  1. I agree with Fred re Spikes ridiculous comment. Having fallen in love with Thailand on the usual "two/three holiday" read and digested all the dos and donts, I decided to buy land and build and retire there. However, by no means equated to the situation of the Robinsons, I was mugged by four 'lads' in broad daylight with no assistance from any other Thai person or farang! I later, despite being extremely charitable to any workers employed by my Thai project manager, was ripped off, had belongings, money and then subjected to huge embezzlement by the the people I was so genuinely respectful and charitable to! The Police of course not interested (Thai you see, NOT as they prefer to say 'Burmese' !). My opinion has changed now of Thailand - behind the smiles are a much deeper reason for being your 'friend' - money.

What saddens me is that is I fell in love with Thailand as did the Robinsons and now it makes me synical that I could ever fall in love with any other asian country either now.

Its like a relationship..... takes a long while to know the good and the bad..... the whole story.

Linda - my heart goes out to you. I would protect my hard earned belongings too.

and yes, why didnt those lads (as they are said to speak Thai, Burmese & English) just apologise for the intrusion, say they were hungry and ASK for some food.

Total rubbish!!! I hope true justice is done and we are rid of people like this in the world.

  2. I know this has been said many times before.thailand is a place for a holiday, for retirement,or working for a farang based company only.

the minute you get invoved in property dealings/thai owned company you run the risks associated with it.many farang business people are just plain crooks and scammers too.

remember too there is very little justice for westerners here, most everything is settled with tea money or in this posters case the gun.

If you want to be safe in thailand and not lose money keep your head down and your hand in your pocket.

    I agree 100 % with your advice.

We have no chance to open a big business here or to open out mouth too big. I build a house uphill Hua Hin and the construction was very lousy. The woman that took the contract cheated me a lot and I have now a lot of problems. But I was warned already not to bring this case to the court, because it would not be good for my health.

So I keep my head down and my hands for the future in my pocket.

IN ANSWER TO ABOVE........ Hua Hin cheater!! A clean living, hard working pair who put all their money into a proposed project in Hua Hin via 1st Choice Homes based in Pattaya (who purportedly had an office in HH) who, in brief, breqchof contract, stole money/materials and embezzled over 8mil baht was reported to the Chief of Police HH and a BKK solicitor recommended by 1/2 Thai 1/2 Swiss resident. Despite "tea" money nothing has been done by either, as no loyalty in handshakes if the other side guzzump it! (ie naturally a payment both ways - such greed). You just need to look at the Thai police or Immigration officials dripping with gold chains and medallions to assess who does what, their salaries do not command such purchases.

  4. There are also a multitude of "waste of space" ex-pats living in Pattaya, escaping from damage done financially to UK citizens (I can name a few!) but still shielded by their ex-pat 'friends' ! Thai authorities dont seem to want to get rid of these from Thailand either... they should all end up "laying on a bed with face and head injuries" in my opinion having of course drunk themselves to oblivion and had an accident! :o

  5. :D Dear Lusty, Firstry I sympathise with your situation and also your loss. I do not agree with "rambo" comment on how to solve this at all, you will be leading yourself into something much bigger - in thailand. RU not aware that most of the crooks live in Pattaya? they have all moved over from what was once their hideaway in Marbella, spain!

Secondly, I can name and will shame.....as I have a warrant out for his arrest in Pattaya, another embezeller... wonder if its the same bloke? Mitch Malone? (Keith Mitchel Malone). He and his Thai female business partner Supa (Suparb Passawaes) embezzled £85k from me and also stole site materials and money whilst I was in hospital in Thailand after a road accident.

If you think the police will help you will your dialema, think on..... My case is not as "stupid" ( :D ) but was a proper business deal with a Contract. They have not made any effort to trace him as Pattaya is so big despite addresses and locations he frequents and a car registration number! They have put out a warrant for his arrest purely so far for the thefts and as you can see, no arrest for the Thai !!

You stand no hope of getting your money back or even getting him arrested. I had to use levels above and beyond to even get my case looked at, and am still no further. Lusty, I guess like me you will have to wave goodbye to your money. Mine is more serious as it was mortgaged against my house in UK, so weep no more, I have done enough for the two of us !! :o
