  1. So its seems everyone thinks its a no , which was pretty much what i expected, but i did think maybe someone might have been a bit more positive, but anyway im not going too end the relationship because of this that wouldnt be fair on her or me and i would always wonder if it would have worked. but i think time will tell if it works or not , still a bit away from making the visa so im just going to chill out relax and see what happens. Youre only here the once so you might as well make the best of it, what will be will be :)

I dont think your girlfriend will agree with that statement, she thinks she will be back many times :o:lol::o

I would try and educate your GF about where you live so she has an understanding of the remoteness before she comes.

You should really take her for a visit in midwinter so she knows first hand how harsh the climate is

If she wants to come back and stay after that then at least she knows what she's in for.

Good luck, I hope it works out well for you both.

  2. We had an Italian come to our village, 45 kms north of Korat, about 7 years ago with the same scam.

I told him I would give him the 2,000 baht he wanted for his very nice leather jacket but not for the fake rolex. He didnt like that one bit and become very offensive. Needless to say he left the village without any money.

  3. Girl in the pizza shop spok very good english to me the other day. I asked her where she learned today when paying my bill. She was Squirming with embarassment until she finally confessed she had lived in Australia. Why so ashamed? I mean, maybe she got a scholarship to read for her PHD at a university there. Why should I automatically assume she shagged her way there and came back with enough cash for the cheeky little Vios she drives around in.

ANother "woman" there has just got a new (red plate) mazda 2. One doesn't have to guess too hard as to how she paid for it. Obviously it was from serving pizza. in our quiet little village.

Big assumptions, and not very nice ones.

If you see a black man driving a Benz, do you assume he's a drug dealer? - some people do.

Didn't you used to drive a Benz Loz :):D :D

  4. :) here we go again - pattaya expats claiming the city is a cosmopolitan, clean-cut metropolis, perfect for families, with not even a hint of vice. :D

    Khun poot lor len.......

It's a sh*th*le and everyone knows it. Just people protecting their (non-) investment :D:D:D

  5. The mind wobbles.....

No your Tuk Tuk wobbles :D:D

Seriously Loz, do you really expect people to answer that :D:D

There is an ongoing thread here from a guy who thinks he has caught his long time live in gf and mother of his kids cheating on him with an Italian. Not suprisingly he is not a happy bunny!!!

TIT you pay your money and take your chance :):D

Don't know if he is younger

    Apologies for misinformation.

  6. Always up early Loz that's when I enjoy the village the most.

The tranquility before the villagers awaken is a special time for me. I can enjoy the sunrise before the mayhem breaks loose :D:D

I have heard many stories about wives being caught out though mainly with Thais. Strangely most of the husbands choose to do nothing about it :):D

  8. Get DNA done on the kids before making any long range plan's

    Why?

Never tought about this, and if so it doens't change anything, i love my kids.

    So maybe better don't know.

I agree with you needforspeed they are your kids and you love them.

I have to admire your fortitude and patience in handling this situation.

I too have read the Chris Stanley blog and his situation is truly horrendous but I can help but think that he allowed himself to be robbed blind over a number of years.

I am certain you will not do the same.

    Chok Dee.............

  9. The Honourary Consul in Hull is a business and as such will issue Visas to all who ask.

Several years ago when I needed to do my first Extension of Stay based on Marriage they (Hull) insisted I needed a new Non-Imm 'O' Visa before travelling back to Thailand and extending my stay. Knowing no better I paid about 100 GBP for a Visa I did not need.

When I arrived at Don Muang the Immigration Officer was confused as to why I had the Visa from Hull and after consultation with her boss stamped me in on my original Non Imm "O" and told me that I needed to go to Suan Plu the following week to start the extension process.

For those who want a multi-entry Non Imm 'O' Hull is a very user friendly Honourary Consul, however I would double check any advice they give with the Thai Embassy in London.

  10. Almost opposite "The Mall"

A cheaper option just a few minute walk further on same side is "The KS Pavilion Hotel"

The beds in the KS Pavilion hotel are very hard, same as sleeping on the floor.

    Barry

The beds in the renovated rooms are quite comfortable now. I stay there regularly and think its good value for money.

For me it is the Chaopraya that has the hardest beds in Korat. Stayed there one time and never again!!

  11. I agree with sinbin there are more than enough restaurants and supermarkets selling farang food here.

Many people have mooted the idea of a specialist farang food shop in the 7 years I have lived here and none, including myself, has followed it through.

The farang population of Korat and its environs has increased dramatically in the last couple of years and probably will continue to grow. However many people are on fixed income pensions etc. and that coupled with the strength of the Baht leaves little disposable income each month.

As suggested read koratfarang.com and you will get a good idea of what goes on in the farang comminity in Korat.

  12. Regardless of it's ranking, Korat is a large city with a growing farang population. Many farang have relocated here from more expensive parts of Thailand.

It is not a tourist centre so if you are seeking all mod cons and top class farang venues then forget it. If you are happy to settle for a more sedate way of life then Korat fits that bill.

  13. Yes I know the law is on the books but so is wearing a helmet when riding a motorbike.

I was asking if you, or anyone else, knew of a case where a court voided a lease or usufruct and the reasons why.

As a married man with usufructs I am also an Interested Observer :)

If you have doubts as to your legal position then I strongly recommend you ask a good lawyer.

No I have no doubts about my legal position and have been guided by good lawyers. I am merely curious if anyone actually knows of such a case.

  14. If you are already legally married in Thailand, which it appears you are, then any agreement made between the husband and wife is voidable by either party. Therefore, if your wife gives you a lease or usufruct on her property it offers no long term security since it can be voided in the future.

    <snip>

Do you know of any cases where a lease or usufruct has been voided and for what reason was it voided.

I have a few usufructs and am married so have a vested interest in knowing more.

The law is on the books......so.......best to keep the wife happy; see the Thailand Civil and Commercial Code, Section 1469 . Google it!
