    1. blindsidedpast participle, past tense of blind side (Verb)
      1. Hit or attack (someone) on the blind side: "Jenkins blindsided Adams".2. Catch (someone) unprepared; attack from an unexpected position.

    (From Wikipedia)

Joking aside, I'm sorry to hear about your rotten situation. Good luck with it.

    How about.....

there's no fool like an old fool

    One born every minute

    a fool and his money.........

    "no country for old men

Actually, I was just making a play on words.

In no way at all have I intended to criticize what appears to be a victim by calling him a fool or old, and hopefully nobody else interpreted my post that way.

Now I remember why I haven't logged on here for ages.

  5. Incredibly pendantic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL

At least get the word right and don't make up one of your own. (pedantic)

    LOL

Just a test to see how pedantic you are, and you really are amazing.

Do you crawl trough ALL the posts looking for typos???

But you win villagefarang! It's your kind of idiotic and silly behaviour that makes this forum very unpleasant, so this WILL BE my last post ever.

No need reply with one of your asinine comments because I won't even bother logging in again to see it.

  7. I understand that's it's no attack, and I don't take it the way, but I'm sure almost everybody could see what I meant about it not being mentioned is that it's not the place people think to go when looking for some feminine companionship. Anybody who has talked to even a few bar girls in Pattaya, Patpong, etc. quickly learn that the answer from a bar girl to the question, "Where are you from?" will usually get the answer "Isaan". And yes, I know CR is not in Isaan, but it's in Northern Thailand. so we can quickly see that a very high percentage of BG's working in BKK or Pattaya come from the north of the country.

I've got admit that I haven't chatted up a BG in a long time, but thinking about it now, when I was much more active at the Pattaya bars years ago, I rarely recall hearing any other answer to the question than "Isaan". So, my impression is that there may be many BG's working in BBK from CR but not many in Pattaya.

No no no…Chiang Rai and Isaan are not one and the same. Not even close. You will get yourself in no end of trouble trying to say they are. Different language, food, customs. There is strong regional and class identification in Thailand and you still have a lot to learn. Put you foot in it big time.

    LOL Can you not read?!?!?!?!?

I said I know CR is NOT in Isaan. Take a little time to absorb the info before you start hammering away on the keyboard. I simply said that they're both in Northern Thailand. There is nothing in my statement that should give the impression that I'm comparing their customs and culture with similarity.

Sheesh, this forum can be discouraging!!!!

They are not Northern Thailand. The are north of Bangkok but Isaan is east, CM and CR are north. BGs are indeed Isaan but the CR girls work elsewhere. The areas are not the same and cannot be lumped into Northern Thailand. They are very different regions. Just try telling a CR girl that she is the same or comes from the same place as an Isaan girl and see how far that gets you.

    Incredibly pendantic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL

  9. This thread is just too ^%$#* hilarious. We have folks here who married bar girls slagging off someone coming on a holiday with hopes of getting lucky. We have "I never paid for it" playboys who have converted to white knightism making dire warnings about how future visitors had better behave.

But what takes the cake is trying(?) to dis-associate Chiang Rai with nightlife:

As others have mentioned, CR isn't exactly the first name that's blurted out when people talk about prostitution in Thailand.*

Actually, it often is .. especially among Thais. Chiang Rai has supplied more than a fair (?) share of their damsel population to the nightlife industry all over Thailand. Northern women, especially CR women, are sought after for their beauty, light skin .. and their parents' willingness to sell them into the nightlife industry.

For those who feel the need to defend their wives and family from the mere thought of ... perhaps a glance in the mirror and an honest recollection of their own past is in order.

Just as Thailand, Chiang Rai is what it is .. and no amount of chest thumping, flag waving and lance wielding will change that.

Edit: [*]No attack on Beacher, just to make a point.

  10. Fortunately Chiang Rai isn't a popular destination for sex tourists and it would be nice if it stayed that way. The more sex tourists that come here will increase the amount of sex workers and it will then, slowly but surely, become like many other sleaZy places that can be found in Thailand. Why can't he come here and enjoy Chiang Rai as it is without having to pay for a girls company while he's here?

Did the OP ask about places with sex workers? Can't believe you guys in CR think in such a sleazy way :D

The OP just asked for places with female entertainment.

If he wants bars with girls to sit and chat with, then head down Chet Yot Road (a turning off the clock tower roundabout). If he wants female companions karaoke style, then go to the Wiang Inn Hotel (he may be able to get a special massage there, too) or one of the karaoke joints along Phaholyothin Road. If he wants to meet some of the nice young locals, then he could check out one of the many local night spots - Sperm, Par Club, The Womb or Where Else. If he's not a conversationalist, then tell him to ask a tuk-tuk driver for some action.

    Have fun!

    Sperm!!! The Womb!!!!

OMG - I expect all those members of the "Christian Movement for Paranoia and Prudence" that were so vocal in the first few replies will be torching these blasphemous dens of inequity very soon. Imagine that !!!! In pure and god-fearing CR, people would have the audacity to open such horrible places. LOL :)

The OP's friend is automatically labeled a sex tourist because he asks about places to meet girls? C'mon, it's obvious that ThaiVisa has a very strong gay influence, but us heterosexuals aren't jumping all over posts by the gay members when they ask about the wheres, whys, and hows involved in their sexual preference. There seems to be a very good live and let live approach to the high number of gays who post on here, so let's be fair to the hetros as well. Straight Pride, baby!!!

Amazing to see so many people decide that if a guy wants to have sex with a girl in Thailand, he's a pervert. Hilariously twisted sh*t, that is.

The Sperm and Womb bars are actually just normal bars but with odd names, nothing sleazy about them despite their name. They are in the main entertainment area of Chiang Rai for Thai's around the big Par Club. The main area that farang tend to hang out is Jetyod Rd in the centre. There is no Christian movement as far as I'm aware but I'd hate for CR to turn into somewhere that farang visit mainly for the ready supply of girls for sale, like every service provided, it's all about supply and demand and the more farang who visit who will pay for the services of a girl then the more that industry will grow. Is the ops friend not able to have a normal relationship with a girl instead of paying for her company? There are already far too many farang who think that every Thai girl is for sale regardless of where they are, the more that small towns and villages cater for people with these views then this will just get worse.

I was in a 7/11 not so long ago with my wife when I noticed an odd-looking chap staring at me and following me round. He then cornered me and asked me where the bars are where he can get a girl like I had. I live and let live but maybe that's why I'm not a great fan of CR attracting sex tourists and I don't see why I should have to hear sh1t like that just because of a stereotype that is only going to get worse if places like CR change for the worse. This is where I intend to raise a family and If I were to have a daughter I'd hate for some old desperado in 16-18yrs time to presume she was a whore just because she happens to be (50%) Thai.

I completely understand what you're saying, and I hope you realize that I was being facsicious. As others have mentioned, CR isn't exactly the first name that's blurted out when people talk about prostitution in Thailand. As a matter of fact, it's probably never mentioned (unless joking) so I wouldn't worry about it being flooded with devient sex tourists.

However, one thing that comes across in this thread is that there seems to be no grey area when it come to hiring a women for a night of passion. The general concensus seems to be that if you ever hire a woman of the night, you're a devient, plain and simple. Isn't there any middle ground or sympathy for the extremely shy or exceedingly unattractive? Amazing how many people in this thread ride very high up on their pure white horses looking down at those who are possibly very desperate for some intimate conact with a woman. Is there no chance that the OP's friend falls into these catagories of shyness or unattractiveness? I've put the sentence above in bold lettering because this type of question has come up several times. So, perhaps that answer is, "No, he can't." And that could be due to a physical or personality realted situation. Admittly, the OP's friend could also simply be a boorish jerk with no real respect for women, but I don't think it's fair for so many to hold their high and mighty ground, condemming this person without trying to see that every sutuation has more than one perspective.

  11. Take a baseball bat to his kneecaps - it works in New Jersey.

I hate admit it, but this is more along my line of thinking.

We who have lived here for a long time have heard your story many many times. As frustrating as it may seem, what everybody has said about having no solid legal recourse available to you is true. And even if you were successful in a court of law, actually getting the money from him is unlikely.

You mentioned that he will shed crockodile tears then be found at the bar with 3 ladies in tow. Also, that he is trying to find new victims. I think those facts would bother me more than being had for 200,000, so instead of hiring a lawyer, I suggest you pay a couple of thugs to give him a visit. I'm not really sure what I'd ask the thugs to do to him, but at the very least, he should need a change of underwear by the time they've left.

  12. I also have been in Thailand for many many years and in Asia for half my life, but at sixty I am no longer a young man, but thanks for the compliment anyway.

It escapes why posters such as you find the need to dive straight into insults and assumptions when presented with a differing view but I guess that's not really necessary for me to understand that in order to continue the discussion, so, to the point of debate:

Yes I agree that tuk tuks in Phuket are outrageously expensive, as are some other goods and services that we might want to buy. But nobody forces anyone to buy those things and the existence of them doesn't detract from Phuket as being a desirable place to live nor of its native people being usually very pleasant. It's a bit like some posts on Thai visa, nobody forces anyone to read them, it's down to choice - and after a while we each figure out which posters we like to read and which we do not, avoiding the latter - the existence of poor posting or OP's doesn't detract from the value of the service overall.

Well first of all, I wouldn't take my assumption that your a young man (because of a naive statement) as a compliment.

Secondly, you decide to make a snide comment about my post yet accuse me of diving into assumptions and making insults? You had the choice to say nothing, but instead decided to challenge my opinion. You take the time to make such a hollow, childish, and provoking statement like, "Unlike in the West where nobody is greedy and nobody cares for money at all! :) "

What do you expect? Anybody with even an ounce of pride isn't going to let your immature little shot go unpunished. Ya, I guess I got a little insulting, but not without provocation. When you also slip in the line "It escapes why posters such as you find the need to dive straight into insults and assumptions when presented with a differing view"

It has nothing to do with feeling challenged by a different view. You display your passive aggressive nature, and it's really not very attractive.

  14. I've heard that a work permit will be accepted in place of a letter of residency when one is applying for a driving license. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

From all my research that is correct.

Thanks for that. (Sorry to take so long acknowledging your help.)

  15. From the original post:

"They got pretty much everything wrong, from the desire for white skin to being a wish to be "Western" (which it isnt of course) to the Western evils of Hello Kitty (which is Asian)."

Gee, now why would they ever get those impressions? Perhaps it's because when one walks into the cosmetics section of any store EVERY women's (and some) men's skin products boast that it "whitens". Then one looks at the models on those products and they ALL look much more white and Western than 99.9% of the Thais we see every day.

Yes but the desire for white skin is not primarily to emulate Westerners. Its to make a statement of not being someone who works in a field all day in the sun. Sun-baked skin is seen as "lower class".

My statement has nothing to do with WHY they want whiter skin. I was only pointing out why people would get the (correct) impression that almost all Thais desire whiter skin.

If you want to show your amazingly in-depth understanding of Thai culture, simply post it. Quoting me here was inappropriate and not necessary.

  16. I've been to Phuket twice, which is one or two times more than I'd recommend anyone going.

Yes, I'm one of those who really dislike the snarling, greedy and unfriendly attitude displayed by the vast majority of business owners, It's like they expect us to get off the plane and shower then all with ridiculous amounts of money for inferior products and service.

It seems to me that the tuk-tuk drivers are simply being typical of what Phuket is all about - unreasonable greed and no real care for anything but MONEY.

Unlike in the West where nobody is greedy and nobody cares for money at all! :)

Oh, my goodness young man (gotta make that assumption due to your naive statement) - of course there's greed in every corner of the world, but not generally reaching the level that's reached in Phuket.

You see, the discussion isn't about the west, but I guess you didn't catch on to that as you sit there waving your little Thai flag at anybody who dares to pay any attention to you. :D

I've lived in Thailand long enough to know that there's a distict difference in the level of greed and disregard for people (especially tourists) shown in Phuket compared to almost all other areas of Thailand and the vast, VAST majority of the world.

But, don't tax your brain trying to figure that out. Just crack another bottle, put on those rose-colored glasses, and repeat your personal mantra -- Phuket is perfect...Phuket is perfect...Phuket is perfect..........

  17. I've been to Phuket twice, which is one or two times more than I'd recommend anyone going.

As for Hello Kitty, that is admittedly some shoddy journalism to not know that it's a Japanese invention.

  19. I'm curious to know what the fine (if any) there is for driving without a license. I suspect that losing or having ones driving license suspended won't be a deterrent to the vast majority of Thais. Now, if they could find some way to make them lose face for drunk driving, perhaps through conspicuous community service (as some suggested by picking up liter on the side of the road) that might work. To make it more effective, the guilty parties could be forced to wear a big placard with their name on it, stating that they are irresponsible people who were caught drunk driving. Hit them where it really hurts -- saving face.

  20. It's encouraging to see that many people are waking up to the "climate swindle" -- starting to realize that a lot of greed and the desire to keep us in check with fear is behind this scam.

ClimateGate seems to provide some evidence that the "scientists" who have the most influence on what the governments do and what the (totally untrustworthy) mainstream media says have little if any integrity left -- they've sold out and shouldn't be trusted.

Of course, the problem with pointing out how we've been conned with utter BS like Al Gore's load of crap, is that people jump on us and call us "planet haters", but let's not be silly. Just because I don't like to be bamboozled by the likes of Al (I can't wait for all the that bogus carbon credit money) Gore, doesn't mean that I shouldn't be conscientious about how we treat the planet or how many pollutants we spew into the atmosphere. Common sense tells us that if we sh*t in our bed, it's not going to be a very nice place to sleep, but don't keep flashing those shots of the face of a glacier falling off into the ocean, and saying, "See - there's your proof that we're suffering from global warming." Glaciers are constantly moving and when part of one creeps past the edge of the shoreline and the face of it falls into the ocean, well that's from very natural reaction -- it's called gravity.

Unfortunately, too many people have been deeply indoctrinated to believe anything other than what the politicians and mainstream media sources tell them to believe, and they'll never accept that maybe we're being conned by the information providers and public office representatives. They'll fight those who offer a different opinion right to the end -- to the time when their financial resources have been drained by way of contrived taxes and their freedoms lost. Too bad!
