  1. The wife and I had to relocate to Texarkana, not a oriental grocery store in sight. Just about everyone down here thinks all oriental food is chinese food. Not a Thai resturant in the city.

I went to Dallas last weekend and found a very nice Vietnamese grocery store (Saigon Mall) that has evrything we need except Holy Basil (GRAPAO). We checked 3 other store and haven't had any luck.

So if there is anyone in the Dallas , Texarkana or Little Rock areas that know where I can get some fresh Grapao or even order it on line I would truely appreciate the info.

Also if there are any Thai's living in Texarkana area who would like to meet one of the best Thai cooks in the states send me a PM.

Padkapow Guy is not happy without grapao so any help is appreciated

    thanks

  2. Most of the Thai resturants around the area I live in (Greenbay Wisconsin)are Thai in name only. They are usually own by chinese or hmong. They are terrible thai food but ok oriental food and my belief is that 90% of westerners would not know real thai food if it jumped up and bit them in the ARSE! Most of my friends always tell me how good the food is but when we go to these places we always find out hat they are not real thai's or thai food. But yes there are a bunch of so called Thai resturants and they are booming.

The closest thing to a real thai resturant that I have found is in Chicago, and thats a 4 hour drive.

  3. The wife and I have been married over 18 years and the only money she has given her family is to help out during her mothers funeral. When we visit Thailand we always pay for everything but never give away money for nothing. When the family knows we are in Thailand they come from all over makeing overnight bus trips just to get the chance to ask for money. We have never given them any. The most we will do is give them the bus fare back to where they came from.

It never fails they are full of excuse why they need money. But my wife always ask them what would they do if she was not in Thailand and tells them thats what they should do now. Other than my wife there is only one sister who is not lazy and works her butt off, and the funny thing is she never asks for money. I think the problem is to many falangs give to much money there thai families and word gets around that the dumb falangs give away money. Now they all expect it. Some lose face with their friends when they don't get anything after bragging about having a falang relative. After all these years of visiting thailand and explaining to them that we have to save our money all year so we can visit thailand they still don't get it and probably never will.

bottom line is my thai wife is on my side.

  5. Yes their passports are valid, as they just renewed them @ 2 years ago.

I am not encouraging them to stay and hope for a green card. I personally would like to see them return to Thailand or atleast far enough away from my home so the can not bother my wife and I. They are worst than kids. Every little thing the come running to us for help.

not to metion that the one lady makes $3000.00 US and does not or has not paid 1 cent in taxes. That 228,000 US dollars tax free. That kind chaps my arse a bit.

May I ask what kind of business? Pm me if you don't want to say it here... :o

Believe it or not she is a waitress. She works at one of the few oriental resturants in a small paper mill town. This town also has the distinction of having more millionaires per capita than any other town in the U.S.

The owner is getting cold feet about having illegals work for him so now he told her to leave. Plus the word got out about how much money she was making so now all the much younger and prettier legal Thai girls are bucking for her job.

  6. If they turn themselves in to US immigration, they will have to stay at an immigration jail for a 1 month and then stand trail. Then they will send them home. Regarding punishments in Thailand, there won't be any punishment but I think their passport is probably already expired so have them go consult the nearest Thai consulate in the US to try to obtain a new passport.

You don't have to clear immigration to leave the US. As long as you have a valid passport, you can board the plain. The airlines don't check your visa on exiting the country. So, in other words, they can just leave.

Thailand also does not care as long as they have a valid Thai passport. (And even if it was expired, they could get in renewed at the Royal Thai Embassy or just show up in Thailand. ) Immigration will make them sign a few forms on arrival, but that's about it.

This is what I thought but could not remember for sure.(old age)

    thanks

  7. I am very surprised though that you mention they 'take/steal/ toast and/or eggs. Chinese don't eat toast or eggs for breakfast unless there's nothing else; Chinese eat 3 times warm food/day and would rather eat Thai food than toast.

Stay at the Mecure in Pattaya for a week, and if it does not happen to you atleast 5 times out of the 7 days of your stay I will gladly pay for your Hotel room. It was happening to me so much that the waiters & staff use to stand guard for me when I would put my toast in the toaster. They would stay there until I came back for my toast so that the chinese would not take it.

  8. Tour groups at immigration are the worse IMO

I could not agree with this more. I stayed at the Mercure in Pattaya which unfortunitly needs the tour groups to stay a float.

The chinese that stay there are so rude that by the end of the week I feel like pulling there heads off. They are constantly cutting in line and trying to steal your toast or eggs that you are in line waiting for. They are also constantly bumping into you reaching over your shoulder trying to get some food. The Hotel staff even commented that they are the worst guest that the hotel has but they need there money to keep the hotel running. They say that the chinese steal food from the breakfast buffet to take on the tour bus. They fill there purses and shopping bags with food. The staff tells them every day that they cannot do this but the refuse to listen.

I never been to China and I must say that if these people are a glimpse of what chinese people are like , I don't think I will ever go there. I know it was said earlier that you can't judge a country by a small amount of people you meet from it but I disagree. I sure not all act that way but I think the majority probably does. If they don't act like this in China then what is it that makes them act this way in Thailand?

The Mercure is a very nice hotel and I have been staying there alot lately, but these tour groups are starting to make me rethink where to stay.

  10. My wife has a couple of Thai friends who have over stayed there U.S. visa (approx 8 years) who want to come back to Thailand. They asked me if they will have to pay any fines for over staying.

As far as I know, as long as they do not get caught by U.S. Immagration on there way out I think they would be ok. I don't know what to expect from the Thai Immagration. I can't ever remember seeing any U.S. immagration on my way out of the U.S. Other than security checks and the airline check in counter know ones ever asked to see our passports on the way out.

Does anyone have any info on what they can expect when they return to Thailand?

    thanks

  11. I think the Packers just have too much for Seahawks on any field; but

especially on the "frozen tundra of Lambeau Field" against the boys from the temperate zone.

The weather forecast calls for a high of 25 degrees. It's gonna get chilly out there.

    I'd guess something like Packers 27 - Seahawks 14.

    George

I hope it gets alot colder than 25 degrees. Thats a heat wave at Lambeau. We had a sh1t load of rain here over the last couple of days and the snow has all melted. It's currently 34 degrees. Just last week they were looking for people to help shovel out the snow in seats at Lambeau. The weather is a little crazy.

I may have jinks the Pack, after shoveling all the snow from the prior weeks I fixed my snow blower so now it will not snow anymore , and I am expecting nice weather. If it doesn't get below freezing and the Pack looses it all my fault. :o

I like the score you picked for the Packer game and your upset pick with the Giants. I hope so , that would mean the road for the SB for the NFC would have to go through Lambeau.

  12. I will be heading to Samui in early March. I have never been there and I am having trouble making up my mind on where to stay. I did narrow it down to either Chaweng or Lamai. Can someone please give me some pointers on the good and bad of both Chaweng and Lamai.

What I am looking for is a nice beach that not to crowed. Good seafood places and a nice easy going bar near the beach that is not filled with loud drunken patrons. My wife is more worried about the easy access to shopping and Thai food.

We also would like to know about any nice clean smoke free rooms in hotels in either of these areas. Up to 3000 baht / nite.

Any info would be much appreciated.

    thanks

  13. You may be happy George but

    AAAAAGGGGGHHHH!

I will be in mourning for the next cuple of days. My poor Steelers.

I have to admit that I did not have a warm and fuzzy feeling about them this year. It was like they lost there killer instinct.

I hope that I don't see the same thing with the Steelers as I did with Greenbay. They win the SB and next year or so they get a new coach who inherits a good team that keeps them in the hunt for a few years until they fall apart.

Sherman's lack of disipline wasted alot of Favre's talent on mediocre season. Sherman was a players coach who did not scream at the players and hold them accountable for their play and the Pack stumbled.

I hope that is not going to happen in Pittsburgh. There are some simularities with Sherman and Tomlin. The players all say they like him better than Cowher because he does not scream at them. Well I see alot of dumb penalties and lack of emotion out of the Steelers because they are not worried about getting their butts chewed on by their new coach.

I hope I am wrong about Tomlin. But now that the Steelers are done I will be jumping on the Packers band wagon. There coach is from the burgh so I feel the connection. Plus Favre Rules!

Congrats to Brady and Moss for there new records. I can recognize greatness when I see it.

  14. I had a bad feeling before the game even started. I honestly did not think the steelers would win, but I thought if any team could it would have been the steelers.

I have not heard the fat lady sing yet , so they may meet again in the playoffs.

    Congrats to the Pats.

  15. That test is hard. It has nothing to do with being proficient in English. My Mother failed and my father, who was in the air force and mastered in government, almost failed! Tough questions and it is suppose to change to a different format in the near future.

Also, the process is taking a lot longer now. They up'ed the fees a lot July 31st, so there was a huge flood of applications. The USCIS web site is now saying 16-18 months. Here is a quote from their website:

USCIS has received a significant increase in the number of applications filed. In July and August, nearly 2.5 million applications and petitions of all types were received. This compares to 1.2 million applications and petitions received in the same time period last year. This fiscal year, we received 1.4 million applications for naturalization; nearly double the volume we received the year before. The agency is working to improve processes and focus increased resources, including hiring approximately 1,500 new employees, to address this workload.

As a result, average processing times for certain application types may grow longer. In particular, naturalization applications filed after June 1, 2007 may take approximately 16-18 months to process.

If she studies the Questions in the Guide book she will have no problems, My wife did and she passed.

As you said you wife has been here 20 years before taking the test. They are alot easier on someone who has been here 20 years vs some one who has only been here 5 years. My buddies wife got her citizenship after 30 years in the U.S. and they only asked her one question. She got it right and passed and he said the apps fee are going up so you don't want to fail or it will cost you alot more money.

  16. None taken meatgrowler, thats why I wear them at home :D

But I said the new styles are less hideous. If I want fashion then I'll go for something a bit higher end than that. But then, I am a woman and realize that fashion and comfort rarely go together :o

The new styles look ok to me. I would still wear them even if they look like a block of cheese. They are damm comfortable.

My wife has three different pair(colors) so she styling. $30.00 US per pair but worth it to me.
