  1. At riskof alienating the PC crowd my suggestion is a lot of rural Thai women are thick. Abhisit said they are stupid getting zero marks on a multi choice question paper....

The main advantage of intelligence is being able to hold more than one thought in your head at a time. My wife is thick as chocks this manifests itself in not understanding anything the first time around. I know a guy who says his wife is always three sentences behind him. Then she misses out a bunch to catch up. Another guy says his wife never hears the first half of a sentence. This is all to do with intelligence.

On the other hand my wife is a real tryer and if a tap needs fixing she wont notice until you point it out, then she will fix it. Give thoughts and ideas time to settle and so long as something more stimulating doesn't come along ( within the next few weeks) then she understands in her basic way what to do.

There is no point disliking this trait in Thai women, it exists and the only way round it is to meet someone more intelligent. The bars are loaded with bright young women, Talk to them and they say ' cant get boyfriend farange prefer stupid'.

So 'we are hoist with our own petard' as someone said, or in English 'you made your bed so lie in it;.

  2. But meawhile, I find the BTS and MRT incredibly efficient, clean ... and air conditioned ... and cheap. Definitely much better than NYC, Paris, London, etc., etc.

I have always thought so too, that the BTS and MRT is world standard. Certainly beats the ones in Melbourne where you can wait an hour for a train.

Yes and when the fares drop and there are more trains to pay for and the overcrowding starts, will it still be world class?
  3. If he does not go for gay men,

but still goes for women and sometimes ladyboys,

    bisexual is the only conclusion.

Perhaps this is just my lack of knowledge of bisexuality, but I think bi-sexual men find masculine looking men attractive?

If you had any understanding of the psychology of "Ladyboys" etc. you'd realize how inane that statement is. A majority of them are 'women' in a 'mans' body, essentially to the point of being born with the wrong body parts which surgery now allows them to correct.

Right.. though it seems that a large majority does not get full conversion surgery. That would seem they are most comfortable being themselves, neither fully male nor fully female.

Holding discussions with ladyboys who work the sex trade has indicated that a large proportion of ladyboys keep their penis' because the tourists like them. This again suggests that they are indeed comfortable being themselves even if they hold a dream to live a less complicated life as females.

  4. Jingthing's perspective on this topic is invaluable because gay men are just not into ladyboys.

Some gay men are--CLEARLY--into gay transvestites or transexuals. Ladyboys are not females.

    Let's remember our science class:

Female - a person bearing two X chromosomes. I'm fairly sure that definition has not changed.

Homosexuality - romantic or sexual attraction or behavior between members of the same gender.

Not wanting to admit that you are gay does not make you straight.

    • Y chromosome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cached
Block all en.wikipedia.org results 2.4.1 High mutation rate; 2.4.2 Inefficient selection; 2.4.3 Genetic drift ... Males haveone Y chromosome and one X chromosome, while females have ... Among humans, some men have two Xs and a Y ("XXY", see Klinefelter's syndrome), or one X .... When errors occur, it can use other parts of itself as a template to correct ...

    • Now was your science class comprehensive in its teaching or just the basics??????????

  5. hey nervous surgeon, you asked the question.. put up with the answers, some are humerus ,some stretch logic a bit. I was going to give a long sensible answer but you dont deserve it. here is the abbreviated bit for the other readers.

ladyboys are hornier, they hit the ground running no need to spend two days trying to get close. bar girls are somewhere in between but definitely not a 100% successful strike rate....

If i go out for an hour maybe i dont want to hang around......lol

  6. You know all the cops bosses. You are in cloud cookoo land if you believe you are so safe.

I saw a chap attacked by a woman while leaving a bar and the police he was drinking with at the time walked away from the scene........

Another chap asked his police colonel for help and the colonel wanted 300,000baht. He didnt pay, the colonel lost face. The guy was then in real trouble.............

However if you pay the police in advance...................

  7. The court last month ordered Parliament to halt the consideration of a Bill to set up an elected assembly to amend the Constitution......................

Puea Thai says it ........... amending the Constitution to return power from the establishment elites - appointed judges and bureaucrats - back to politicians ...........

Bit of a predictable stalemate. The appointed judges (court) are hardly going to promote a situation allowing the politicians to remove power from the appointed judges!

  8. Now i am seriously confused.

Project was cancelled and NOW he wants to brief the Chinese?

And what do Chinese have to do with Thailand and NASA?

Good to see Thai government is exercising its sovereignty.

Will they also be changing the currency soon?

Indeed, China raised no concerns over the project as Beijing could distinguish between a pure scientific project and a military operation, Surapong said.

The Foreign Ministry and Nasa had informed China about the proposed cooperation, he said. It seems clear that the Chinese already knew about the project and therefore surapong is trying to justify himself but why he thinks taking old news to China reinforces his position I cannot imagine

  9. In the end, the truth will always out..............China is pulling the strings.

All these offers of investments in railways, business areas in Bangkok etc come with an unwritten message.

" We're paying the piper, we're calling the tune ".

    Too true,

As a colony of China, he's doing the right thing keeping his masters informed..

Grovel, grovel, "Yes sir, very'umble sir".

Fortunately for him, tugging of the forelock has gone out of fashion.

Not so much gone out of fashion as, in his case, gone out of reach., however this explanation I found fits Thailand to a Tee.

"Back in the days of long ago when there were servants and subservience, the lower classes would tug their forelocks or touch their forelocks as a sign of respect to their betters. (In Thailand the wai and deep bow are used).

A return to forelock-tugging would be a return to the days of unquestioning respect for someone purely on grounds of their apparent status in society. The doctor is right and we hold him in awe, simply because he is a doctor. "

I think you will find that saluting and forelock tugging goes back to the days when faces were covered by armour. The symbol now is a symbolic update 'of revealing your identity'. Of course the 'betters' were the first to drop the habit although in the services the salute is returned.......

  10. Seems like a fair sentence...

As for the damages to tourism, without condoning violence, 10 egyptians piling into a tuk-tuk refusing to pay 40bht each, no sure it's the kind of tourist Thailand needs in the first place.

my sympathy is with the driver. He agrees a passenger load of 6 then 10 people jump out of the hedgerow.....it would p1ss me off.

  11. The facts of life speak for themselves. There is no need for emotive language about trust and love and secret accounts. I (UK) was divorced after 20 years. Jim (USA) after 15, Bjorn ( Sweden) after 6, Noi ( Thai) after 12....etc etc

Times change and current thinking rightly or wrongly is that the law doesn't attribute blame in most breakups. It doesnt make any sense for someone to assume that the forces of change that ripple through society are going to pass them by. Young people have more opportunity to recover from change but they are not more likely to undergo it. How does anyone know how disease or disaster will affect their relationship. One unfortunate statistic is that people recovering from cancer or potential killer often see life as too important to carry on in the same way as before; they move on wanting to live a bit more as each day is more important; they divorce.

What would you do if your house was destroyed, someone needed a ton of money, your family found you a burden, someone died.

You can plan. For example in rural Thailand you can easily rent a house for 3,000baht per month, you can easily live on the current pension, thats not to say you will be able to in 10 years after no indexation or inflation etc have had a go at it. Many people live under the radar.I know one old guy who uses an old store card as an ID card. No one knows the difference. Where you come flom? I come flom Macro!

The real problem is not whether your family will support you but whether in the event of a change you can communicate with the locals and whether or not some kindly sole will step in and check you are OK. I have thought this through and made sure English is an available language in the local hospital. I know many old people supported by old ( over 40!) ladies grateful for a roof and food. I have chosen Thailand its a great place.

  12. There is something wrong with this story. You come to Thailand and run a family then when the going gets tough cut and run, dump the wife and daughter and escape with the money. it must be love! I guess for the average person this would be the second time he has cut and run....

When/if my cash becomes at risk I will be cutting down on the bills not the family I live with.

My advice to others in similar circumstances is to assess the performance of the investments and see if there can be any improvement, this will mean doing research and probably paying for advice. If the existing investments are not doing the job then change the strategy. The next thing is a lot of money should be converted into the currency of your country of residence. This way you avoid translational erosion ( exchange rate nightmares). Of course these points wont apply to people on only pension income but the original poster said he was living on investment income.

  13. Interesting that it was Bangkok police who raided the bar.

The bar must be paying tea-money to the local police, otherwise they wouldn't have been in business this long.

If they had stopped paying the money, it would have been the Pattaya police who would have raided.

    But this was Bangkok police.

This sort of thing always pisses off the local Pattaya police, as it is always seen as stepping on their turf, and rather messes up the protection racket if they cannot guarantee protection.

There is no way that the Bangkok police happened to stumble upon this place and found to their horror that there might be prostitution taking place. It is no different to any other of the many gogo bars in Pattaya.

They went to Pattaya with the specific aim of taking this manager down.

This generally means one thing: someone paid the Bangkok police to raid Secrets.

The manager must have made an enemy somewhere along the line.

One grumbles about the Thai police, but often it turns out that it was another Westerner who engineered this situation.

    ranma

not necessarily. It could be police rivalry and a Bangkok colonel got pissed off with an arrogant Pattaya colonel and decided to take out his best paying source....................... same rivalry, different gang.

  14. Another idiotic platitude aimed at calming the uninformed and ignorant. We hear similar so often that its not worth commenting on the detail. Please insert as necessary:

the Government can cope with the...

The ..... will not happen again

Government giving handouts ( really?) to the people as a result of the .............

Trust us in the matter of........

The art of government: Take from the poor and give to the rich, but tell the poor its going to change for the better..........

  15. The adaptor issue would be a problem if the children are going to take the tablets home. Most homes in rural areas will not accept three pin plugs. I have seen many plugs with the third pin sawn off!!

The electrician who wired my new house didnt understand the third wire of the cable I had purchased so removed it. However It came in useful for running earthing wires from the washing machine etc out through holes in the wall.

  16. Thai government is going to announce that kids can't leave school until they have learned something, anything. This will lead to an ageing student population. Building toilets in schools will therefore benefit the elderly

The quickest solution is not to replace the squats but to build up a ledge on either side of the squats using the now-declared-useless computer tablets.
