  1. So need all the farang owned but run by their Thai wives/girlfriends here on Phuket need worry then? Or is it only pimping Thai women outside Thailand a criminal offence?

    Good point.

What about the farang in Thailand bar owners that practice the bar fine system.

Surely these should also be classified as pimps.

In theory, not really. Because the bar fine is for taking the girl away from the bar, so its like compensating the bar for not having an employee.

NOTE: Not defending it, just rather clarifying the loop hole

  2. So need all the farang owned but run by their Thai wives/girlfriends here on Phuket need worry then? Or is it only pimping Thai women outside Thailand a criminal offence?

Prositution itself in Thailand is an offence so I would assume living of the earnings of prostitution would also be an offence in Thailand.

He did not break any local laws(sort of speak), he was arrested in UK for breaking UK Law

  3. Mid thirties aren't half of early forties...

But like some other people have mentioned, it's probably better to get out of central bangkok. Personally I would ask a half decent english speaking taxi driver to take me some place...

lol, yes a decent english speaking taxi driver will surely know all the "right" places like the massage parlors where he gets 500 baht for bringing customer or hostess bars where he gets about as much.

Then one may also be lucky enough to shout the nice man taxi driver a few drinks in one of those "right" places where drinks are only 300-400 baht.

By the way, speaking from experience. My first trip 10 years ago i asked my "decent speaking taxi driver" to take me to good places.wink.gif

  4. Guys in the know, i have a question and hope you have the answer :)

Today i was told by Isuzu sales girl that there is a motorshow on 30th of this month, is that true?

If it is, when is the best time to visit to place an order to get best deal? In the beginning of the show or the end?

Also what kind of savings should i expect or look for?

And final, if i was to go for finance, how would it work? considering that i am in Pattaya but show is in BKK, Would i need to travel to Bkk for all the meetings or they can arrange local bank branch?

Thanks for the answers in advance :)

It's the Bangkok Used Car & Imported Car Show at Impact Muang Thong Thani between 22nd - 31st.

In some instances your timing would matter little; for example Chevy Okay is nation-wide and you can research prices online before hand. Then there are the many luxury car dealers and I've no idea how that works - never done that. Maybe it's 'First 4 years interest free!' or something of that nature...I imagine trying to run a supercar in Thailand would cause bankruptcy and homelessness.

For finance, many nationwide banks such as Tisco have booths there so you can fax documents as required.

Cheers for that, any chance of a link?

Just little more detail, sales girl told me that they(Isuzu) woud be there and if i come there, she would knock off another 5000 baht off the price, she was sales girl for the new cars.

Now i am very confused biggrin.gif

  5. Tapaz in Silom gets some nice girls, but sponsored bar girls are more frequent there now days.

Ratchada and RCA is another place., Thonglor has some "posh' places but be aware in some of those, you can end up paying 400 baht for a drink. Another one i think called Long Table in Asoke(but again crazy prices)

Qbar and Bed, occasionally do get "non working" girls

However as already mentioned by someone, its very hard to meet the "nice" girls because

    1. Language

    2. They are not exactly too eager to hang out with foreigners as it does create the "bad" image

    3. Usually, if not most of the time are in groups and not easily approachable.

There are many so called non bar girls, who are looking for a foreigner to support them and while they do work and are not out every night, in a nutshell they are out hunting but with long term goal :)

I think best way to meet "nice" girls is through work or friends, friends of friends.

But interestingly enough, all those "happily" married members to of course "good" girls who are out in force slamming OP, where did you meet your wives? shopping malls? dating sites? and are you sure you want to make fun of others considering that you have no idea who or what the girl is and/or was

  6. What i find most amazing is the fact that Israel ALWAYS gets bashed by the same people no matter what the news line is, while the same people go deaf on any news line about the neighbors.

Israel passes this silly law and here they are slamming it

Neighbors pass the law allowing to simply kill people and silence out of the same group

I think this law is rather a deterrent more than anything else. If people are aware that they could be sued, they are more likely to be little more careful. Because defense alone will cost a fortune.

Just like Thai laws for deformation are very serious, you do not find too many people making loud noise, unless they are prepared to go all the way and have the money to do so.

  8. she received only guidance from her brother, is that not involvement?

"He merely offered ideas and advice but was not involved in the party administration and decisions," she said of Thaksin

Just to confirm, Thaksin says offer free laptops, PTP offers free laptops, is that NOT being involved in decision making or administration? I wonder if she really believes into what she says

  9. The comments on the Cruzes Auto Box,does rather prove kuffkis test drive is a good idea. A change from a City, isn't one for the better if you don't like the Box. More so when buying into a relatively unknown product here.Chevy did offer me a test drive, and were polite.I only popped in from reading posts here.I sat in it only, and the Interior makes the Fords look like a Proton..Now i wish i had tried it.You don't expect a Wonkey Auto these days, especially from G.M.:jap:

The idea of a test drive is not only to test things like gears but also to get a feel of the car. For example Ford Wildtrack looks good on the paper, even though i did not get to drive one, but just sitting inside i found it to be very narrow and rather uncomfortable.

I use to have Mitso Triton and it was comfy to sit in, but when driving, everything rattled.

Some cars looks awesome to look at and have great specs, but may not feel as comfortable as one wants/needs.

Of course as already said, for some people its not about the actual drive but the image, If i was interested in that, BMW is the way to go.

My neighbor(Thai) bought one and car has not moved yet for over 9 months already but it is parked right infront of his house, washed daily but thats about itbiggrin.gif

PS. Love BMW, but the price of a car and service is outrages in Thailand

  10. While the trolling,Ops sorry the story is telling is fascinating , the so called fictional story did not take place in Thailand which I did make pretty clear!

If you found difficult to follow it , I thought price quoted in $ not baht was an indication of the location.

I do understand that perhaps the amount was hard for you to grasp, but believe it or not there people with money and they do not retire in Thailand .

As for locals attacking , perhaPs if they see you as an easy prey- they sure will. Just like they will rip you off and scam you if they see a scared, lost little foreigner.

I have lived here for almost 9 years and have had Plenty of altecations and none so far dared to attack me.

But anyhow your theory's have absolutely nothing to do with the thread, so unless you have something relevant to add, may I suggest you troll elsewhere.

    so you tell me rolleyes.gif

Ok, grab my hand my son and let's go for this walk, you know, at first you gave me the impression of someone quick to pick things up and came up with the right conclusions by yourself, my fault on that evidently.

So let's start. It's a fact that locals tend to attack even with an unnecessary level of force for some of the silliest reasons (loosing face?) and others thais will just join in not because they find out who was right and who was wrong, but just in base of their xenophobic attitude. There have even been people killed just because they were "farangs", no other "guilt".

Now to the receipe you have to add the attitude you find when you go shopping around, and see how do they take great pride in doing whatever they like while at work, things like talking to their phones, texting messages, playing on pc, you name it, but trying to put some willingnes in their job or at least respect whom is going to pay for their salary it's considered as less then zero in their list of important things.

Can you see now how a fictional story could very well fit in with the everyday life in such a state of affairs?

  11. You have a very vivid imagination, Or you are speaking from experience.

Well, for this particular case, none of the 2 options apply, i just like to read and see what happen around me, and if that wouldn't match my personal idea of how it should be, i just don't go on to deny it, what's the purpose of it?

you the one trolling telling the story, so you tell me rolleyes.gif

  12. I love the idea of phoning the Head Office.By the time you find someone with half a Brain in any Thai Office, the Model you reqire info on has been upgraded or replaced.:o

It's funny as that's what I thought but to my surprise when I called I got marketing manager within 5 mins and he spoke fluent English. He said he would call back and did call back in less than 5 mins, gave his personal number and was very pleasant to a point where matters were in his hands.

The moment matter got to sales- everything went downhill.

    What Company Head Office, Proton.?.:D

    See the very first posting-MITSUBISHI

  14. You have a very vivid imagination, Or you are speaking from experience.amazing after all those beatings you received , you can still type - lol

Ps. I suggest yOu visit a decent car dealership and see how it really works. Just BMW is an excellent start

After doing the deal, he dragged me back to the first dealer, asked for the sales manager, told him of what has taken places not so long ago and then showed the sale contract.

The look on managers face was priceless, the sales guy who told us to get out i believe was fired that very same day.

Can you imagine how the same story could have turned up in Thailand? :D The manager arrive, the sales man confirm you where the two inconsiderate farangs interrupting his somtam/permanent nap moments, then the whole staff, manager included, join in a massive beating up of the would be customer/friend, at the same time all the taxi/motosay drivers stop to give you a good kick while you are inconscious on the floor.

Then the branch organize a staff's party to cheer up the hero sales man : " khun Somchai, you saved us from the huge annoyance of having to re-order a new car, updating the books, making phone calls and sending fax and e-mails around, i will propose you as the new manager for the next branch we open" ...how different that would be from the news we read everyday here in LOS?

  15. The  and the :whistling: were supposed to indicate my sarcasm and in essence agreement with you..

Did not mean to "argue" was just saying that this is not company policy but rather dealer's choice to behave in certain way.Every person can be turned into a potential customer , just like every customer can be turned into a tire kicker.

Off topic: reminds me of a situation when i was 19 years old(was not long ago :) )

One of my friends was from a very very rich family and decided he wants to buy a porsche, so he asked his dad for a blank cheque and of course it was not a problem.

So off we went to one dealer who had a nice looking Porsche for $300 000, my friend asked if he could test drive it, but was told to get out of the shop.( i do understand seeing 2 19 year old kids would get this kind of reaction)

However at the time, i was pretty pissed off, while my friend did not look bothered at all. He just left the shop and suggested we go across the road. Off we went

The other dealer had little more brain cells and allowed him to test drive, cut the story shot, he purchased that Porsche with all the extra's and ended up paying around $360 000

After doing the deal, he dragged me back to the first dealer, asked for the sales manager, told him of what has taken places not so long ago and then showed the sale contract.

The look on managers face was priceless, the sales guy who told us to get out i believe was fired that very same day. Do keep in mind this took place16 odd years ago when $360 000 was huge money,

Perfect example of "stupidity" and all sales guy had to do was ask some simple questions, such as name and perhaps how he was planning to pay. His name was and still is very well known in the country, and regarding the payment, he would

    have showed blank signed cheque.

  16. Not only do you get Tire Kickers, you get Arrogant Oiks,in a Vyron look at me T Shirt. They ask you all the things they are sure you wont know, then tell you in a Loud Voice to impress other Customers in the Showroom. When they have made sure you dont know the Tyre Brand without looking, they inform you of the Valve Clearances. After rubbishing You and The Product, they get in their Truck and leave with a Loud IM OFF to THE VOLVO Showroom. This applies to Ferangs here only .As told to me by the Ford Dealer in Ubon Rat..Not that i imply this Forum has such Bums.B)

spot on , and sales staff general impression of farang, test drive and talking and dealing on price, but not buying

reminding me of late 2005, wanted a Fortuna, 3-5 months waiting lists, approached showroom, didnt even look at Fortuna, found senior sales staff, told him 10k baht in his pocket If I could have one in silver with Michelin tyres (hated the Bridgestones) within 3 days. but but you farang you need to look and testdrive, 3 days later we picked it up. Took me 2 days to sell Vigo, everyone happy :)

Yes, its unspeakable that someone wants to know the car, get a feel and make choice based on personal preference NOT on a word of someone else. All those 6.5 billion people have no idea, ONLY Thai dealers got it right.

    Yes TiT.... :rolleyes::whistling:

I do not believe its TIT, because if you call up the head office as i did, things change very quickly.

I think its down to the actual dealer and have a feeling if you bother to go all the way up the ladder, you may find that it is totally against company policy.

I got my test drive literally 15 mins after i contacted head office and reduced the waiting time from 1 month to maximum 2 weeks and head office was willing to give me company car for 1 week

  17. While the "heat" coming from the CP is the most obvious one, but is it also not possible that perhaps Dtac or one of its shareholders supported previous government and this is a revenge from the other side.

1 think i have learned in Thailand, always expect the unexpected, and even when you predict and cover all basis, something new pops up, no matter how ridiculous it sounds

  19. sigh, brains are low in here tonight. I clearly gave the website.

It's all status cars that were shipped off to tent dealers RIGHT after they emptied the free gas tank.. Sometimes they've got a couple hundred baht left by eating mama's for a few weeks and they get to 1.5k km

remember a bunch of funny status stories from a while ago on this forum.. one member had a cheap car, neighbor got a manual fortuner and parked it in the street proudly and it ended by the thai moving his unused status manual fortuner inside his parking and putting a drape over it in shame when the thaivisa member bought a sportivo and used it daily.

    what website? in what post?

He wrote "12 car" when it should have been "one2car" so that's the site he was referring to.

Thank you, had no idea what 12 car meant :)

  20. kuffki said" Take Nissan March for example, really not so many on the road"

I think it depends where you are. I live on the south west side of Bkk and there are at least 3 Nissan dealers close. There are also LOTS of Nissan Marches on the rd here.

I can not speak for your area, in Pattaya there are hardly any and i do mean Nissan March(not the dealers), while same type of a car like Yaris or Jazz is on every corner.

  21. Your experience would have driven me mad enough to consider my living arrangements. Ridiculous customer service.

    cheesy.gif

5-7 years ago i would of been ready to explode but now while frustrating, it is pretty normal.

Just as off topic example. Go to buy all-in-one office jet(print/copy/scan/fax)

Really was unsure on what to get, so asked sales guy what was good, reliable and fast.

Answer was-"i do not know, because i do not use it", At least he was honest :)

  22. "It is not necessary that those who were guilty be punished

By virtue of that statement it is blatantly obvious that Thaksin A.K.A. Yingluck and the P.T.P. is/ are intent on manipulating the legal system and parliamentary procedure to ensure or rather demand the return of the money he ( Thaksin) pilfered and a quashing of his gaol sentence. Demonoracy lives sad to say

Indeed one does wonder how long it will be before the lit fuse hits the powder keg.

do not forget it is NOT only the money confiscated but also all the money spent on undermining the government, protests etc etc etc, I am sure the amounts he is expecting are double if not triple to what has officially been taken off him.

Does anyone know what happened to the money frozen in UK? has it been released or ...?

  23. Every time there's a motor show on there are always newspaper reports about how many thousand new cars have been sold at the show. If there are really that many being sold then there can't be many people test driving them first.

If I couldn't test drive a car then I'd be buying elsewhere. I've had this argument before with my wife who doesn't get why anyone would need to do a test drive... just like i can never understand why anyone would not... somewhere like Australia it's never an issue, walk in to a dealer and after a brief chat and providing a copy of your licence you are off for a test drive, usually on your own.

Maybe Thai dealers are worried about this happening...

    http://www.abc.net.a.../06/3262252.htm

Has anyone noticed that any new models in Thailand in any make do not really do well or do very slow?!

Most cars sold at the motor shows are the usual same cars. People buying them do not test drive and buy either from having owned one prior or recommendation from a friend. This is why the same models in the same makes always have the same kind of sales figures.

People do not get to test drive other makes such as Nissan or Ford or Mazda, so the original 3- Toyota, Isuzu and Honda always in top 3.

Because people do not get to test drive, new models are very slow in sales. Take Nissan March for example, really not so many on the road, yet it is a better, more economical and nicer car to drive than Yaris or Jazz. I just bought one for my mother and she has had all 3 in the past, yet it is not really doing well locally.

Even the new Honda Brio, released not so long ago, i have not seen even 1 yet on the road and i would attribute it to inability to test drive it. Price is good, drive is nice, very economical, very nicely designed and is a Honda, but its a new Honda, so people keep buying Jazz.

Another perfect example is Toyota Prius hybrid, i do not think there is a queque waiting to buy one, while Camry Hybrid has a waiting list. Go figure :)
