  1. Totally agree, spot on. Both my grandsons are in the property business as I was myself briefly some years ago and standards are very different here. Certain groups and nationalities have a very bad reputation as tenants and the stress it is likely to cause you would simply not be worth it. Do not buy but shop around for a rental you can live with, there is lots of choice and it would be a lot cheaper cheaper. You can always put in store your favorite stuff to dec out your place to your taste. I think that the Thai property market is heading for a 2008 US type disaster. And all of this before you even get into the business of neighbours.
  2. I would appreciate personal recommendations for a dentist in Chiang Mai who specializes in replacing a Maryland or Butterfly bridge. Thanks in advance.
  3. I should be grateful to know of an electric gate motor mechanic in Chiang Mai. Many thanks.
  4. Can farangs use some other photo i/d like UK driving licence, other than passport at airport check-in for domestic flights ?
  5. A visa agent in Pattaya is processing a first retirement visa application for me and told me it would be for fifteen months, three for the initial non-imm O plus the twelve month extension for retirement. Last week we submitted all the forms to the immigration office including my passport. The agent said that my passport would be returned in a week, presumably with the non-imm O approved and an “under consideration stamp” for the retirement. This was my understanding of the procedure from the experience of others. However, today the agent is saying that it will be sixty days before my passport is returned with the fifteen months total and in the meantime the copy of my passort which I have shows my tourist visa expiring on 25th January. Would appreciate any advice.

  7. Well, it has all been said really - what price progress ? In the case of Thailand's Evisa system, the answer is total chaos. After giving up in despair attempting from London, I even looked at flying to Vientiane and applying from there with the good old pencil and paper method. In the end, I just came in on a 45 + 30 visa-exempt which is only 15 days less anyway. Is Thailand really trying to revive its tourist industry or is it being sabotaged by the Goblins of North Korea or somewhere ? Biting hand, killing goose and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Welcome back to LOS, I love it all really.
  8. The Fiesta was the UK's favourite car for many years and yet it seems to have something of a poor reputation here in Thailand. I wonder if it was all Fiestas or just certain years/models that were not good but certainly by comparison with other similar cars they are quite a bit cheaper second-hand. I am also wondering if the same is true of the Focus. I should be grateful to know the story behind all of this from anyone who knows.
  9. It is as good as it should always have been but never was. And indeed the only good of it would be to be rid of it along with re-entry visas and the Evisa application for a 60-day tourist visa. Now there is a true nightmare if ever there was. But let us not forget that for bureaucrats worldwide their ambition is to make other people's lives as difficult as possible and some are much more successful than others.
  10. I have had a similar experience with Wise and BBL. I can send two consecutive B50k and it's seconds for both but try one at B100k and it can take days,
  11. Has anyone done this border bounce since Flexomike did it in mid-September when all seemed plain sailing ? The phone number on Google Maps for the Thai side immigration is not working. If anyone has a working one I would be grateful. I believe that there is a Thai lady who takes care of the whole thing on both sides including the Cambodian visa for a reasonable fee. I am due to go on Saturday 12th and would greatly appreciate any up-to-date info. Many thanks.
