  1. I am so sorry i never got to meet the man in person. He always made me angry with his posts, but I would have loved to hear what he had to say face to face. I'll never forget that little mouse avatar (does that make me dorky?).

  2. That is unfortunately not true, I have asked around quite a bit.

Nearly all Thai beef is grass fed. Just go to your local market. Grain fed is more expensive so just look for the cheap stuff.

  3. Thanks, I am a little leery about the "ahan" all the proprietors are telling me about feeding their cattle here. I only have heard about one farm that does grass fed exclusively, but don't know the name.

It depends a bit on who's subset of paleo your following. Paleo has evolved a bit and most consider it macronutrient ratio agnostic. I.E. doesn't have to be really low carb.

Some people like endurance athletes need more carbs. Some people need less.

The core ideas of Paleo are to eat unprocessed foods and avoid problematic foods like refined sugars, grains, legumes and some form of dairy.

True grassfed beef is hard to come by in Thailand. Tops and Rimping sell some fairly expensive Australian beef.

As has been noted in the farming forum the grass in Thailand grows very fast and is watery and not particularly nutritious for cattle. Grains are just the endosperm of mature grass species and not unnatural food for grazers. It's just unhealthy when the animal is fed a large percentage of grains because they increase the Omega 6 to 3 ratio which is pro inflammatory.

Keep in mind grassfed just means a large percentage of grass in the diet.

A person can eat conventional grass/grain raised meats but would be wiser to eat leaner cuts and trim fat to avoid the excess omega 6 sources. Supplementing with a fish oil for Omega 3 would be helpful also.

Otherwise eating Paleo in Thailand is easy.

    Coconut oil and milk

Great selection of low starch vegetables

Plenty of low sugar fruits like lime, cucumber, avocado, tomato, grapefruit etc (botanical fruits)

decent selection of nuts like coconut, cashews, macadamia, chestnuts

  4. I am working on a project to build a youth center/skate park/music venue in town and need quality supplies that will last. Specifically plywood that is weather proof, in the US they use polymer composite wood or even pressurized plywood. I have been very discouraged trying to find this stuff here. Does anyone know if it is available in Thailand, better yet Chiang Mai?

  5. I am sure a lot of you know about this new diet/lifestyle called the Paleolithic/Primal diet. Essentially, it is cutting out carbs/starches/refined sugars from your diet. The difficult part of it is the main focus is on fatty red meat. There must be a local place that has grass fed beef to buy that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, doesn't there? I heard about a place called Chiang Mai Farms off of the canal road in Mae Hia area, any info on that?

  6. this is the sort of post we need on a quiet sunday. this is where all the minge bags get to tell us how tight they are. its one thing being a tightarse, but why would you want to let everyone know? nice one.

What an inappropriate reply. I don't like any of your replies actually.angry.gif

50 baht, if I'm in Bangkok.

  7. I love how people on here just start to go off based on little to no information. My group meets every Friday night from 7 to 10 or so and some of us can afford to pay "premium" prices and some cannot. There are only about two guys that are cheap. We have had as many as 13 people at a time and will become regulars at whatever establishment we choose. Happy Hour is just the initial draw. I think Chas was very pleased that we met at his place for almost three years every Friday night even if most of us didn't buy beers outside of his happy hour time. I really appreciate those of you who actually had input on this post. I have now checked out the Gekko Garden, we will meet there this Friday to see if the group enjoys the new location. Thanks to some, no thanks to most. I am interested in the 88 baht beer buffet, is that at Samoe?

  8. Since Tusker's is no more :( , I am trying to find a good bar/pub that has happy hour specials on Friday nights. The more chill the bar the better because discussions will be had and it helps to hear each other while conversing. Anyone have any suggestions? In the city is also helpful. Thanks in advance.

  9. Such a bummer deal, but Chas and Rachel are awesome and I wish them the best in the future. I just don't know where my Friday night Man Group is gonna go. Chas recommended the aforementioned Cafe of the Sun. Maybe we will check it out.

  10. All of this seems so complicated. How much time are we talking from CM to Vientiane total? I just need to get to the airport, is a visa necessary? How much does all this cost? would it be a better idea to just fly into the airport if the visa is expensive by ground?

  11. Frank's sister and one of his daughters contacted me on Facebook and wanted me to ask if someone could go to Frank's house and read him his email because that is their only form of contact with him. Apparently his partner isn't doing this for him and they are very worried. I don't know any of his friends, so I thought this would be the best way to ask. Thanks everybody.

  12. Great idea. But asking yourself= don't you think there is an over-emphasis on shrimp as a qualitiy yard stick??

    PLs take this constructively!

I think this is an ok map and I agree about the shrimp. I think it is an amazing idea though. It would be nice if TV could have a map like this that people could add to freely.

  13. well my secret is out of the bag city gym, wat chet yot, photharam road, soi 9 on the right from the super highway.

    Hi patong,

I drove to photharam rd, but couldnt find any gym on soi 9. Mostly houses there.

    Cheers!

Oops sorry I said the wrong name of the road. It is at the very end of soi 9 in what looks like a house on the right hand side corner of the T.
