I don't think that they will get away with that this time IMHO.
The yellow shirts and the rabid royalists are dying off and the youth are replacing them, and they don't want the military at all.
There are far more of them than there are of the military and the group that led the coup last time are no longer as powerful as they were.
may hold a balance of power as they are independent of the Thai military
King's Guard units
The Royal Guards are today composed of 87 formations (formerly 94 battalions or equivalents), mostly found in the Royal Thai Army.It depends on who actually controls them and what that person wants to do. That person is not as popular as his father, and I think a lot will depend on if, and how much, he is willing to compromise.
Remind us. Is there any evidence of him showing some modesty and ability to compromise? Best hope is when he places his orders there will be no one willing to accept them.
Will a negative election result be tolerated?

Unless they seize power in a coup.
The usual quandary.......must you obey bad laws? And rigged constitutions?

Are they now anti Thaksin?
Thailand needs a decent alternative to Thaksin and Prayut.
I think they offered no support for Thaksin before. They wanted the real change you seem to want too. But real life, coalitions (with who would be best?), and media pushing them to take positions they would rather not take yet lead you to a black/white opinion.
They remain the decent alternative to Thaksin and Prayuth. With enough of our support.

I have not been here long enough during Thaksin's time as PM to know a lot about him, but I have seen the lies and corruption, Uturns and flip flops from the present unelected caretaker PM to know I do not want any soldiers anywhere near a government.
I think of the country I first came to live in about 16 years ago, and compare it with now.
Just no more soldiers please.
The songtheaws are driving around every day now asking for votes. I look at the picture on the side and if it is an older bloke wearing a uniform with lots of medals I know this is not the one.

He is opposed to the Chidchobs with whom he's had a running feud for decades.
He also craves attention.
Like most things here these feuds are more about family, clan, which part of China your ancestors came from, failed business dealings....
More on the ball than most of the comments here. He is no angel. but he knows a lot of bad guys who should be brought down and is willing to name some of them.
During a period of elections in a 'democratic' country the courts have no place in telling a citizen he is not permitted to air his beliefs about the Bhumjaithai Party's support of Cannabis.

And how many years in jail will he get for running away for maybe 10 years?
I suggest for each day that he avoided jail he should have to serve at least two days in jail.
Otherwise, if there are no consequences, everybody will run away. That can't be right.
What do you suggest for the people who so obviously allowed him to escape Thailand and avoid the trials that were coming?

If Xi ever thinks that what is good for Putin is OK for China too and turns against him and invades to regain the Greater China that has been lost to a history of Russian aggression it could get interesting;Wikipedia"What Chinese territory was lost to Russia?Starting with the Treaty of Aigun in 1858 and the Treaty of Peking in 1860, the Sino–Russian border was realigned in Russia's favour along the Amur and Ussuri rivers. As a result, China lost the region now known as Outer Manchuria (an area of more than 1 million km2) and access to the Sea of Japan."There is an exhausting amount of material to try to understand. but China's game of cards leaves them many options.

Drugs?
Women?
Perhaps soliciting for new Thailand Elite members? ????
We all believe they are up to no good and they are very visible.
The question for me is why are they not visible to the authorities?
A blind eye is being turned for whose benefit?
if Chuwit has a spare couple of hours......

World's largest parliament building planned costing 23 billion baht (Wikipedia) for members who can hardly fill an office party.
If there is no intention to provide democracy don't make the already mostly poor demos pay for you to pretend it matters.

AFAIK you are either dismissed from government service, or you are not dismissed?
A surname like 'Na Ayutya' has often been seen as meaning an untouchable. Who has he upset? Tell me if I am wrong.
Some progress?

Not your problem. If they can't abide by the rules, of which I do, then it's bye bye.
If abiding by the rules becomes required large numbers of the administration will also be saying bye bye.

Just heard another Family member has heart issues as well. One wonders if the huge announcement you indicate the possibility of will bring about the wearing of black clothing. Let's hope not.
Many would be preparing the fireworks rather than the black clothing.

Khaosan ha s cancelled countdown, but the rest activities are going on. All pubs, clubs, restaurants are opened and each one will have countdown, music and all night parties.
If central would cancel, they will lose their 500mln investment and not any music concerts, after midnight party will take place there. They would have to dismantle music stage and cordon off an area, to prevent party goers from polluting their grounds.
Tourists are cancelling rooms and activities now because they are scared they will lose their payments, if they delay and try to cancel at the last moment.
There is also a possibility, that their bookings might be cancelled by hotels, restaurants etc without refunds or only partia refund.
So they prefer make already now some alternatives, rather in their locations and communities.
There are secret orders from the ministry of education and earlier from the ministry of justice, to cancel new year celebrations. Some schools, including the governmental ones, had already cancelled xmass parties, that yet before ministry order and even they are not connected with new year celebrations.
"The Education Ministry issued a "most urgent" directive on Thursday for all its offices nationwide to cancel New Year parties out of respect for HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha who remain unconscious at Chulalongkorn Hospital"
"Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said Tuesday there is "yet" a request by the government for the private sector and the general public to refrain from having festive holiday parties. The remark came after the Office of the Court of Justice decided to cancel new year parties and asked its officials to make merit for HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha who remain unconscious and hospitalised."
stable condition......yes, the same since Wednesday. No celebrations anytime soon.

Agree 100%, or else they should button it. Never understood the abject hatred for the man and yet people are happy to have things as they are; all votes stolen. Nowt as queer as folk.
Having Thanatorn running things would certainly be the best thing for Thailand, but would upset many. He’s too straight.
They should be upset. Should be confronted. Should disappear. Should appear only in history books as the people whose selfishness imoverished Thai lives for generations.

The only thing that will fix this are automated guardrails that lower for pedestrians, while tire spikes emerge simultaneously from the road.
Before going to this expense send police out for the day to use these crossings and punish the drivers who have nearly killed them.

simple question for a Yes or No answer
Has Prayut been in charge since 2014? the answer is Yes, move on and send him back to the baracks
I think he is also not really permitted there since his house is only for army personnel.
Somehow a judgement went against this, and let him stay. A period of following the law would be very welcome.
Prayut confident of making a comeback, but prepared “to go home”

Yes. The 1997 Constitution. And apologies from Pheu Thai for the mistakes made and how it was abused. And that Thaksin acknowledges he should take a back seat as the country tries to repair the damage done since.
