  1. Condolences to the family.

I am sure that her family doesn't need to hear that her name is being smeared all over the internet, so lets keep the conjecture to a minimum.

Curious I didn't see where her name was mentioned either. Maybe I'm going blind! :D :D

Or is it some thing more obvious? :o

  2. To my knowledge no restrictions on 60 day tourist visas are in place.

There are a couple consulates(in the UK and Australia) which issue a 1 year visa based simply upon request.

The crackdown is on the 30 days visa runners. Even before crackdown having an abundance of 30 day stamps in your passport was known to raise eyebrows at Thai embassies.

You could also marry a Thai woman but I think making a trip to Perth or wherever periodically would be less of a hassle

  3. I've made the trip several times. Takes about 9 hours to Bangkok. ChaAm(my usual stop) is also a nice place to stop to break up the trip.

To avoid accidently getting on the old windy road through the mountains (which can add a hour to the drive):

Out of Phuket follow the road toward Phangnga then hwy4 towards Krabi for a few miles and then left on hwy415 to SuratThani. After that it's a "super highway".

I recommend buying a Michelin road atlas for Thailand, available at most english bookstores.

Also note that petrol isn't available after midnight on that route. Though diesel is.

A nice side trip is on the way back take the road to Ranong from Chumphon and stay a night in one of the hot springs resorts. Chumphon also has a decent cheap hotel. I've heard the coastline around Chumphon is nice, I've been meaning to explore it.

The coast between Ranong and Takuapa has some very pretty beaches.

  4. Given the size you are talking about you will need about 2.3 cubic yards of concrete. That's a lot of mixing. Mixing concrete isn't a lot of fun IMHO! And it's difficult to achieve professional result mixing it in the above mentioned way.

You are going to need forms and wire mesh.

I would recommend talking to the local premixing company and see if you can arrange for a partial load from one of their trucks.

Here's how to calculate the volume of concrete you need

Another option is to rent (or buy and resell a small mixer)

Clean sand and gravel are essential ingredients.

  5. Hello,

We wish to employ a UK person in our engineering company.

    He is in Thailand now.

What documents must he take with him to apply for B visa so can arrange working permit.

    Thank You.

This is not something you typically do on your own. Since most the paperwork you need will be in Thai.

Your attorney should be able to put together the proper paperwork quite easily so he can go to KL or another royal thai embassy and get his initial 90 day b visa.

Once he has the b-visa your attorney can submit his WP paperwork. With WP in hand he can then return to KL and apply for the multiple entry one year b-visa.

Salary requirements seen to be changing and are different for different nationalities. The salary requirements are one of the primary prerequisites for the WP.

My experience is based on a small company where I am the only salaried employee. Larger companies may have slightly different procedures.

If your company has been in business more than a year you also may meet certain visa exemptions based on salary requirements.

Again your competent attorney will sort this out for you.

Since you are asking these questions here I suspect your attorney may be lacking or you're trying to pinch pennies in either case what you're proposing will be difficult.

  6. I respectfully suggest the problem is easier to resolve, by removing their jeans from the pool.

Those inconsiderate skinny dipping teenagers.....always leaving their clothes lying around. :o

Don't worry about Tornado he rarely misses an opportunity to jab GWB however inane. :D

  7. Nice new 3 br houses in Chalong, quiet safe neighborhood 18-20K.

15 minutes to Nai harn beach,

    10 minutes to Central.

    25 minutes to Patong.

Numerous nice restaurants, deli, and bakery within 5 minutes.

  8. I was just curious as to the route you chose thant all. No worries.

Airfare last year on Malaysia Air was around 7600 baht R/T from Phuket.

A four star hotel in KL runs about 250-300 ringit a night.

The train ride from the airport is 30 ringit

Taxi fare to the Pricess hotel 10 Ringit.

A can of Carlsberg special at the grocery store 4.8 ringit

Mutton Curry and rice 8 ringit.

  9. 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, single entrée, multi entrée, O, B, etc etc etc

2 years ago it was already difficult to understand; today it’s so un-understandable that even the embassy’s and consulates are lost! Even the immigration offices in Thailand are not responding everywhere the same!

Maybe it’s time for a reforming, one that’s simple to understand??

    What you think??

It all depends on what your needs are and what your qualifications are in regard to your needs.

    Maybe that's what's confusing you? :o

The visa rules themselves are all pretty cut and dried despite all the moaning and groaning going on.

Also if you approach Thailand with the attitude that they need to reform, I suspect you have the wrong attitude for Thailand. Try Malaysia they are much more welcoming.

Thailand the Land of xenophobia is not going to reform soon.

You either jump through the hoops with a smile on your face or go somewhere else. :D

  10. If you have the pension/income (65k per month) why not get on a discount airline to Penang/Kuala Lumpur/Singapore/Hanoi to obtain a visa. If lucky you can obtain a non immigrant O single entry to apply for retirement. If unlucky you can obtain a tourist visa. In either case you can then visit immigration with embassy letter/proof of pension and extend your stay for one year and have it taken care of.

This is the best advice. Avoid the 30 day stamper routine.

You can extend your 30 day VOA for 7 days if you are pressed for time now for 2000 baht.

It would also be a good idea to open a bank account here as soon as possible so when you go home it's simple matter for setting up money transfers.

  11. I went to the embassy the next day. The security guards at the gate hand out the results so the visa officers don't have to face the music when someone is denied.

    Incorrect...

if your visa request is denied you will be informed at the time of application as different fees apply to the different visas.

Also it advisable to arrive early. The gates of the embassy open at 9am. They open the doors of the visa office at 9:30. And the time zone in Malaysia is +1 hour.

  12. Oh my, what a nice polite person - we really need more folks like this to brighten our days.

So - YOU try phoning all the embassies like I did, and see what they say. If there's any CR-P being spouted here it's from the embassies, as all I'm doing is relating what they said to me.

    Rob

Do your research properly and you wouldn't be posting an alarmist thread like this.

Getting your information from embassy flunkies isn't proper research, sorry to inform you.

If you have a proper lawyer and proper paperwork and a valid WP you can get a 12 month b-visa, end of story.

There is way too much stupidity being wantonly flung about here. Don't ad to it!

  13. It very much looks like a 12 month Non Immigrant B visa has ceased to exist, except in the country of your origin.

Today I spent a small fortune phoning Thai embassies in Indonesia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. The story was the same throughout - 90 days only. None of them will issue a 12 month multiple entry Non Im B, even though I have all the papers, work permit and pay tax.

Oddly, the same theme kept cropping up - which I just can't understand. I asked - can you issue a 12 month Non Im B visa: answer - yes we can (from HK, Sg and Jakarta). Then I was asked - when does your work permit expire. I answered - in 2 weeks time, matched to my visa. They then said - oh, sorry, then we can only give you a three-month visa.

What on earth is the thinking behind this!

Is it now the Thai Government policy to refuse ANY visas of more than 3 months? (except for residents and retirees?)

I suppose that for most people it's no big deal to go half way across the world every 15 months just in order for them to be allowed to come back here and work again. But for me, it's simply not viable. What a pain!

    Rob

What a truckload of rumor mongering BS!!

My working associate just came back from KL with his one year(12 month!) b-visa. All his paper work and WP were in order. No drama and he isn't Malaysian!

Robbiesamui If you don't know what you're smoking out there but <deleted> if you don't know what you're talking about!

If what you claim was true we'd be hearing a lot more about it because it would really be a major shakeup for people who work for a living and businesses here.

  14. ^ If he can meet the requirements for salary then he meets the requirements for a proper WP.

I guess I don't understand all the nuance because I did it the proper way and didn't have any hitches getting the one year visa with the WP.

A pal of mine showed up in KL with all his paper work in order but forgot to bring the physical WP. They just gave him a 90 day B and told him to come back next time with his WP along with the paperwork.
