  1. The IR extender is the way to go the wire is very small and concealable the hardest part is finding the IR receiver window on the cable/sat box. Use some cellophane tape to hold the "blinker" to the box to find the best placement the adhesive that comes with most of them is only good for one try. It is important to get the placement right the first time.

  2. My experience of boats going over to Koh Samui is they have life jackets but not enough for everyone. They also have life jackets but the canvas and fittings have rotted so they fall apart when you try to fasten it up. This was one one of the smaller boats that sail direct to Surathani. Luckily it didn't capsize or sink.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is how many of the boats are operated all over Thailand. My two tips are take the boat in the morning as more storms kick up in the afternoons and you can buy life jackets easily in coastal towns. Take them home and ebay them.

i think the OP mentioned going to Koh Samet not Koh Samui, just saying. And why would you buy your own lifejacket and not just make sure they have suitable ones on the boat before paying.

  5. When you have MIB embedded what is to stop them from using their own military issue rounds to take out a few of their own supporters to muddy the waters as far as who shot who. The leadership only cares about the end result and the cannon fodder are there to be used, so why not use them. I don't doubt that some scared conscripts might have used live rounds, either to take out a real threat or just because they were scared. To suggest that the Dem leadership targeted reds for assassination is nonsense because it goes against all logic, the reds would be the only ones who would want a martyr.

  6. Employers no matter where and no matter what the laws of the land "require" have a moral obligation to provide their employees with a fair and livable wage AND a safe and healthy workplace. Any employer who fails to do so should be exposed to public ridicule and criminal or civil prosecution. If it takes someone from outside the country to do so because the government within the country is too weak or controlled to look out for it's own workers, then so be it. The rest of the world should at least boycott the company as well as any other company that would buy these tainted products!

  7. As others have said if your power plug from the new adapter is a two prong try reversing the way you plug it in, you may have the hot and neutral reversed. if it is a three prong then you may have to rig an adapter to make the switch. if this solves the problem then you are ok. but you would be well advised to get rid of the power cord and buy a new, correct adapter. You could damage your computer and anything that shocks you should tell you that something is wrong, it could catch fire and you wouldn't want that. go to a reputable dealer and test out the new power cord before you buy it! many things in Thailand are wired in reverse because they do not follow any acceptable codes and only worry that the light goes out when they turn the switch to off. You already know that the power cord is bad because your wife's cord does not produce the same shock problem. Buy a new one!

  8. Thaksin could have been given a Visa due to pressure exerted on the embassy who granted it and or lobbying from either influential Thai's in the US or Thai Officials who were loyal to him. That the US granted a Visa is in no way a State Visit complete with discussions with US Officials. No matter what might have been on Thaksin's mind or lips when attempting to raise his own stature with his supporters.

  9. How did you determine that both the line and neutral were live? If you tested the wires while they were all connected to the water heater then you may have made an error. The line and neutral both carry current and voltage when connected so you need to disconnect them from the heater to do the checking. Did the RCD trip open when your wife saw the flash, did it need to be "reset"?

When they tested the shower at homepro did it actually heat water or did they just look at the lights?

The storm may have sent a spike thru the electrical system which fried your water heater, which caused the flash. I suspect that once the heater is replaced your problem will be solved.

Others should be along shortly to either agree or disagree with me, you may pm me anytime if you have questions.

  10. I would much rather hear about the "Technical Difficulties" and how they were resolved. As to the soldiers being in uniform and making veiled threats it is childish. Any professional soldier, unit or army would not protest or allow it's members to protest in uniform. What you say without your uniform or the intended influence of your military membership or position is your own business. Tarnishing the image of a professional military as being involved in politics is an insult to your profession. It seems this group was put up to the job and this says more about the childish and unprofessional attitudes of their superiors than it does about these enlisted soldiers.

  12. Until the Thai people realize that they are being taken advantage of AND demand better of their own local politicians, no improvement to their lives will ever take place. They must be willing to elect people who will do the right thing for their constituents. And they must keep these politicians honest and vote them out when they take advantage of their position and fail their constituents.

Only then will they get schools that actually teach, a police force that is trained and disciplined, so that finding criminals and preventing crime is their primary job, instead of taking bribes and protecting criminals. A judicial system that fairly enforces the law on all, regardless of wealth or social status.

This is the same problem facing many if not most countries in the world. And please don't think that just because you are from a educated, industrialized western country that this does not apply to you.

  13. What are you trying to protect? Outdoor areas to frighten them away or alarm when they actually enter the home. These systems are not difficult to install if you have some mechanical ability and can understand the system involved. Post here or pm me and i will try and help.

  14. When i checked my house wiring i found that they had reversed the feed to the Consumer Unit. A inductive non-contact tester works well for this. After I found this i also found that the wiring to the gate bell was defective and leaking about 60v to ground. I disconnected it and will install a wireless one when i need the doorbell.

  15. I would have to agree with Curtklay, blocking the air flow would be the worst thing to do. Assuming that the burner, feed tube and control knob/valve were engineered properly in the first place. The flow of fuel and it's mixing with air are a balancing act and the back pressure causing your flame problem is caused by either too high a fuel feed pressure or a blocked tube leading to the burner. Clean the tube with a tube brush and verify that the burner is fully functioning. Can you verify that the burner is fully lit? Is flame coming from all of the outlets at the burner end? You might check the pressure regulator and adjust the outlet pressure down but adjusting the regulator would be a last resort as they can be very hard to get right without a gauge.

  16. They have bit extensions for hole saws that use a 1/4" drill bit as a pilot. 8mm is close to 5/16ths and 1/4" is only a 1/16" smaller. if you could get away with using a 1/4" tile bit that it would be fine.. if you need the 8mm then remove the allen hed set screw from the bit extender and with a 8mm regular bit (not the tile bit it will ruin it) drill out the bit extension so your 8mm will fit and re-install the set screw to hold your 8mm tile bit.

  17. Can't understand why the issue with Thailand not joining the other 4 on this visa issue, Thailand is years ahead of them in giving visa free entry to virtually all of Europe, North and South America and most of Asia. China only has 15 days of visa on arrival but it is a much easier process than applying for a visa before coming to Thailand. Why is this policy so short sighted? Can someone logically explain this?

  18. Don't know if these are available in Thailand yet but for less than 2$ US you can get a small plastic device that will clean out that hair snake from the U bend. A small pipe snake would be preferable but if you don't want to have to store one of those these make a very convenient alternative http://zipitclean.com/ . I just hate the idea of putting chemicals down the drain and all of the negative consequences if you do not need to.
