  1. I resent the comment "A good place to find these shining examples of manhood is the Thai Visa Forum." I own a business,(not a bar) employe over 30 Thai's, live in Thailand with my wife (not a Thai) and three kids, I mix with other expats, none in the bar business and one 1 has a Thai wife, what sort of idiot can make that type of blanket assertion, gutter misinformed press!

    Guess it's good for readership

  2. Freely available? to whom?

THis is information that should be on TV and national news papers and radio stations, not on obscure sites on the net.

It's like the notice in H2G2TG - In the disused toilet in the basement with a sign on the door saying "beware of the Leopard"

just a cursory glance at some of the posts on this site will show you the extent of ignorance on the subject.

This nothing to do with "wrapping in cotton wool" it is a right to know!

There should be signs on beaches and a first aid kit with vinegar in it.

and as if to bear this out, most of the addresses you've given are 2 years old or so - and what has been done in the mean time?

"wrapping in cotton wool" does not does not mean that you have the right to be informed

  3. I'm very sad to hear of anyone passing from an untimely occurrence, but if every event that could possible lead to death be published I think that we would not go any where at all. Western governments in particular are starting to wrap people in cotton wool, maybe we should have a caution when anyone is born some what like on packet of cigarettes, something like " CAUTION living life to the fullest can cause untimely death"

Living life to fullest is fun!!!!!!!!!

  4. WRONG..... The French Government has not collapsed. It has resigned in order that ministers do not have to be dismissed ahead of the re-shuffle and is a mere formality. The thread title is completely inaccurate and should be removed immediately. That's the last time I bother to pay any attention to the international news stories on this site. annoyed.gif

    Up 2 u.

As Ulysses says it is a better attention grabber.

Chill. Stop knocking things it is not the end of the world especially if France disappears completely.

A some what uncalled for comment, particularly for those lovers of french wine and food

  5. It mentions in the newspaper article that under Thai Law minors can marry with the permission of the parents, either this law should be changed or the definition of minors should be changed, married at say 8 or 9 years old is outrageous.

What would happen if a well heeled older foreigner came, paid the parents and ended up marrying the minor, (as if this probably has never happened) and sleeping with the minor, would this constitute pedophilia in the eyes of the Thai law?

  6. From my experience it takes them three to four weeks to process the application and return the passport if the application is sent direct to the Embassy. They are also very unhelpful when you phone them, I had a bad experience and was spoken to rather badly by the woman concerned.

Why is it the the Australian Embassies (world wide I might add) employ people, and not necessary Australian citizens, who have a knack or being rude, arrogant to the extreme and most unhelpful. I remember going to the Australian Embassy in Moscow when I had my passport stolen dealing with a Russian lady who gave me the third degree about getting a passport ( this is showing a photocopy of my passport, my Australian drivers license, my Russian registration papers, my medicare card) at the end of demanded to see her supervisor, which was sullenly granted after one hour of refusing to move, the supervisor came down, she was Australian and withing 10 minutes i had everything sorted out....

  7. I take the warning for what I think it is meant to do......when one goes on holidays, take care.

Aw, shucks. You mean I should not:

    - hoon around on a motorbike, drunk and without helmet?

    - take lots of counterfeit viagra in order to screw as many locals as possible?

    - accept dodgy new friends as family and willingly take that suspicious package back home for "Mum"?

    - experiment with new "vitamins"?

    - fit all my mates (all 5) on one motorcycle just like the locals?

    - clamber onboard the leaky boat after the full moon party where I saw the boat captain getting drunk too?

    - drink and drive?

    - get into drunken brawls with Russians?

    - carry my own firearms "for protection"?

    - asssume "she looks18" is acceptable legal defense?

    - be rude, loud and belligerent when the locals don't understand me?

Geez, it's gonna be a boring holiday! :whistling:

hahaha you must frequent the same place as me..... and I'm still alive

  8. The problem is when people go overseas they do things which is out of their comfort zone with out thinking of the potential consequences, visitors to Thailand aren't the only people who do things which brings their life into danger, for example

Northern Territory police have found body of a German tourist who went missing two days ago.

The 63-year-old man went on a bush walk in Kakadu National Park on Friday morning and did not return.

His body was found away from the main path, about three kilometres from the carpark of Kakadu's popular tourist destination Nourlangie Rock.

It is believed the man was not carrying any water when he set off on the 12-kilometre walk.

Does that mean that German tourists are going to stop coming to Australia, the same thing applies to those coming to Thailand, I'm sure the over the years some ex-prisoner of war visiting the Thailand Burma railway has met an un-timely death, but doing things out of the ordinary in an extraordinary place like Thailand makes the risk worthwhile

  9. I wonder how many foreigners die in

Australia every year ? I think it will be more than the amount of Australians who die here in Thailand ?

You are comparing ALL foreigners dying in Australia, to ONLY Australians dying in Thailand.

I wonder how many Thais die in Australia each year. Probably a lot less than Australians dying in Thailand.

Probably a lot more than anyone would imagine, a lot of migrants still keep their original nationality so technically they are not Australian Citizens, so you could have a migrant from the UK or Thailand who dies a natural death, but still comes under the statistics of a foreigner dying in Australia, I think the interesting statistic would be to find out the percentage of those who died from no natural causes, not wanting to be ghoulish on this Halloween

  10. Mr. Purcell go back to Australia and involve yourself of politics there! Don't come back. You are not welcome here by the Thais and us foreigners. You give us a bad name. :annoyed:

Not sure he is wanted back in Australia.......... He forgot the 1st rule when visiting another country, in my humble opinion, which is don't interfere in the politics of the country which you are visiting, in all likelihood you won't fully understand it, and any actions can reflect on other visitors. If you don't like the policies of a particular country .... just don't go there.

  11. I am fairly impatient when it comes to shopping, I like to get done as quick as I can. So I empathize with what for me would be an extremely frustrating situation. My wife is pretty good, when she shops for something the requires more thought, she doesn't mind that I disappear and meet her later somewhere.

Any good shops has a bar within walking distance IMHO

  12. No, however I believe in true liberty and not being a slave to a few powerful governments agenda.

Make no mistake, there are hundreds of arms dealers in the world but there is a reason Victor has been seen as a target. And it is not because DoJ cares about some people in a village in Africa.

He became a target because the DEA was after the FARC which traffic a lot of narcotics. Victor Bout was also in drug shipments so that's why the DEA set up this whole sting to catch him.

It seems to me they bungled the extradition request; instead of asking extradition for illegal arms dealing they should have requested extradition for drugs dealing.

Hearsay, if you can't get him one thing try and get him on an emotive subject. Don't you think if that had evidence of that they would not have used it?

  13. Update:

US 'disappointed and mystified' by Bout ruling: diploma

BANGKOK: -- The United States is "disappointed and mystified" by a Thai court's decision to reject a request for the extradition of Russian alleged arms dealer Viktor Bout, a senior US diplomat said Tuesday.

"We are disappointed and mystified by the court's ruling. We think the facts of the case are relevant to Thai laws," James Entwistle, the deputy chief of mission at the US embassy in Bangkok, told reporters.

The court said that it did not have the authority to punish "actions done by foreigners against other foreigners in another country."

    -- AFP 2009-08-11

Mystified, that's rich coming from a country that would have to be the largest supplier of weapons in the world, maybe the US does not like competition, I wonder what would happen if the Palestinians take the US to task for supplying Israel weapons that they use indiscriminately against non combatants?? (and before anyone asks I'm not against Israel existing but hate they way they can try and justify taking over the occupied lands with settlements and the way they treat the Palestinian people in a similar way that the Germans treated the Jews in WWII)

It's good to see a sensible outcome in this case
