  1. Not sure if I am reading the OP right, but I was led to believe that visa exemptions or visa on arrival were only granted when entering Thailand by air, not at land border crossings.

If I am right, the OP states that he had a visa exemption, probably upon his last arrival by air. He then left the country for Cambodia, meaning the visa he had was used and no longer valid. If I am right (and I am not sure that I am) it would appear that he is now trying to cross a land border without a valid visa.

15 days exempt over land, 30 by air.

  2. I said they can't ALL be ignorant and stupid.

The only thing common is the minds ability to percieve, imagine or trust something for which there is no verified evidence......

Bashing Astrology is the same as bashing anyone who believes in something that you don't, regardless of proof.

I do guarantee that all of those who came on here and said one liner *this hocus pocus is BS* blah blah......have some dubious beliefs of their own.

"I do guarantee that all of those who came on here and said one liner *this hocus pocus is BS* blah blah......have some dubious beliefs of their own."

So tell me how to these "dubious beliefs" mitigate the obvious fact that astrology is bunkum in anyway whatsoever?

All your post does is emphasise the paucity of thought, lack of critical thinking that is typical of people who believe there is "something in" astrology.

"regardless of proof" - comeon even you admit their is NO EVEIDENCE at all to support but a wealth of human knowledge that prooves it is bunkum.

I never said I believe in Astrology.

I do, for the sake of this conversation, sincerely believe there are quite a few things the human race does not yet understand, call me stupid if you like.....

No but you are using non-rational thinking - you proposal that as there are things we don't understand they might or must be B or C is a fallacious argument.

In fact the proposed "mechanisms for astrology - the "inlfuence of the planets" is pretty much a non-starter so any further conclusions from that premise are flawed from the start....and no! they won't ever be proved right.

I never made that argument/ proposal!

As far as 'things we don't understand', can you then try and explain the following?

    Entropy

    Parallel Universe

    String theory

    Navier-Stokes equation

    Dark matter

Lord Kelvin proclaimed in 1900 that 'there was nothing new to be discovered in Physics, just more precise measurement" so if you ask me, there are also wild guesses in Science.

The human brain isn't limited to cognitive action.

  3. As has been pointed out, the percentage of the worlds population that have some belief of either religion, the occult, myths, legends or astrology......is enormous.
Appeal to popularity. Just because a lot of people believe is something silly, does not make it any less silly. Alternately stated, a statement's truth value has absolutely no bearing on the number of people who believe it (in the absence of solid evidence) to be true. Some level of proof must be presented. Further, the greater and more incredible the claim, the more compelling the evidence must be to support it.
Can't all be ignorant and stupid.
Why not? There is a huge number of uneducated and minimally educated people on this planet.

And you've actually undermined your own premise by saying that there is a huge number of people who believe in some religion. According to the The World Factbook there are: 2.2 billion Christians and 1.7 billion Muslims in the world (2013 est.). I hope you'll agree that certainly both religions can't be the one true region. So that means there are either 2.2 billion wrong Christians or 1.7 billion wrong Muslims in the world, with about 3 billion other wrong people believing other assorted "wrong" religions.

That's a whole lot of ignorant and stupid people (to use your words).

I said they can't ALL be ignorant and stupid.

    This hocus pocus is BS.

    Now name my dubious beliefs.

I'm not a mind reader, however I need a little to work with.....(before I post a very long list of popular phenomena) so can l ask you to do something?

Think about a nice setting....close your eyes and relax, try and visualize images and then noises from your memories. Tap the fingers of your left hand, from right to left and then back, in succession, three times. Count backwards from 100 in 7's, then pinch yourself.

Congratulations, you've just activated most of your brain.

Now, use it....and try more than a sentence next time.

  6. Your future is not predetermined. A good astrologer, who does a full chart on you, can tell what the influences are and what to look for. Generalized advice for everyone born that month is way down on usefulness.

"A good astrologer, who does a full chart on you, can tell what the influences are and what to look for" - no they can't

What mechanism do people believe exists in order for this system to work?

The mechanism of trying to comprehend that which you can't fully understand. The mind is complex.

As has been pointed out, the percentage of the worlds population that have some belief of either religion, the occult, myths, legends or astrology......is enormous. Can't all be ignorant and stupid.

I had an argument with a bunch a while back about the infamous 6th sense.....commonly percieved as a sense of communication with the occult but widely accepted as being a sense of balance. I could not explain the association with a sense so easily, they also couldn't quite grasp.

There's a great song called *superunknown*

If this isn't what you see, doesn't make you blind.

If this isn't making sense, doesn't make it lies.

If this doesn't make you smile, you don't have to cry.

If you don't want to believe, you don't have to try.

  7. This has been one of the more fun TV threads, in my opinion.

I found my own personal fortune teller (OK, he wasn't an astrologer) in his Sky-office, back in 2010. Well, he found me on a Chiang Mai footpath, but same difference. He was amazed when I told him my age - he turned out to be exactly the same age as me ! I was amazed, too! We were both amazed! I realised then that he was a fantastic guy, that fate had somehow pushed him in my way, and that I should listen very, very carefully to whatever important messages he had for me. He went on to tell me I'd live until I'm 89. Works for me! I've gone on to live my life with that reassurance ever since and believe me, it's a great feeling.

    Definitely worth 100 Baht.

    Mathematical fact:

In a room of just 23 people there's a 50-50 chance of two people having the same birthday. In a room of 75 there's a 99.9%chance of two people matching.

Still amazed you were born the same year? Are yah...really??

    I think he was joking...........

Just looking at your figures there, I've only ever met two people in my whole life who share the same birthday as me.....

PS: Are you also a Taurus?

  8. give me the winning lottery numbers then I'll believe in Astrology ...

as for the planets ... I only know uranus giggle.gif

Fruitcake central now at TV, man didnt walk on the moon but astrology is real.............blink.png

Odd how every time a topic on anything deemed esoteric is raised on here the overwhelming majority just can't seemed to resist repeatedly posting their usually ignorant, views debunking said topic. Anyone would think they really needed to reaffirm their uninformed position/stance. There's no other explanation for their not simply thinking 'oh this topic doesn't interest me' and going on to something else coffee1.gif Is there.

Why would you think this topic is not interesting to skeptics and critical thinkers? Why do you label the views of skeptics to be ignorant? Wooist thinking is fascinating not so much in what is believed but how and why people are able to believe in things to which there is no evidence, been tested, evaluated and found to have no merit.

    Like any religious deity......

  9. Lets spin the following question to the OP whats your reasoning for doing this ?

Do you already run a sucesssful chain of restaurants in Aussie and wish to expand into Thailand ?

Or is this just another variation on the classic cliche of buying a bar ?

I am thinking of opening up a healthy restaurant/cafe with a nutrition friend of mine. I would like it to be in Phuket close to the where westerners go for bootcamp/physical training. We both have run businesses before. I love thailand - I love the climate/people and way of life. We don't want to be millionaires but want to make enough to cover our costs and live comfortably.

Make sure you bring enough money to cover those aspirations..........but sorry to be pessimistic, if your intention isn't to make much money then why waste so much trying?

Anyway, the way things are going you'd be better off trying to set up a magii noodle stall to cater for the influx of Chinese!

    I'm being serious.

  10. If you're gonna buy property you should go and see for yourself & make sure everything is in your name at least. Target rentals for small studio's would be the local workforce.

You would also have to prove the money came from outside LoS, I'm assuming it did at one point, shouldn't be hard to get the paperwork from your receiving bank.

If you're not in Thailand, why would you consider losing your money there?

  11. I almost did this last year, had a career mid-life crisis and thought sh@g it why not, leave my investment property at home and start a new slate with 10Million baht.

I had some sketchy ideas for hitting BKK, the priority was to build up a passive income of 60k and live in my condo. This involved buying a number of studio units to rent out (5 Million for 5 decent units with a rental of 5k each per month - I even knew which units). I was also developing a business idea among some friends, the details I will not bore you with, which was going to squeeze 2 Million out of my kitty and target was to get it off the ground within a year.

1 million to live off for the first year and 2 million to fall back on. I always thought if it went t1ts up I could just sell the units and considered losing my @ss on the business, worst I could come out of it with 7 million. Then I thought, why would I invest 10 million to waste my time sweating and struggling just to lose 30%, why not just go there with the same 3 mil and enjoy the time off..........

Sense prevailed as nothing beats a secure paycheck, Thailand is still there for holidays and my moneys there for making safe investments elsewhere.

  12. Don't worry. You are 22 and she is 18. The comments about prostitution, ripoffs and all that nasty stuff do not apply to you. Your relationship is no different that what any other young person can or will experience. In the west, young people go to bars to hookup and have quickies. The situation you experienced isn't that much different. The girl probably is happy she has met someone "normal" who is different than the usual loser she comes across. If you have the following characteristics, you most likely are appealing to the typical 18 year old girl's lust;

    - The hair is on your head and not your back or arse;

    - You can maintain a very firm erection without need of viagra or other drugs, and can copulate multiple times;

    - You do not snore

    - You have some fashion sense and do not look like those elderly twits with their fat guts in too tight shirts and varicose vein revealing capri pants.

    - Your idea of fun is something more than getting drunk and smoking too many cigarettes

    - If you go to a dance club, you can actually dance

    - When you are together, it looks normal and not like some girl taking a customer out for a quickie or a nurse with her patient

    - You have a decent body and your fat belly does not hide your feet or penis

    - You do not need to trim your nose or ear hair

    - You do not have ill fitting dentures or rotten teeth and bad breath

    - You don't complain about everything, especially how dumb Thais are, or that the food is too spicey or your ex wife, or how your kids hate you, and you don't ridicule everyone you see such as ladyboys, homos, asians, Thai customs etc.

    - If you go to the beach or a pool, people will look at you because you are cute and not because you are a fat old man in a thong

    - If you have a healthy relationship with your parents/family and actually call them or send them emails.

    - You know how to use a smart phone, have a vine or twitter/or snap chat or FB account

I am replying to this post to give it a bump, as it is one of the Best replies I read so far.

I have being very happy with my Thai wife for many years now.If I have any regret, it is that I did not meet her earlier in my life.

"Relax. Have fun. Use a condom. Keep in touch with your family. Play safe,be polite and respectful. Use common sense. Avoid druggies, drinking and driving. Smile a lot. Stay calm and you will be fine."

Wise words worth repeating!!!!! clap2.gif clap2.gif

lol..........yeah wise words indeed, except missing one critical piece of advice.....

Skip chasing females around, do not pass go, do not collect your 200 quid, go straight to the nearest bar and get hitched

I would ask you forget that this lady works in a bar, even that she is Thai, for a minute...........are you trying to tell this lad that he should proceed with a marriage (to anyone) after just 4 days ???

By the way, a bit of context here.............it's OP first rodeo, he made earlier inquiries about getting into SIAM on a marriage visa, looks like that didn't work out either..........

    who said anything about marriage?

being a bar girl has nothing to do with it, plenty of good bar girls I am sure, especially since the girl is only 18 and has not being long in the industry,

The Thai [art I don't understand, my wife is Thai ans is the best thing that happen to me.

""Relax. Have fun. Use a condom. Keep in touch with your family.,be polite and respectful. Use common sense. Avoid druggies, drinking and driving. Smile a lot. Stay calm and you will be fine."

Relax: means take you time dont rush in to anything. I would hope yo agree with that.

Have Fun: good advise to a 23 year old. Do you have any problems with that?

Use a condom: Sage advise, wont you agree?

Keep in touch with your family: nobody will ever love him like his parents do.

be polite and respectful:we all could stand some of that

Use common sense: something that's becoming quite uncommon

Avoid druggies, drinking and driving:not only is it illegal, it is unsafe in so many levels

Smile a lot:a smile is the cheapest investment with the highest return.

Stay calm:advise we can all benefit from.smile.png

Feel free to ad to this list anything you feel is not covered

Hopelessly in love with my Thai wife, married for seven years now and being together for over ten.biggrin.png

I didn't ask for explanation....I did say it was all sound advice......except.....

Read the op again....He is being brought to meet the folks. As you are well aware being married to a Thai woman yourself, this introduction usually carries a bit more weight than it does in the west.
