  1. For those on the other thread pertaining to Aldhouse and his innocence, or innocent until proven guilty, he sure made a concerted effort to get out of the Kingdom for an innocent man eh? An innocent man surely would not have gone to these lengths.

Also, wouldn't it be wonderful if such previous crimes could be included on peoples passports or some sort of biometric ID card and Thailand could kick out,/stop entrance of all the undesirables that give the clean, honest 'farang' a bad name? I mean the guy had a past record of armed robbery etc, not a petty crime in any country. It would make life living here so much better IMO and we would not be looked down on with scorn by many hi-ranking Thais.

  2. cos it's a forum for sharing views and opinions I guess.

Also real life experiences from some posters can be most valuable because as you know, Thailand is not as straight forward as black and white and does not always conform to what Google has in its answers.

  3. Have you thought about fitting an 85Amp leisure battery to the conversion to run your electrical appliances on and then fitting a small solar panel to the exterior roof to supply the leisure battery with a constant trickle charge? Very easy solution, same used in motorhomes, caravans etc.

  4. There's something very fishy about this story.

    Is it for reel?

If the OP is codding around, we have fallen for it - hook, line and sinker.

    Ok,Ok, I'll get my coat.

(BTW - Did NOBODY get my "shellfish" (i.e. - selfish) pun? at post #8) :(

Yes I got it but your puns just gave me a haddock.....

  5. I gave blood in my homeland for many years and always thought that it was worthwhile as you never know when you may need it yourself.

Could something be created on our profile page?

Although I'm not in CM, this would also be useful throughout Thailand, especially for those living in the sticks surely.

  6. Finally, our aircraft carrier can see some action like the US Marines. Did ours came equipped with Tom Cat, Cruise Missiles and Tom Cruise; like in Top gun? If our aircraft carrier don't have enough fire power, we can line up a row on broken Chinese tank (like the one thrown into the sea for corral last week), and shoot with it. I think the tank's gun is still operational.

Well how about the Piracy on Sukumvite and Pantip plaza? You would think they would crack down at home first before going after African pirates. Oh but the boys in brown are not making money out of the Somali deals, so guess that is wishful thinking.

Careful my friend, you'll get the PC brigade shouting "rascist" at you if you carry on with these kind of posts.....

  7. My business is all above board and doing very well. From day one we have paid the BiB on a monthly basis 300Bht to keep a lookout for our business and just basically ensure all is ok whenever they are passing on their regular patrols. They even have a little book that we keep and they sign it off every month they collect. I'm under the impression that this is the norm here as the book goes back quite some years and details all payments from past 2 Thai renters of the land we are now renting.

  8. A visa to enter Laos is required and the necessary paperwork for the application, this can be obtained at the Laos side of the border. The Laos visa costs 1500Bht and allows you to stay for up to 15 days, as I have a Non Imm O I always just go through the control and come straight back out again as soon as I can. You will need one passport sized photo for the Laos visa, however there are many touts who can also provide this service at the border, of course for a premium, or you can requste this from the Laos official who prepares your visa, cost of visa and photo is 1560Bht. Easy to get to the embassy in Vientiene, Laos side of border heaving with taxi drivers, the cheapest way to do it is to share a tuk tuk, costs about 150Bht and takes up to 30mins. If you take the G/F, ensure that she has her passport and she can get into Laos FOC and her visa will be processed at lightning speed, yours will take anything from 10mins upwards, (longest I have waited is 2 hours but they were very busy at the border that day). If she only has her ID card she will have to pay a fee for her visa too, but only a few hundred Baht. Speak to someone from the Laos side when you get there, they will point you in the right directions for all of the paperwork and which window to go to for what, don't get conned into taking an expensive taxi giving you a tour of Vientiene, imo, there really is bugger all of interest to see there but each to their own.

Sorry, cannot give any concise info of process at the Thai embassy has never had to do this, I do know however that if you are not their before midday, (they close for lunch), you can probably expect an overnight stay as they will not have your passport for collection until the following day.

    Hope this helps.

  9. Udon has many good bars and eating places to choose from, most very reasonably priced with friendly atmosphere.

BTW - Fuzzy Kens is still open, one of the cheapest in town, large Archa 40bht, large Leo 55bht, decent, (but simple food), a nice crowd of drinkers always willing to 'chew the fat'. However he's been doing a minor refurb of late so is closed today, (Saturday), and always closes on Sundays.

  10. Whilst they're at it, why don't they also ensure that all Thai drivers have a valid driving license, insurance and pay the road taxes, this would bring a vast amount of revenue into the government coffers.

I read somewhere on another site that in Udon Thani alone, they calculate that 40% of car and motorcycle users do not have a driving license, have never had a lesson, do not pay tax and do not have the correct documentation for the vehicle in their possession. It really is a crazy f**ked up, unregulated system here, however us 'farangs' have to dot the i's, cross the t's, jump through hoops and pay our cash to have a vehicle, (and often in the Thai partners name).

  11. If this is the case I would suggest that a vast number of Thai traders are guilty of the same. These goods can be seen at all markets, bazaars, emporiums, boutiques etc. throughout Thailand so there must be a hel_l of a lot of fines/court actions in the pending. With all of the cheap Chinese copies flooding the market, how can anyone keep a handle on everything. The difficulty in Thailand is actually buying genuine articles across the board from CD's, clothes, auto-parts, electrical goods and parts...virtually everything, and when you do find the real thing the costs are usually astronomical, far more than you would pay in the West which only encourages the purchaser to go for the cheaper option. We are all guilty but if this what stopped at source, i.e. the maufacturer of the 'hooky' product than this action would have more viability and would make a lot more common sense imo.
