  1. The Homepro next to the Big C on Ratchada have great deals on mattresses. Slumberland, Sealy, Dunlopillo etc. I picked up a king size Slumberland for my spare bedroom and with the discount and a Homepro member card it came in at just under 10k. Apart from their normal display they often have the best discount ones on display as just behind the tills as you leave.

Is it the first time you have done a report there since the office has only been open a short period of time.

Perhaps they don't have any records since your were reporting to the KK office before.

A heads up for anybody posting their 90 day reports to KK they won't accept postal notifications any more as I discovered earlier this week when I did my annual extension. Mentioned that I hadn't received my latest notification after submitting it a month ago and that's what the officer told me. At least they didn't fine me just had me fill out a new 90 day form and processed it there and then.

As you note, thanks to the Mongolian development work the STGCGF procedure is much safer now. Most early accidents were through human error - the upright diagonal bushing slots were sized incorrectly, due to a mathematical error. They should have multiplied the coefficient of dangular rising amplitude by Threakstons constant, but they omitted this step in the calculation.

The procedure was later documented correctly by consultants - Messrs Bull and Excretaski if I remember correctly.

The consummate professionalism of Messrs Bull and Excretaski cannot be denied and their documentation was required reading and used as a prime example of an assemblage of testiculartory appendages during my studies into the "Influence of davit and derrick dismantling and deconstruction on government projects in Bobo Dioulasso from January 1957 to February 1958"  under the late Professor Hilberg at the University of Ougadougou. A man still missed to this day for his legendary insights and witty anecdotes  regarding the development of the windlass in Upper Volta.

I'm glad that someone has brought some new insight to our technical discussion. Sky-to-ground contra-gravitational formwork is not yet a mainstream method but it is gaining popularity on account of lower capital cost.

Indeed as you quite rightly stated it's gaining popularity at an unprecedented rate and may one day overtake the traditional but quite frankly outdated ITCP initial terra commencement point method so beloved of 100% of construction companies. Although I heard from a reliable source that the Mongolians had  made great progress in the field of STGCGF until the mortality rate of the individuals who were fortunate enough to be involved in this exciting new development  reached levels that were considered unacceptable to the advisors to the Mongolian government responsible for observing  and reporting on any massive erections they came across.

Coincidentally, I was involved with that project - but that was long before the introduction of dome valves. Back then, the axial supporting lateral beams were stabilised using a quadruple set of two-way frictionless jacking braces.

Yes but the pertinent question regarding this method is once you'd stabiized the axial supporting lateral beams how do you avoid the Smithson strut becoming detached from the main load bearing coaxial pivot drive shaft? I'm sure you recall that during the construction of the Vladimir Konstantin Memorial Stadium in Odessa the main contractor used a 10 cm rotating spigot as opposed to a 10.5 cm one and any industrial engineer worth his salt knows what happened there. That's the very reason why the Somalian Health and Safety Executive now dictate that any building being constructed which is taller than 100 metres must use a crane fitted with a counter balancing immobilising  turbine system as opposed to the industry-wide turbine immobilising balancing counter system.

Are these overhead dome valves a recent innovation or have they been around for a long time. It would appear to me that they are probably used when the giggle pin starts to wear or become too flexible or the laughing shaft gets worn.

Just trying to keep with modern changes can be difficult at my age.

I believe they were first used in the construction of the 500,000 capacity Enormodome in Rio for the 2003 Synchronised Felching Games

You are not keeping up with the times. The 2016 health and safety directive mandated that overhead dome valves be replaced by half-round triangular ball joint cam trunnion knockers, kept in alignment by down shaft taper shims. This new rule was due to excessive slippage in the dome valve hexagonal drive dollies.

At last! Somebody who actually knows what they are talking about. Tell me were you involved in the construction of the Wang King Tower 101 in Taipei?

A totally absurd post, people who know about these things will tell you that overhead dome valves replaced laughing shafts years ago.

A constant theme running through TVF is the amount of posters who write about something they clearly are not au fait with.

If you use an overhead dome valves ( the sheer absurdity of such a suggestion is mind boggling) simple physics will tell you this will have an adverse effect on the crane's counter balance flange inducing grommet causing the structural integrity of the rotary pivot to decline which in turn will cause a complete failure of the prime crankshaft turbine blade.

After many years of research propping up the bar at a Pattaya dump of a bar with 99 baht full English breakfasts and Happy Hour all Leos 50 baht the correct method is to uncoupled the rear ailerons first before turning the main c-section cross member and lowering the entire apparatus by way of a Hodgkin's binary lift or similar.

By the way I'm also an expert in air accident and crime scene investigations if anybody needs a hand.

but  just how does that relate to the universe in  a quantam way?

Talking about that I never really liked that sci  fi series " Quantum Leap" but my granddad loved it. He also preferred a ham and cheese sarnie on white bread whereas I always went for whole meal. What is it about the price of cheese in LOS? A complete rip off. Talking about being ripped off I once bought a Ford Granada that had been clocked. Did I mention that clocked is also English slang for seeing something as in " Did you clock that drunk bloke at Pete's birthday party?"

  10. It's definitely worth checking the hotel's own website as sometimes there are some good deals to be had. A number of properties are offering book direct deals to avoid paying commision to the OTAs etc. One property I know of were offering up to 40% discount room only by booking direct which well undercut the price elsewhere and another was offering free airport transfer, 5 pieces of laundry and complimentary mini bar by booking direct. Of course always check the conditions because when I worked in the industry a number of guests thought the special Early Bird price conditions of no cancellations, amendments or refunds didn't apply to them with one guy threatening to inform the police of the hotel's "scam" when he wanted to cancel but couldn't. That's why you got a THB 4000 room for THB 2500 brainiac. You takes the risk...

  11. The service charge goes to the owner who normally uses it towards staff wages.

If the tip is left with the bill folder or on table then it normally goes into collective box to be divided between staff and usually the management takes a cut of up to 20%.

I prefer to tip the staff directly but sometimes they put this in the the collective box.

I once asked staff about what happened to the service charge and tips & was told that some customers before ordering state that they would not be paying the service charge and the manager waives it.

Service charges in a larger establishments like a 5 star hotel for example will often be divided between all of the staff who work there. It's paid in addition to their salary on a monthly basis. We're talking about large chain type hotels here. Everything has the ++ type of system where there's a 10% service charge + VAT.

From what I've heard everyone gets their share from the managers right down to the cleaners.

Yes the service charge is calculated and divided equally between all staff including the non operation departments such as finance, HR etc. Every hotel I ever worked for in LOS posted the monthly service charge on the staff notice board and had a guaranteed minimum service charge every month. One of the major considerations when staff applied for a job in a hotel was how much was the service charge.
  12. I guess that guys who lt them do anything they want inspire respect to your whole family...

Yes, I am a control freak on purpose and only in developing countries where people know nothing.

And in case you really want to know the story is the same if I pay or not, they do what I want, because this is the way it has always been.

If they are so proud as you seem to be, next time they do not come if they want ! But you guessed, they always join and obey, I must be a so special person, or maybe they are less smart and beautiful than some people here and understand that when someone else is smart they have to listen to him !

    Do you have a brother?

  13. That translates as: Not my concern or I do not know much more than what I care to know while I really do not care to learn or make any effort to know or learn anything about what you want or what you are asking for....so they say: My Mee.

Just joking in part but usually if they do not know they simply say : My Mee

When Thai People are asked about something if they do not say: My Mee, then Thai people are also well known for commonly saying:

My Lou ( I Do Not Know)

My Sap ( No Idea )

My Die ( Can Not )

My Ow ( Do Not Want )

My Bi ( Do Not Want to Go )

    My Coy ( Never )

    My Kow-Jai ( I Do Not Understand )

My Lroo Rlueng ( I Do Not Understand the Story Concerning This Conversation )

My Coy Hen ( I Never See )

My Doo or My Mong ( Did Not Look )

    My Sohn-Jai ( I Am Not Interested )

My Lrou-Jack ( I Do Not Know About That: "Thing" or "Place" or "Person" )

My Chop ( I Do Not Like )

My Yom ( I Do Not Accept )

My Coy Hen ( I Never See )

My Tum ( Will Not Do )

My Set ( Not Finished Yet )

    My Hen Doo-Way ( I Do Not Agree )

My Jai ( I Will Not Pay The Money )

My Lrack Koon ( I Do Not Love You )

My Mee Ngun ( I Do Not Have Money )

My Jai Ngun ( Will Not Pay The Money )

    My Ah-Rloy ( Not Good Tasting )

My Kin ( Will Not Eat )

My Dee ( Not Good )

My Jap ( Do Not Touch )

    And there is more..

You will hear a whole lot of "My" this and "My" that..... all the time ....so better get used to it.

    Cheers

Ooooh you know a lot of Thai.

    Then there's

    Mai cheu

    Mai tahm

    Mai yahk

    Mai Lak

    Mai Ow

    Mai Bawk

    Mai Yoo

    Mai Didt Tdaw

    Mai Fang

Plus My Sharona. Actually pronounced M-M-M My Sharona.

  14. I have lived here in 8 years now, always lived at the very same address,, Hasve a yellow book since 7 years back.. NEVER had an issue with neither the immigration nor the form TM28 or TM30.. NEVER,,,

Belong to Khon Kaen immigration.. What is the rules here? Anybody? Joe?

    Glegolo

I think KK is interpreting the rule correctly and not wanting a report unless you change address. Having a yellow house book does not change the reporting requirements.
I extended my stay at KK immigration last month and handed over a TM30 and as Joe posted this was exactly what was explained to me by the officer when I asked when I had to provide a new TM30
  15. My 19 year old niece has previously traveled to the UK twice with me, my wife and daughter when she was younger. She wants to go back this year with her friend who is 20 for a short trip but even though she's 19 as she's still under the Age of Majority in Thailand does she have to get permission from her parents etc to travel abroad?

    Many thanks for any info.

  16. I'm pretty laid back but the only time I got a bit stroppy about " Mai mee" was in the Khon Kaen branch of Sizzler. We'd ordered our food and my wife and daughter's had been served with no sign of mine. Gave it a few more minutes and asked where my grub was. "Mai mee" was the reply. And when were you going to let me know this rather pertinent fact? When Halley's Comet comes round again?

  17. As Joe said. I recently did my marriage extension in Khon Kaen and never having completed a TM30 in 18 years took one this time just in case. While I was sitting outside the immigration office I overheard an officer telling the Thai " helper" of a French guy next to me that they required a TM30 and there was an 800 baht fine for private citizens and a 10000 baht fine for hotels etc if they didn't show one. Resigning myself to a fine I went through the extension process and at the end the officer asked if I had a TM30. I handed it over and got a slip no mention of a fine. I was a bit concerned because my wife had dated I'd been currently residing at our place since 2014 which was when we returned from our last trip outside Thailand and I thought the officer might question why we hadn't reported upon my return but no mention was made. I asked the officer if I had to fill out a new form every time I returned to our house after staying away. She said no.

  18. I'm 6ft. I'm going to bring some clothes back with me. And stuff for the gym, water bottles, a new pair of training shoes. All of which seem very expensive here.

I always stock up on sports stuff as well. Last time picked up a pair of Nike from JD Sports back in the UK on a clearance sale for the equivalent of Thb 1000 which were going for Thb 3500 in Bangkok and a pair of Karrimor hikers for Thb1000 plus a load of plain Nike t shirts on sale 3 for a tenner (just over 500 baht).
  19. Go up to a motorcycle taxi station with your tadger out, pat one of the lads on the arse calling him a "cheeky boy", kick one of the bikes over and bitch or pimp slap the roughest looking geezer there. Life will immediately become more interesting.... and painful.
