I never had a pork-chop in Thailand that tasted like the real thing (in America). They tasted like pork, but without the unique taste that pork-chops have at home.

We get first dibs at their women.

No. We don't. We usually get the dregs when it comes to long-term relationships. Thais always laugh at us about picking "ugly women" and - in general - they have a point, but I would say "plain" is closer to the truth.

One thing I do not understand though is how everything is more expensive there in general, yet they have a weaker and poor economy / people. Rent, food, and general living seems to be more pricy

Laos has to import a lot of things from Thailand. They do not produce much themselves.

  4. I went a few years ago and it was good, but very out of the way. To me, Salsa Kitchen is in no way authentic, but still tastes good and reminiscent of American- style Mexican. Miguel's is my favorite In Chiang Mai  and as good as many little neighborhood places in Southern California.

btw when I was at makro I found light miso paste...in the cooler by the refrigerated noodles and the lum chin...I love miso and this was quite a find, I thought that it could only be found at falang places like foodland and villa in BKK...

dissolve a heaping tablespoon of the paste in a serving bowl with some hot water...then take yer mama noodles and discard the flavoring packet and add to the dissolved miso and add more hot water as needed, cover and let sit for about 5 - 10mins...et viola, miso soup with ramen noodles, garnish with whatever ye got and down the hatch...mmm, mmm gooood....

ever wonder about the pro biotic benefits from miso (fermented soy bean paste)? gonna havta check it out...

Lots of probiotic effects from miso. Use hot water but not boiling. Boiling with kill the good bacteria. Also, some Japanese doctors claim they were spared radiation poisoning for the first two A-bombs because the iodine in miso blocked the radiation from reaching the liver.

I'm looking forward to a time when someone posts a photo of his beloved, only to have her recognized by multiple TV members.

Can't remember his last name, but a bald guy named Ian from Canada used to post pictures of his tilacs on TV. I knew ever single one - intimately.  ?

Swensen's has something resembling a milk shake, but it may not satisfy your yearning for the ones you remember.

On the positive side, no other franchise has cuter waitresses - Fact!

    (IMHO)

SWENSON'S vanilla milk shakes are excellent - real ice cream would be the only difference one might notice.

  8. I have a Thai friend who visits the US about once a year. She says there are good Thai restaurants in America, but they are far and few between. She loves one in particular in San Francisco, but I am not going to pay a fortune to eat Thai food her, so I've never asked the name. I like some Thai food OK, but have never been crazy about it.

It’s a little odd. I love sausage, and I generally enjoy Mexican food, but I’ve had chorizo any number of times in the US and all over Baja and and I just don’t see the attraction. Plenty of people love it. I’ll eat it if I’m hungry.

I don’t get the whole menudo thing either...

Still haven't tried menudo, but am with you on the rest - exactly my experience.

When people complain about the driving in Thailand, I always think they haven't actually travelled that much.

Been in the middle east for six years, and inshallah another six more, but I'm always pleasantly surprised by how nice it is to drive in Thailand. The lack of horns, people let you in, slower speeds, greater politeness, I could go on....

Anyways, if you can't handle dining driving in Thailand, stay away from Egypt or Saudi, LOL.

It is WAY worse in Vietnam too - at least it was 20 years ago when I lived there.
