I submitted my request to a Nordic embassy, and got a response the following day requesting some additional information. A week later I was confirmed to have an "approved CoE", but that I'm in the QUEUE for the next flight (which happened 2 weeks later.) So although there might not be seats available, at least my embassy, which coordinated everything together with the German TH embassy, sent a confirmation for the approved CoE (draft.)

Ask your wife to call them, alternatively ask your wife to send them a message to their FB page. Seems to work.

Update: I reached somebody at the consulate and have an appointment next week!
    Thanks all for the help!!!

There is no reason for it to take that long unless it is due to a lack of available repatriation flights.

Agreed. But even then, the courtesy of a response would be nice seeing how I contacted them (politely) multiple times. The uncertainty of not knowing what's going to happen is really awful ... especially for my young son.

I assume you are married to a Thai and/or are the parent of a Thai. That is way you can apply for a certificate of entry for family reunification.

You have to apply for the certificate of entry at the Thai embassy or official consulate where you are staying.

It seems you need to contact the embassy in Berlin again. http://german.thaiembassy.de/

Or one of the official consulates. Royal Thai Consulate General in Munich or Royal Thai Consulate General in Frankfurt

I did. I already submitted all of the documents (six weeks) ago, and then followed up. I have not even heard back once.

  4. Hi everybody,

I had to leave Thailand in May and have not been able to go back to my family. I'm stuck in Germany and have not been able to get any response from the embassy and different consulates. The one time I talked to somebody, they told me I can't just show up at the embassy and I need to email instead, which I did and never heard back. I qualify for the program to reunite families, and I submitted all of the required documents (weeks ago) but have not heard back.
Has anybody overcome a similar situation?
Is it possible to go to an embassy at another EU country and try to get the exception/visa from there?
I know others are in the same situation, but this is really tough on my family, especially my young son, so any tips would be appreciated.
    thanks!

  5. Does anybody know what the rules are for somebody who entered Thailand illegally but now wants to legalize his status. In the US, I think they'd have to leave and then get in line, so I am wondering what the law says here.

Can somebody who entered illegally apply to be legalized inside Thailand? There are a couple of people I know who arrived here from Myanmar without a passport but now have received one and I told them I'd check. I'm surprised that they care. The gardener of the place where I stayed in Samui had been there for a long time and it seems there is not much of a crackdown on illegal immigrants in Thailand.

In an unrelated question, when would a foreigner have to show a visa? I didn't have to do it for traveling by train or bus, only for plane trips.

  6. My parents are visiting Chiang Mai at the end of the month and I hope to find them a guide to show them around for the week. They speak German and English, though a German guide would be ideal. I am quite sure they'll pay handsomely for this, so if anybody knows such a guide, or has ideas of how I could find one (e.g., would it make sense to go to the university and find a student who studies German?) please let me know. I think they are only planning on the routine stuff and won't need the greatest expert in the world to show them around.

    Thanks a bunch!

  7. I am looking to buy a bicycle (new or used) on Samui. I am in Chaweng but would go elsewhere. I have only seen new ones at Tesco Lotus, but they all seemed too small (I am 6'1" or 185 cm).

Does anybody know of another place to look. I would like something with a gear shift since I plan on taking some extensive trips. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  8. Yes, when returning you will get a free 30 day permission to stay at the airport. But if you want to stay longer I advise you to get a tourist visa in Germany at a Thai consulate, currently a single is free and would give you another 60 day to be extended with 30 days for 1,900 baht.

You could also get a double entry tourist visa, so that would be almost 180 days with only 1 border run.

    Edit:

most consulates in Europe will allow you to apply by mail.

Thanks Mario. So I can continue that process through September? I actually budgeted for several trips throughout Asia, so I see the visa runs not so much as a problem but rather an opportunity to go to other places. I guess I could apply for the visa in any case and then I have the option of taking these trips and don't HAVE to do them.

  9. I apologize in advance for asking a question that many of you have probably already answered a million times, and I have a pretty good idea what my situation is but would like to be certain.

I am 35 years old and a German citizen and a US resident. I arrived here (Ko Samui) last month and am planning to stay for most of the year. In Washington, I applied for and received a 60-day visa and plan on asking for the 30-day extension in the Ko Samui immigration office.

At the end of April, when my 90 days are almost up, I am flying to Germany to attend my brother's wedding.

My question is about what will happen then.

Will it be uncomplicated for me to return at the beginning of May and get a 30-day visa? Will I get that 30-day permit at the port of entry or is there a longer process involved? My second question is about the rest of my time. My understanding is that all I have to do is to leave (by plane) every 30 days (or my ground transportation every 15 days), meaning that I have to take one international trip once a month from May through September to be able to stay for my intended duration. Is that correct?

Will this involve application processes or can I just leave the country, show up again and then be allowed to stay another 30 days?

If my understanding of the process is wrong, can somebody please advise me on how I can stay on Samui until at least September.

I really enjoy this forum and want to thank you already for your help.
