What different kinds of documents do they accept for proof of residence?
I asked Ubon Immigration recently for a proof of residence doc and the answer was, "Not our job. Tourist police do that"
Update on renewing Thai driver's licence (December 2019):
Today I exchanged my temporary driver's license (2 years) for one of 5 years, at DLT Ubon, Ring Road.
No test was required, I only handed over copies of the following: temporary driver's license (+ original), passport and visa (+ original), medical certificate, yellow tabien baan and pink ID card (or proof of residence by the Tourist Police). -

Does the DLT still accept the International drivers permit to get a Thai drivers?
I often see reference made about "home country" licence exactly what is meant by that? I hold an Australian Passport but haven't lived in Australia for 15 years have no drivers from Oz, but I have live HK 15 years and have a HK driver's licence - can this be used?
Yes, they do: https://www.dlt.go.th/en/international-driving-licence/

Update on getting a yellow tabien baan (Thor Ror 13) and a pink ID card for foreigners in UBON RATCHATHANI (July 2019).
1. Your passport and a translation in Thai of the data page. You can get this at ECC near Thung Sri Muang. This translation costs 600 Baht, it takes about two hours and it is accepted by the district’s office (amphoe).
2. A copy of your passport: data page and visa.
3. A copy of your TM6 departure card.
4. A copy of your TM30. The amphoe doesn’t require a Certificate of Residency.
5. A copy of your marriage certificate and marriage registration (if you are married to a Thai).
6. Blue tabien baan of your wife (or another house owner) + a copy of it.
7. Your Thai wife’s ID card + a copy of it (or another witness).
8. Two passport photos.
In the amphoe you go to the civil registration office and you wait in front of counter 4, the civil registration subsection.
All the documents being OK, my wife and I returned the following day with the puyabaan of our village. A copy of his ID card was made. Neither he nor I were interviewed.
One week later my wife was called to inform her my yellow tabien baan was ready to pick up.
Our three visits to the amphoe took about half an hour each time.
Immediately after receiving the yellow tabien baan, I had the pink ID card for foreigners made. That’s at counter 6. I only had to hand over my yellow tabien baan. No copies of anything at all.
They take a fingerprint of both your thumbs and a picture of your face. Showing your height you have to take your shoes off ????. The pink ID card is valid for ten years, unless your 60 or older, then the card is valid indefinitely. The ID card costs 60 Baht.
For both the yellow tabien baan and the ID card you are asked for your blood type.

I'll need this soon too. There are stores all over the place that do this. No idea who is actually skilled at it. If you remember, please let me know how it goes.
I had CCTVUBON aka Ubon Saengthong Satcom installed 8 outdoor cameras today and yesterday. I am pleased with the way they installed everything. The boss speaks sufficient English and his sister, who also works at the shop, speaks even better English, so for me that was an advantage.
Address: 92/58 Soi Thamma Withi (next to Big C).

I want to have cctv camera's installed outside our house in Ubon Anyone here who can recommend someone. I have already found ths company online: cctvubon (outside Big C).

Bit off topic, but the good thing about having a current IDP, is that when you go to apply for your Thai DL, you dont have to sit through that God awful video for 40 minutes.
Oh, yes, I had to, even a 2 hour video … (in Ubon).

It appears if you have a US license: no IDP needed, no translation needed, no written, no driving test needed?
Correct: if you have a driver's license in the English language, you do not need a IDP nor a translation. You do not have to take the written and driving test. You only have take color-blindness, depth view and reaction time tests.

I want to apply for the yellow book.
We live in Ubon, in a village (Moo 13) near highway 2050 (Ubon-Trakan). Not so far from our home is: Rai Noi Sub-district office (องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลไร่น้อย). Can I apply there for the yellow book or does this has to be done at Muang Ubon Ratchathani District Office opposite Thung Si Muang?

Just got my Thai driver's license. Here is the current info (December 2017) for someone who does not have a driving license in the English language. I went to the Department of Land Transport (DLT) in Ubon Ratchathani (Ring road 231).
You need:
1. Your passport + copy of the first sheet + copy visa and stamp date of entering Thailand. A visa is apparently not necessary. I did not even have a visa, because this time I stay less than 30 days in Thailand.
2. Certificate of residence. Get this at the Tourist Police (Headquarters in Warin). Take your passport + copy, and also proof of your whereabouts, for example tabien job of your spouse + her ID card and copies.
3. Medical certificate. To be collected in a clinic. In my case, four doors next to the entrance of the DLT (80 Baht).
4. International driving license version 1949 + copy. Attention, Thailand does not accept version 1968.
Procedure:
After DLT has checked your documents on the third floor, four tests will follow:
1. Recognizing red, yellow and green.
2. A test in which you have to draw two rods with a cord on the same line (depth view, I suspect).
3. A reaction test: you have to brake when the light on the unit turns red.
4. To be able to recognize red, yellow and green on another device.
If you succeed, you have to watch a two hour video containing the traffic rules. Then you get your documents back. With that you go to the second floor, you pay 205 baht, they make a passport photo and then they make your driving license. That is valid for two years. -
