A nothing post is when you say look over there at obesity. Although it is another manifestation of human stupidity.

Argument ad hominem is all trolls have got when they have no facts.

According to the attached link, more than 61,000 people died from heat-related causes in Europe alone, in 2022.

    https://www.preventionweb.net/news/risk-heat-related-deaths-has-increased-rapidly-over-past-20-years

How about you post your link to the 12,000 Climate-related deaths you are claiming.

"According to the attached link, more than 61,000 people died from heat-related causes in Europe alone, in 2022."

Not surprising when most of the 'heat' related causes were due to the lack of gas to heat the houses. That was about the time Gazprom collapsed I believe?

I'm sorry but I can't discuss this topic with you. I was trying to be helpful by giving you a link and now I find myself on the receiving end of a lecture about the objectives of the media, lessons in pseudo science and how an excess of coke cans is displacing seawater!  Please, just leave it there between us.

Well, you didn't answer the question as to how you would know I didn't read the article. Or was that just an assumption? Which would let you off the hook.

There is a case to be made that solar cycles affect weather on earth, but the cycles are fairly consistent over that 11 year period with solar energy deviating by about 0.1 percent from peak to trough.

This would not explain continually rising temperature over a longer stretch of time.

Then there are the Milankovitch cycles that don't seem to fit the rapid rise in global temperatures.

    https://science.nasa.gov/science-research/earth-science/why-milankovitch-orbital-cycles-cant-explain-earths-current-warming/

Until a different external effect can be identified, we are left with finding an earthbound driver of increasing temperatures. So far, it seems that the scientific consensus is an increase CO2 in the atmosphere.

If extreme CO2 is the cause of the temperatures rising, why are the not more trees and plants which thrive on CO2? Also, if CO2 is the problem, why is the global population increasing, when high concentrations of CO2 would be deadly to all animal life?

Yes, global warming everyone should go buy an electric car and stop eating meat.

As to electric cars, not at the price of a replacement battery thanks. Stop eating meat and we will be over run with cows, pigs, chicken and other edible animals. Cut down on the population and we may have a chance.

You asked for evidence of rising seas and I gave you an article to read. Presumably you're not really interested in that evidence, otherwise you would have read the article I gave you and said thank you, alternatively you would have searched yourself for more news but from a journal that better agrees with you. Oh well.

You suggest I didn't read the item. How would you know I didn't? The article was a link to a 'news paper', how is that evidence? Most, if not all 'news papers' print what will sell, and global warming is all the rage at the present time. Thailand is experiencing high temperatures at present, as is much of S.E.A. Much of Europe is having extremes of hot and cold weather at this time, it is not unusual in both instances. The sun has had extremes of plasma ejections recently, could that not have an impact on the earths climate? And the main reason, if any sea level increases would be so much rubbish being dumped into it. Multi-million tons of rubbish displaces multi-million tons of water, or is that a fallacy? And as stated earlier, the Maldives are still there.

Humans caused Climate Change, and only humans can mitigate it. We have passed the "tipping point", Climate Change will continue to get worse. Vast populations will be displaced, partly due to rising sea levels, and as those people seek new lands to live on there will be conflicts and wars. Now is a good time to focus on mitigating this looming catastrophe, mainly by avoiding petroleum energy. Green energy industry will provide many jobs and a better environment. Fossil fuel corporate interests will dispute this and supply much obfuscating propaganda to encourage doubt. China is largest contributor to greenhouse gases, followed by USA, EU, and Russia, in that order.

Where is the sea rising? I would find the answer very interesting, as where I used to live in the UK is a seaside town. The sea levels are the same at high and low tide as they were 70 years ago. A webcam shows the high and low water mark on the habour wall, and the only slight change is due to the phase of the moon. Webcams all along the promenade give the same 24h picture so, where is the sea rising? Oh, and the Maldives haven't sunk yet!

    Dear Folks,

I have always wished I might have been famous in my life, just once.

    And, why is this?

I wish I might have been famous enough, like David Bowie, to appear on Soul Train, just once.

    What is your Fame Fantasy?

Do you dare to tell, here on this Famous Forum?

    Why not?

Are you not anonymous here on TV?

If I had been granted my wish, when I was younger, and even now, I would have opted to do this:

Some Psychiatrists will tell you that an obsession with becoming famous is maladaptive.

    Do you believe this?

    I do not.

I believe that it is not too late for me to be famous.

I just need to get lucky.

So, anyway, here is what some researchers say about our need and fascination and, almost constant daydreaming, with becoming famous.  And, also, I would like to know why our newest generations, now yet to become adults, are even more fixated upon becoming famous than I ever was of appearing on Soul Train.  (Soul Train?  Me and my buddies watched Soul Train religiously, every afternoon, when we were teens. Great show!)

Somedays, as I say, I worry my daydreams of fame might become troublesome for me or others....(like this guy worries, too, I guess):

    image.png.a1a603240d790e9edbb3ae0f8aca5f66.png

And, Billy Graham, who was so famous, and whose son I attended school with, probably would tell us that it is wrong to wish to be famous:

    image.png.b775abe6285d1a1fbae61a3f441778f9.png

And, here is BETTY who is having problems with her FAME-Fantasy:

    image.png.6a44807f4142bcf593b0f648463f96e0.png

But for a more SCIENTIFIC Analysis, then you would want to read articles like this one.  And, I am sure that I am NO Narcissist, Believe Me!:

    image.png.483d5f948d597a1531ab49e09d0cafb9.png

    So I ask you:

How much would you give to be famous.

And, if you were famous, or if you were a famous author, or a famous footballer, or a famous politician,...

How would your fame change your life, and...

What would you do with your fame, besides improving our world?

Would you have no one but girls around you, 24/7?

    I know that I would.

I would drive a Bentley, with girls sitting to the left and to the right of me.

And, the driver would be a girl.

And all the girls would be Thai.

I would not wish to become a famous author.

And, if I were a famous author, then I would not really be famous.

    I would use a pseudonym.

And, I would write under the pen name: Oliver Twist, being, in real life, rather twisted.

How do you deal with your fantasies?

Is there any hope for you, do you think?

    Regards,

    Gamma

Note to Self: Becoming Famous, later in life, will not be so easy as it might have been when one was young.

I am not talking about transaction fees, I am talking about the capital investment for the equipment required to accept a no-contact payment, at say a Home Depot or Walmart or some-such in the west.

Does the bank provide everything free of charge to the vendor?

It would help if you were to THINK before typing, then perhaps people would understand what you are trying to convey.

  9. 3 hours ago, it is what it is said:

back on the uk for a visit, contactless payment is so quick and easy, don't understand why thailand has implemented the faffy QR system when a much more efficient and effective payment system is available.

Some shops do have contact card payment in Thailand, I was quite surprised the first time I saw it available, although it was a UNICLO shop.

Old folk seem to be worried about anything and everything new, my parents never used an ATM, fearing them

You are making a mistake by tarring 'OLD' people with the same brush. I happen to be 4 score years and counting, doesn't mean I am beyond learning. QR codes were a challenge, but I mastered it within a few goes, now its second nature. As to 'anything and everything new, I've seen many, many new things in my life time, and hope to see many more.

  11. There is one major problem with these petitions. They are never debated in parliament, but in Westminster hall. A notice is posted of the date and time, then those who feel they have the time to attend, do so. The petition is put to a vote, but 9 times out of ten it is refused. Even in the rare event of a petition passing a vote, it then goes to the leader of the house. However, S/he is advised there are more pressing matters to attend to. It is then decided there is not enough parliamentary time and is quietly forgotten about.

So the guns are in the car !

Geez you wouldn't want to do that in Australia, they would jump in and take off with the car !

I don't know about you but if your a cop attending a domestic and the offender  pulls a knife , I'm not going out to the car to get the gun

Australia is a world away from the UK, and although your scenario is possible it is quite rare. Although from what I read in the UK news, it is getting worse. The reason for that? Who knows, but lack of discipline from an early age is a good instance.
