Funny they write "Malay Peninsula" instead of "Thailand". I'm sure the British are above colonial geography now.

Orosee:,why the wide time interval for "estimated" re entry? Almost a month. The debris must have reached orbit, huh?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I'd say that since there is always a possibility of a launch delay (let's say because of weather, or technical problems), the start would have been on one day in a window of about a month or so - since ships are slow to get out of the way on short notice, they issued the warning for the entire window. Once the rocket was launched, things would happen according to schedule within minutes - the spaceflight101.com link on first page actually explains it much better and with the correct numbers, if one is interested in this technology. The image below - take note that speed is in meters per second, not km per hour - multiply with 3.6 to get a feeling how fast that is. Unfortunately you can't see the horizontal component (distance from launch site to East).
By the way, cool orbit - 284 km closest to 20,650 farthest from surface.

Guys, you must have seen at least a few rocket launches in your lifetime, Space Shuttle, Ariane, etc.Plus the "made for TV audiences" animations, graphical descriptions in newspapers and magazines, what not all.
The Indian rocket has a solid fuel first stage with a number of solid fuel boosters attached - some have two lines of boosters that fire in sequence. What happens is that the first stage plus boosters are fired (the first, main stage may also be fired a bit later than the boosters), the boosters burn until they run out of fuel, and the mass of the empty boosters is jettisoned after what could be 2 to 5 minutes, at a height that could be 20-30 km. Since rockets don't go up straight but at an angle so that they can pick up the horizontal speed necessary for a stable orbit, when the first boosters are jettisoned the rocket might be going as fast as 3,000 km/h - so these things won't fall straight down, but continue to fly for a decent amount of time before hitting the ground (or water). The main first stage will eventually also burn out (a lot higher now, and faster) and eventually plunge into the ocean, this time the Pacific. The separation of boosters and main stages will often create a plume of gases and trailing smoke, such as the ones that can be seen very nicely on the photos on the first page.
Now according to the Indian website on the GPS project (they also have the accurate numbers to my estimates), the satellite made orbit successfully. The satellite is a tiny thing of 5-10% of the total mass of the rocket, sitting on top of the launch vehicle. Everything below the satellite is the rocket. The Phuket newspapers talking about "satellite debris" are morons because if there would be real satellite parts 240 km off Phuket (or 20, whatever), then the ENTIRE rocket must have come down with it. Possibly wrestled down by an angry naga. But, it's "rocket debris". Not even "space debris", because whatever came down "near" Phuket has never been to space, it's atmospheric debris. Boosters, since there's more than one. Or maybe the first stage separation, depending on distances, height and speed.
*Just looked at the photos again and there's only one cloud streak, so most likely stage 1-2 separation. That should be sufficient to lob the debris from India to Thailand.

Well the satellite made it successfully to orbit, so the Phuket Gazette might want to read up on the Wiki pages for "satellite" and "rocket" - they're not the same thing :-P
Probably secondary boosters and/or first stage debris from within the atmosphere, I'm still trying to find a launch trajectory graphic.

White House says crash not linked to terrorism
Now I am completely confused.
If the co-pilot's action was deliberate, if property and lives were lost what was it but an act of terrorism?
Is Terrorism only what is linked to 9/11? Or to Muslims? Or to the USA?
Please, help with a definition.
This was murder/suicide if it was planned and deliberate. Maybe his mental state ("voices in my head") made it less planned and deliberate, but that doesn't really matter anymore. This wasn't terrorism, but if you see this as an act of terrorism, then the terrorists have already won.

He must have had a "psychotic" moment. I don't see how a suicide could have been planned as there is no way he could have predicted that the pilot would need a bathroom break and that he would be left in the cockpit alone.
Guess he took his chance and if the pilot on this flight didn't use the bathroom for the entire flight, well his option was wait for a flight where it did happen.
Who knows, maybe he this scenario had already played out before and failed.
It seems it was inevitable.
That's what I think, too. Counting on the captain to leave the cockpit on this specific flight would've left too much to chance.
This guy knew the passenger manifest; he knew there was a school class and babies on board, yet he decided to kill all of them. Why?
Although I wouldn't be surprised if further details might bring some more sense into this weird, weird story.
-
So far, none of the board racists have been calling it "catholicist terrorism." Come on, go ahead.
As for the pilot, for once I wish I'd believe in hell.
I'm sure the future will bring even more disturbing and confusing details about this event.
-
I worry more about the poor Thai guy who actually tried to stop him and got a dose of psychological damage because of this.
He's probably on a photo, smiling at the camera and pointing at the head wound.

One expired battery = 239 expired people.... way to go Malaysia airlines...
How so? The article clearly states otherwise.

Night Life stops at Midnight , why not close all bars then ? After Midnight it is early morning , who needs to drink in the early morning. Winos and tourist p..... pots mainly.
A lot depends if you are 20 or 80 year oldEasy to see how keeping bars open at 3:30 am is a recipe for disaster...every single time. What do people do at that hour? How about just closing and letting people sleep. (not to mention it is a holiday and they were in violation). Midnight sounds about right, for closing the cash register... although I would agree that door should be locked tight by 1am. That is plenty night life....and people are already drunk enough.
.A lot of people do not venue out until 10 or 11 at night.
That's why it's called night life and not early evening life.
After midnight is early morning? What do you think the "mid" in midnight stands for? Is after lunch (noon) already evening for you, too?

The censorship code thinks that you're writing "eff you", "F.U." etc. So no Kung <deleted>, but other martial arts should pass :-)

There were no signs of rape, the official said. Probably weren't any signs of a lot of things but what brought about that comment? Does that not remind of a kid volunteering an unsolicited statement that there's nothing hidden in his desk. Just sayin'....
Yesterday this forum was up in arms because exactly these words were missing. So perhaps the police has someone to read TVF and they issued this statement for the benefit of all the critical readers on here? Can't ever get it right, these poor chaps...

Where was the Unity March and the world-leaders a couple of months back in Gaza City??
After Israel killed more than 2000 people, most of them civilians and among them more than 500 children!!
No wonder that our Arab friends sometimes question Western hypocrisy and double standards!!
Was there a march of Arab/Muslim leaders instead, with say 500,000 Palestinians on the streets of Gaza City?
You attend family's and friends' funerals, not those of strangers. Where were the family and friends of the people of Gaza?

Its funny to see immigrants complain about other immigrants in their home country. Did you convert to Buddism ? Do you speak the language ? Do you live in a farang getto like Pattaya ?
So many similarities with immigrants in your own country, but its better to put them down of course. I begin to see the English as some of the most racist countries in the world. Next time the Germans must help us beat the English when set up the camps. How the world can change.
I wont bother to argue with you ,your replies are not inteligent enough ,no one cares about a few immegrants in a country i and my fellow English/American ,ect are not settling here in our millions ,demanding special privalages most of us are married to local women ,(who do not have to convert to our faith to be with us) we build a few churches ,but the priests in many of them do not preach hate against Thailand and Bhuddist ways, i dont demand that Stores sell only meat killed in a certain way(by the way neither did the Jews who came to Britain years ago) i had no problem when a small amount of Muslims came to my country and just blended in ,but if you cannot see what is happening in the west then ,what can i say? sorry but people like yourself have nothing to discuss so best we dont.
You seriously didn't know that when you accuse someone of not being "inteligent" (sic), you absolutely must get this one word right. If you do, people will ignore whatever you say about "immegrants", "privalages" and focus on your arguments - which unfortunately you forgot to include in your little rant here.
What nationality are you really?

LOL. If your name is "Frodo Underhill" or you're member of the "French Union", the censorship robot will make it impossible for you to use your initials <deleted>.

Certainly, the right of expression does not include the right to insult what is regarded as sacred and important to any religion and, by extension, the millions of its faithful.I can hardly express how wrong I think this statement is (which is echoed by some Western writers as well)!
I wouldn't go as far as saying that theres a "duty" to attack the sacred, holy and untouchable at all times, but to the contrary, not only does the right of expression include the right to insult the above, I believe it was created expressly for this purpose.
Basically, the Nation is blaming the victims here. <deleted>.

Hmm. No mention of the four Jews killed in the kosher market. Must have not happened as far as Malaysia is concerned.
Not just Malaysia, in fact the lack of inclusion of the 4 Jews is so noticeable that some newspapers have articles just about this.

Interesting that these guys keep trying to stay alive and get away, instead of going down in a blaze of glory, like true "martyrs" would.
For me this says: There's money involved, a lot, and they want to live it out big and in freedom. So definitely, absolutely get those two scumbags alive and persuade them to give away the details of their paymaster.

we have come to the conclusion, this isn't an issue to one specific country, we are all in danger of being victims to this from the USA to United Kingdom, to France....they can attack and kill our people, but they won't kill our resolve and our desire to live peacefully free from terror and murder....
As an American, I really feel for some of these European countries, they have basically become a mini middle east....Turks in Germany, North Africans in France, Pakistanis in England and a few bad apples WILL ruin it for the rest, the majority peace loving, abiding Muslims...while my country men worry about a mexicans crossing the border to work at McDonalds, my European brothers have legitimate fear about who will next immigrate to their country..
As an American, your geography is terrible!
Turkey is in Asia (and a small part in Europe).
North Africa is in, well, North Africa.
Pakistan is in Asia.
Anywhere but the Middle East, mini or not.
Now the big malls of Bangkok, there you have your Mini Middle East. Coincidentally these people come from the countries that side with the West but are behind large parts of the financing of terror networks.
To live peacefully free from terror (fear) and murder, well that right would extend to those listed as "collateral damage" after a drone strike as well, or is this only a Western concept and only we Whites are eligible for this?

Ah, the stupidity of the far-left.Almost all of the victims of Islamic terror are muslims, and yet somehow that is all "their" fault, too? Ah, the bigotry of TV...
Yes, it's their fault.
Of all the ignorant, biased, apologetic and plain scummy comment from the apologists, that quote takes the cake.
Nothing to do with left, apologism, etc.
I've seen your comments and they're about as bigoted as they can get.
Others have pointed out that your avatar uses the same symbolism that Breivik did. Same hate, different religion/ethnicity/culture. You're in the same camp as Islamist scum.

I beg to differ I don't know of any Christians from the west that are causing terror and killing people in the name of Jesus unless your talking about 800 years ago , in fact not one part of Jesus word mention or says it's ok to kill not one part of that new testaments
I usually consider the IRA a religious (catholic) motivated, foreign (US-Irish) sponsored terrorist organization (not so much anymore now but certainly less than the 800 years you mention). But usually, Christian extremism is so nicely rolled up into day-to-day racism that it's easier to label it with the latter (USA, Russia, some of Eastern Europe to be current examples).
I'm not going to read through 11 pages of predictable ThaiVisa reactions, but I'd wager that nobody mentioned or is even aware of the fact that on the same day, more than 3 times the amount of lives (37) were lost by a car bomb in Yemen, possibly from AQ. Is there a thread here on TV? Didn't see much about it in other news sources. Yemen? Not us, not like us, them, not worth the mention... day-to day racism when even 3 of them are worth less (in news) than one of "us".

"Almost all of the victims of Islamic terror are muslims, and yet somehow that is all "their" fault, too?"
Are you seriously posing that question??? No of course a muslim killing a muslim is not a muslims fault. It's the fault of the west; right?
I'm talking about the muslim victims of muslim terror, obviously.

More civilians were killed by Muslim extremists in two hours on September 11th than in the 36 years of sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland. (source)
Probably correct but what's your point? That anything below the 9-11 figures is not *real* terrorism?

This is the whole point, islam is a way of life not a religion, they don't want to integrate, it's their way or the highway.Time to close the borders!!
Who has entered already can stay if integrating!! If not, a one-way ticket to Mecca!!
According to history muslims have tried to conquer the world twice before, 7th century and 11th century but have failed both times. For me personally Allah, is exactly the same as Hitler, they both had the same goal, to rule the world, only time will tell if his wishes come true.
Please don't mix up everything : Islam is a religion and 99.9 % of muslims are rejecting these barbaric terrorists. By posting such absurdities you are contributing to worsening the issue. And since we are talking about extremists, keep in mind that christians, and other religions, have also their followers. Open your eyes.

German president labels Armenian killings as genocide

Every time someone thinks they made a smart remark but ended up posting a particularly dumb one, I feel the need to say something to remind them that thinking should go before posting and, in so many cases, thinking would lead to not posting (it's a surprise then that my post count isn't in the quadruple digits yet).
Every now and then a post comes along that shows so little sign of intelligence, that I'm not even sure if that would help and I'm left speechless...
