The US is in the beginning of the greatest depression in our life time IMO. Asia and Europe are not over inflated like the US market.
The consensus is the markets in the emerging markets are not over inflated like America.
The US will not help Thailand what so ever, it will doing good to lick it's on wounds for the next few years.
Thailand allies with the one that can push the most wealth their way. US , China? both are fixing to be pulling back for the next few years.
Personally I don't know how Thailand will cope.
So, a stupid article at best.

If all things were equal -- and they aren't -- I would be living in Palembang, Sumatra, where I spent time mid-90's. The west coast of Sumatra has waves much like Hawaii.
I was told back then things are conservative with the young women. You have to marry the girl. But, if you can afford it, you can marry 3.
Thanks for that Jerry, that is soooo interesting...

Was an expat there for over 10 years, never again. But, am coming back to visit friends. Then on to Phillipines, and Malaysia. Malaysia is my favorite Asian country. I am hoping the Philippines will be to my liking. Pros and cons here at Thai Visa so not sure.

The US debt and deficit are on a scary upward trajectory due to rising borrowing costs and burgeoning entitlement program payouts. The same is true for many other Western countries. If either the dollar devalues (think British pound post-Brexit) or entitlement programs are slashed, the incentive for moving overseas in order to lower living costs could disappear overnight.
Becoming an ex-pat for financial reasons becomes a rather dicey decision when you start pondering what the future might hold.
Kiddo's may have something to worry about. We will be dead before it get to bad.

Used to show my Thai DL and get in for Thai prices. Not no more!!! Know a few guys that live and speak fluent Thai that used to get in on Thai prices. Not no more..
What I did was pay and camp for a week or so. Made it a little less painful. But, I was birding the area usually. KK and Ko Yai really cracked down a few years ago. The smaller parks were not so bad.
Show me da money!

He added that Thailand cannot count on Chinese tourists to revive the local tourism scene, as he expects China would need more time to focus on addressing its internal problems.
Or anyone else for that matter.

Completely inacurate.
You obviously don't live there.Birded that area for years on and off. You are the one that is clueless. Saw it more times that I care to remember.
I would rent a place in Pai and then head up into the villages...
Hard to believe people actually live in that area and don't know what is going on.

So, should it be these US soldiers that should be executed or their superiors ?
That was interesting, thanks for sharing. I don't have first hand knowledge, but I have read the Indian states that border are ravaged with heroin additions.

I lived in that area on and off for years birding, and the checkpoints there were looking for meth for sure. Brings back a lot of fond memories. Camping at the police station at Doi Lang. Way before Doi san ju opened up.
Anybody remember those days???

A typical farang piece of <deleted>.
I was thinking the same thing about the Thai cops in Pai.

Pai was built on drugs supplied by the Hmong people, and in cahoots with the police.. They would grow and bring it in from Burma. 10-1 this guy was strung out.

In Thailand a mask and a oxygen tank would probably be the best way to visit.
Kills two birds with one stone.

Bangkok condominiums so people have fresh air to breathe.
