  1. Thanks Dutch,

    I just checked their prices

almost 75,000 baht !  :o  not including 200 bt. a day for insurance

    OUCH !!

Thats a good down payment on my own truck.

Can a farang own a truck in his name ??

How long do you plan to rent the vehicle? Are you sure you heard right?

My sister-inlaw rented a car once and im sure it was under 2000 Bt per day.

  2. I don't know if that is such a good idea.  Some would leave the forum or stay while posting to themselves only.  Polo or Erco come to mind.

Isn't this a collection of thoughts and ideas that bring us together?

Imagine having a conversation with someone and that person just ignores you.  Kind of  disrespectful and it would cause many to just walk away.  Heck they may even block me.  The I would have to change identity, avatar and start all over again.

Polo and Erco. Very similar warped minds :o

dr pat, did sweet mango slip your mind? :D

  3. Iwas wondering what happened to tutsiwarrior also, he's one of the more witty posters in here. I was thinking of asking the same question in GENERAL TOPICS.

As for going off topic, when did that stop anybody from posting in here.

I would say nearly 1/3 of posts go off topic.

Maybe the moderators need to change GENERAL TOPICS to OFF TOPICS. :o

  4. My GF is an ex BG. She shows me more love and dedication than any UK girl i have ever been with. She never asks for anything, and she's not bothered if when we eventually live together we live in the uk. I'm not rich, far from it in debt up to my eyeballs to be precise. (She knows all this). All she wants is for us to be together all of the time. Is this LOVE? :o

For a real eye opener go to www.mangosauce.com and scroll down to relationships/ she comes home to me.

  5. Bina, in response to your question, one time while at a temple where my brother -inlawwas a monk, one of the other monks asked me if I loved God.

So, at least this particular monk recocnizes God as a single deity.

As for the original question to this post, doesn't the story of Ramakian answer the question of good and bad spirits in Buddhisim?

  6. I think the old saying " actions speak louder than words " applies more to thai girls, perhaps all of asia, here.

Ihave no experience with thai girls other than my wife so maybe i'm not qualified to answer your question.

With my wife though, she sees i take good care of her and our children, and when her mother or siblings need help, they are taken care of also.

This goes farther to let my wife know I love her more than whispering sweet nothings in her ear.

  7. The other thread got closed!

So I simply ask a question.

Do you think you (falang), like thais, more than they like you?

    Honestly.

And with good reason. What purpose does a thread such as this serve other than to open the door to post anti Thai garbage?

I have to agree with dr. pat pong, there has been entirely too much of that going on here already.

Do brits like aussies more than aussies like brits? Do americans like canadians more than canadians like americans ?

Why even ask such an absurd question?

We should all try and achieve a level of mutual respect and admiration.

I don't entirely agree with the comment "anti Thai garbage" as many of the posts that are/have been made, that are critical of Thai ways are very relevent and are not just anti Thai garbage.

If a subscriber has a view and states it why should it be described as garbage, if it is an accurate assessment of some of the things here in the realm.

And to "achieve a level of mutual respect and admiration" there must be something to admire and therefore respect.

Admittedly there are many things to admire and respect in Thailand however that does not mean that there are not also many things that people find to be at the very least, something that would difficult to respect much less admire.

There are some 200 countries in this small world of ours and each has it's own idiosyncrasy's.

To be able to make comparisons between the various countries and their people, one must first have spent a reasonable period of time in the countries that are being compared.

And that is not possible by just visiting for a 10-14 stay.

i.e. you will go a long way to meet more genuine people that are to be found in the caucasus region.

They too have suffered particularly since the fall of the Soviet Union however they have maintained (generally speaking) their honest and hard working ethics.

And as far as hospitality is concerned they are without equal.

Personally I find many things in Thailand that I can be critical of, additionally there are many things I like. consequently after doing the checks/balances and weighing up the pros & cons, I am not about top leave anytime soon.

Finally if there are some who see only the positives and cannot recognise the negatives it would suggest that they are wearing rose tinted spectacles.

Whilst it would be very nice to go through life seeing only the the good, at the end of the day thats not the way it is.

    "life just aint like that"

I was refering to posters such as " sweet mango " who come in here and express such anti Thai views as to get themselves banned, not constructive criticisims.

I assure you I don't wear rose colored glasses, but why constantly bitch about something you cannot change?

  9. Very interesting thread, Bluecat,

I think the ability to adapt to Thailand depends on where you are located and how long you plan to stay.

Probably the most important trait a person needs to adapt is a willingness to learn about the country and it's customs and language if they're planning to stay for any length of time.

As for my own experience adapting to Thailand, it was relatively easy due to the fact I live in a small village 35 kms from Korat.

Perhaps it would have been more difficult if i lived in a big city.

One things for sure though, if I hadn't taken the time to know a little about LOS before I came, adapting would have been more difficult.
