There are storage facilities for bikes and cars in most cities.

I used a place here in Pattaya  secure facility all the bikes are put in a locked garage.

    http://www.ustoreitpattaya.com/   550 b a month.

They start them once a week got back after 3 months everything was fine.

    Owner speaks good English.

For 550 baht you get a room 1.2m x 1.2m x 0.8m.  You did't say what kind of motorcycle you are purchasing, but it seems you will need to keep it below 50cc to have any chance of storing it in this size room.

Is this a long term plan of travelling in and out of Thailand?  If you plan on one trip or infrequent trips, maybe wait until you come back to Thailand for the bike purchase?  Otherwise, say 2-3 months, pull the battery and leave it on a battery tender in your room, purchase a disk brake lock, cover the bike.

  3. Never mind all this pay-to-view nonsense.  Listen to Ireland32 ..... get you a Smart TV box where you can enjoy any U.S. sport with an internet connection.  Don't spend less than $50 on the box.  The cheap ones are too slow.

  4.  The "special" license requirement for motorcycles over 400cc to be introduced makes no sense (not unusual in Thailand).  The special license should be required for motorcycles LESS than 400cc as all the morons here ride these smaller bikes.  Yes, I know few drive here with a license anyway. The greater than 400cc rule is being introduced because the government feels if one can afford these larger bikes they can afford another useless license.

  5.   You seem to be sold on the Aerox?  They certainly are nice looking but the brander Nmax has same engine with dual disc brakes.  Personally, I would not purchase a bike in this day and age without dual disc brakes.

I owned a PCX several years ago (prior to the Nmax being available), and I was not happy with it.  They are very popular but I didn't like the way it handled and it had a problem where the bike would shake/vibrate when taking off, caused by the clutch.  I hear this problem has been resolved by Honda over the years?

Presently I own a Vespa GTS 150.  It's great!  Had it for almost a year now.  At the moment, I feel it would take a special scooter in the future for me to consider anything but a Vespa.... assuming I can still afford one as they are not cheap.

Watch out for chikungunya, I had it last year and it was the worst illness I have ever had. Same precautions as Dengue, cover up , clean up surroundings and apply bug spray liberally.

I've had both Dengue and Chikungunya.  Short term, Dengue was much worse.  I didn't want to do anything for several days, it completely drained me.  But recovery was quick.  The initial joint pain from Chikungunya is extreme a day or two after being bitten.   The joint pain recovery time took over six weeks.

I chose Chiang Mai as a place to live 32 years ago when it was little more than a big country village with no major highways and little traffic. Todays city is almost unrecognisable in size and content. The transformation has taken place in an unplanned and unregulated rush of a type unknown to most western countries. Massive amounts of construction, the movement of sand, soil and cement in uncontrolled ways, the introduction of highways always under 'improvement' meaning the cars are disturbing dust at all times, and all in a valley surrounded by hills. You cant add a million cars, thousands of houses, hundreds of condo's and shopping venues in 30 years without making a mess, which is of course exactly what we have.

My thoughts exactly Lungstib.  I too would have moved to Chiang Mai some 32 years ago had there been an airport.  It was a beautiful small town back then.  Now it is a mini Bangkok.  Unfortunately I moved from Bangkok to Pattaya which was also nice 32 years ago.  Pattaya has also turned into a crowded, polluted dump that gets worse every day.
