A shocking incident at a shopping mall in the city of Trang on March 5 left a 58 year old Thai woman, Natchanan Kikkham, with severe injuries after a violent altercation with a 60 year old Swiss national, Dieter Matthias Straumann. 25 year old Natchanan’s son, Kritpong Kikkham, is resolute in seeking justice for his mother, who is now hospitalised with a prognosis of at least one month’s recovery.

The confrontation began when Natchanan was shopping and accidentally bumped into Straumann, leading to a heated exchange. Straumann, who has been living in Thailand on a retirement visa, reportedly attacked Natchanan without provocation, striking her multiple times and then fleeing the scene. Witnesses report Natchanan threw a water bottle in retaliation, after which Straumann returned, choking and beating her further, even slamming her head against the floor.

Straumann was subsequently detained by local police for questioning but remained tight-lipped throughout the interrogation. His recent passport renewal on October 28, 2023, and the upcoming visa expiration on November 14, 2024, indicate his legal status in the country. The police have prepared to charge him with serious assault due to the gravity of Natchanan’s injuries, which include a broken nose and chest trauma, rendering her unable to breathe properly.

Kritpong, who along with relatives has been appealing for fairness at the Trang Hospital, recounted his mother’s harrowing experience, emphasizing the unprovoked nature of the attack. Multiple witnesses within the mall have come forward, ready to testify on Natchanan’s behalf. The police, after a preliminary medical report, are consolidating evidence for Straumann’s potential prosecution.

Straumann’s only response to the police’s announcement of the impending legal action was a terse, “Can not, I will go home. Don’t take photo me.” The relatives of the victim have affirmed their commitment to pursue the case to the fullest extent, underscoring the severity of the assault and the need for justice, reported KhaoSod.

Amidst ongoing controversy, Swiss citizen Urs Fehr’s visa status was reviewed by immigration authorities due to his involvement in a Phuket assault case. Concurrently, inquiries were made into his business operations and foundation.

I've run across the Swiss three times since I arrived here. The condo where I used to stay had a Swiss family, man wife and child, all were as mad as hatters and used to cause pandemonium around the condo. Even the little girl who was about three. Then the village I moved to had a Swiss guy married to a Thai, who every time he had a couple of beers, wanted to fight the world. He ended up in a road accident in which he killed a man and his wife on a motorbike and sidecar. At the house where I live now, I heard a commotion on the track outside. On investigating I saw a Swiss guy who lives across the way running alongside a builder's truck shouting threats and obscenities and kicking the side of the truck! The same guy used to drive like someone possessed, leaving a huge cloud of dust behind him which of course all settled across my property. He had several ups and downs with neighbours, but has now left. Now these two recent reports. Are they trying to take top spot from us Brits?

I was an enlisted sailor on the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65). Before pulling in to any foreign port, we were gathered and the fear of gawd was impressed upon us. We were reminded we were ambassadors of the US and any aberrant behavior would result in double jeopardy. The host country would enforce their punishment then the Navy would enforce THEIR punishment on top.

How would YOU feel if folks came to your home country and behaved like this?

They do and they show utmost disrespect for the country in more ways than one, with protests every few days and appearances in the media decrying our country and it's history. I think there should be severe penalties for disrespecting someone's flag, it's an insult to the people of that nation and the penalty should be deportation at least.

It sounds like he deserves it but then again I'm not thrilled to hear about expats being deported as a general thing. I would have preferred some kind of plan where this man was forced to humiliate himself publicly in a super dramatic way. Lost face for life. I doubt he would reoffend.

Deport him! Too many people offering violence in countries that have been kind enough to let them stay and getting away with a slap on the wrist, sometimes not even that. If it were up to me, I'd give him a jail sentence and then deport him. Lefty solutions like holding a candlelit vigil outside his house, group singing "Cum Ba Yah", having a protest march or handing out leaflets would be water off a duck's back to thick skinned bolshy types like this guy.

There are some information boxes on the online form where there is no red star to indicate that the information is necessary to submit.

These are things such as Given Name, Middle Name, Stay Visa Expiry, Building Name / Owner Name, and Phone No.

Even though it may seem that some of these boxes of information are not required, if you don't fill in every box, then there is a chance they will reject your online submission.

So it is best to fill in every single box when completing the online application.

Also if you're a Brit, there are several boxes. Make sure you click the right one, I was once rejected and it was because I made the wrong choice.

Well when initally launched it  didnt  work for  over a  year, when it  did  work it  was  fine for  about 2  years, then some  dick decided to change it  all  again yet they still have 2  systems available now . Its the old one that doesnt  work, my password and user  name suddenly  got the same message that you did. You have to go re  register and the new  site is as  <deleted>e  as the old which at least told you when to re  do the 90 day.

    Link to both sites  here

    1 doesnt work........ https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login

2 does  work with reregistering....... https://tm30.immigration.go.th/tm30api/loginExternal.jsp?value=EXT&id=7b5dfbf6112fb757b5d5ebf708f38b0b

The first one worked for me when I did my 90 day last week.

  6. About 17 years back just after I'd arrived here, I was drugged on Beach Rd Jomtien. I mistakenly let a local "lady" who I'd not long met buy me a bottle of beer from a 7 eleven which she handed me opened. Yes I know, she saw me coming, but I was already well oiled and she was a bit of a babe. Better men than me have fallen for this trick. Anyway, she must have been stood behind me earlier when I'd made a withdrawal from an atm, because my account was a couple of hundred pounds lighter when I checked the next day. One of those lessons in life that costs you, but in my case was cheap in the long run.

Yes. They learned it from Thais.  Gotta love the crap for brains guy who often sets off a 500 piece long strip of firecrackers at 7 am behind my house thinking that's normal.

Or the place near my house that sometimes plays loud bass-heavy music from 4am to 8am. What's the mentality of a head banger that does that?

  8. A couple of years back, a very friendly, heavily pregnant tabby cat wandered into our garden and didn't want to leave, so we adopted her. She eventually had six beautiful kittens that we kept in the kitchen until they were old enough to keep under the house, which is on columns. One evening the mother went out and didn't come back, which was strange as she was still feeding her youngsters and seemed like a brilliant mum.

One morning a few weeks later, I went to do some gardening outside the front of my property for about 30 minutes leaving the kittens playing under the house as I'd done many times before. On returning, they'd all vanished. My wife and I scoured the property and the local area for days, but could find no trace of them. There was no blood or fur laying around, everything looked normal.

My theory is that someone passing the back gate saw them and drove them away in their car, because they were all cuties and very friendly. We'll never know.

The usual idiots will be along soon to say their pitbulls can sleep with babies and wouldn't hurt a fly. I am sure this guy said the same.

The same kind of idiots who say guns don't kill people....

"The same kind of idiots who say guns don't kill people...."

They don't! I guarantee if you buy one today and lock it in your safe, it'll be there indefinitely without causing you any harm whatever. Using your reasoning, the same could be said about a broom handle. Bring a pitbull back to your home and the same can't be said.

Clearly you have not observed the easy entrance to America at the southern border.

Biden has let in, during his three disastrous years, up to 10 million illegals who have just walked into the country with (as the years ahead will show, I believe) disastrous consequences.

I suspect not a single one of those 10 million has needed a visa!

Ditto the UK with the Channel rabble.

This year the Revenue Department has decided to no longer mail out refund cheques. Instead they send a letter that gives 3 options on how to obtain your refund.

    #1. PromptPay

    #2. Krungthai bank account

    #3.Krungthai e-Money

Revenue will not use #1 for foreigners even if they have a Thai bank account with PromptPay.

So today went to my local Krungthai Bank branch with my e-Money card from prior tax refund years only to be told that this is no longer an option and that the ONLY means of obtaining my tax refund is to open a bank account with them.

Wasn't happy with that response, and not that keen to open an account there as the staff are poorly trained. When I asked about what documentation they required for the account to be opened (knowing full well the bs response to expect) I was told passport, C of R from Immigration and some document from the District Office. My wife asked what about yellow tabian baan, pink ID card. Staff said no, even though the letter from the Revenue Department had my pink ID card # on it, not my passport #.

My wife spoke with the branch manager who advised the staff member that she was incorrect and that the yellow book and pink ID card would be fine, but I still needed the document from the District Office which is essentially a local equivalent of a certificate of residence from Immigration.

The purpose of this post is to give expats that lodge tax returns here in Thailand and who have relied on receiving their tax refunds via the e-Money card that if they don't already have a bank account with Krungthai they will need to open one as that will be the ONLY way as a foreigner that you'll be able to receive your tax refund going forward. Also you will need to have the bank cancel your existing e-Money card and receive in cash any balance that remains on the card.

Good luck if you're thinking of getting a letter of residence from Jomtien Immigration to open a bank account. Last time I tried they told me that they only issued them for driving licences. In the end I had to buy accident insurance from the bank before they'd issue me an account.

  12. I take half a Cardiprin tablet daily which stops my migraines almost completely. I still get the occasional mild one every few months. Before I discovered them, it seemed like I was getting at least one attack a week (the flashing coloured lights, very rarely a headache), which made driving dodgy because I never knew when they were going to strike. I used to take the whole tablet (100 mg) but found that half was good enough, bearing in mind the blood-thinning properties of Aspirin. Cardiprin also contains Glycine which is good for the heart and liver amongst other things. They aren't expensive and I buy them at my local Pharmacy.
